Looking For Replacement Axle For 1998 Sundowner Cattle Trailer
Updated 08/05/2025 | Published 07/25/2025 >
Question:
I have a sundowner cattle trailer that was mfgd 12 of 1998. The serial is 13SAX3225X1AA2306. I need a replacement front axle. Rear axle is fine. The sn on the axle tag is unreadable. All I can tell is that it is a dexter axle. The GVWR on the trailer tag is 6899. GAWR front and rear is 2760. Do you have any way to cross reference the SN to the appropriate axle?

Hello Randy, thanks for reaching out. We may have an axle that will work for you, but there is no universal VIN database for trailers, so no way to look that up to know what you need. Only the manufacturer of the trailer can do that.
The best way to determine the correct axle will be for you to measure. Axles are measured across from hub face to hub face. Also measure the distance between the spring seats, assuming it is a round tube leaf spring axle. Based on the GVWR I am guessing you have two 3,500 lb rated axles. You could measure the axle tube diameter also.
Reply on this page with that info and I am happy to look into it and see if we have anything.

Jesse - I have a little more info for the axle above. It has a serial number of SN D3276315. Says it is a Dexter P-15 Model SLR. Do you have any contacts at Dexter that could help us translate to a current SN? Thanks.
