  • Troubleshooting Brake Actuating Arm Breaking on a Trailer Brake Assembly
First thing I would do is pull off the hub and inspect the inside surface where the brake magnet rides. If it isn't completely smooth it could be grabbing the magnet and breaking it. Most likely you would have needed to replace the hub after the first time the magnet broke. Are you sure you are using the correct orientated assembly? Brake assemblies are sold in right hand and left hand versions. The actuating arm of the assembly should be pointing towards the front of the trailer. In...

Yes, we do Dave! To replace just the brake shoes on the Dexter Electric Trailer Brakes Left/Right Hand Assemblies item # K23-472-473-00, you'll want the 10" x 1-1/2" Electric Brake Shoe/Lining One Wheel item # bp04-065. These are sold individually so you'll need two sets to do both brakes. What kind of trailer do you have?

  • How to Pick Out Replacement Hub Assembly for 1988 Prowler Lynx 15f
In order to pick out the correct hub assembly for a trailer you are going to need know a few key pieces of information. The first thing you will need to know is the bolt pattern of your hubs. This is so you get a hub that is compatible with your wheels. Next thing you will need to know is what spindle you have on your trailer. In order to do that you can either get the inner and outer bearing numbers from a hub or use a dial or digital caliper to get exact measurements of the spindle....

  • Guides to Use for Adding Brakes to a Trailer
First thing we need to do is verify for sure what axles/spindles your trailer has so that we can pick out the correct hub/drums that will fit them and then go from there to pick out the rest of the brake parts needed. I attached a couple help article links that are guides for your exact situation of adding brakes to a trailer. These will guide you through the entire process of what's needed to install brakes on your trailer.

In order to swap your surge brakes to electric brakes you're going to need to first swap out the actuator with the Hydrastar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Drum Brakes # HBA-10. The next thing you'll need is new brake assemblies, if your drums are in good shape you can leave those on there but you're going to need brake kits for all four of your wheels using # 23-26 for the left side and # 23-27 for the right side. Next, you're going to need a brake controller. I personally like...

  • How to Tell Left and Right Side of a New Dexter Axle without Taking Off the Hubs or Brakes
If you look at the backs of the brake assemblies there should be a hole where the magnet wires come out and a little opaque plastic strap. So if you are looking at the back of the assembly and those items are on the left then it is the left side (drivers side). If on the right then it is the right side (passengers side). Or if you are unsure look for the Dexter stamp on the back of the brake assembly. There should be a part number there and I could look that up and tell you if it is a...

It can definitely be difficult in some circumstances, but if you were trying to see how it is done this video does a really good job at showing it (with the drum/hub assembly removed). When it comes to replacing your hubs, based off some previous answers it looks like the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 5,200-lb Axles - 6 on 5-1/2 Item # 8-201-5UC3 could be the right replacement for you, but you will want to confirm which bearings are in your existing hubs. • Picking Out Trailer Brake Assemblies that Have Bolt Pattern 2-7/8 inch by 2-7/8 inch
The 2-7/8 inch square bolt pattern that you need is a very common bolt pattern for 4-bolt brake assemblies that are 10 inch in diameter. The # 23-454 that you referenced uses a smaller bolt pattern at 2-13/16 inch by 2-13/16 inch which was common for brake assemblies made before 2009. The # K23-478-00 that you also referenced does not use a square bolt pattern at all so what you'd really be in need of is # 23-27 for the right hand side and # 23-26 for the left hand side.

  • Replacing Trailer Brake Assemblies for Axle with Dexter 36-22 Assemblies
We do not have replacement shoes for the brake pads you sent in a picture of. But judging by it's overall appearance it's going to be way easier and better for you in the long run to replace those assemblies as they have seen better days. It's also typically about the same price to just replace the entire assembly and won't be quite as difficult either. For that you can use the brake assembly set part # AKEBRK-7-SA and you'll have an assembly for both sides of the axle.
