Expert Answers about Putco

  • Troubleshooting LED Tail Light Bulbs Flickering when Vehicle Lights are Turned Off
  • The flicker you are referring to with LED bulbs is known as hyper flashing. This occurs because the LED bulbs require so much less power than incandescent bulbs. So when your lights are on, the power to the bulbs is reduced due to the draw on the headlights and running lights, but when they are turned off the power is too great for proper function without adding load resistors. I recommend adding the Putco LED Light Bulb Load-Resistors - Aluminum - Qty 2 # P230004A-2 to your wiring for...

  • What is the Difference Between Putco 9006 and 9006XS Headlight Bulbs
  • The difference between the 9006 and the 9006xs bulbs is the type of base the light has. A 9006 size bulb will have a 90 degree angle base, like part # P239006NB, while a 9006xs bulb will have a straight base to plug into, like part # P239006XDW. I am including a picture that will show the difference in the two bulbs. A 9006 bulb and a 9006XS bulb will fit different vehicles, so you will need to check your owners manual or your current bulb size for the correct bulb that you will need....

  • Are Load Resistors Needed for LED Backup and Brake/Tail Lights
  • When changing from incandescent or halogen type bulbs to LEDs, load resistors are required. For the blinker circuits you can use load-resistors like the Putco LED Light Bulb Load-Resistors # P230004A-2 to prevent hyperflashing of the blinkers. This kit includes two resistors and connectors for installing a pair of bulbs as turn signal lamps. Check out the installation instructions I have attached for part # P230004A-2. I have also included a link to our exterior LED automobile lights...

  • Recommended H1 Headlight Bulb for a Projector Housing
  • Generally speaking, LED bulbs do not work well in a projector housing. This has to do with the direction the bulbs project the light. LED bulbs are more or less designed to be used in a reflective headlight housing. Therefore, the Silver-Lux Headlight Bulbs part # P3000H1 will be a good fit for your high-beam headlight but not for your low-beam headlights.

  • Load Resistors Needed When Installing Aftermarket LED Bulbs In GMC Sierra To Prevent Hyperflashing
  • Per Putco, you would need 1 load resistor inline with the wiring harness feeding LED bulb for a turn signal. I believe your Sierra has two bulbs per side, one for the running lamp, one for the brake/turn signal. You only need to install Load Resistors on the circuits feeding the turn signals. I recommend the Putco # P230004A-2 resistors. Their finned aluminum body will be very effective at shedding excess heat. I have provided a diagram showing how the resistors should be wired.

  • Why Do LED Taillights on Vehicle Cause "Bulb Burned Out" Message on Dash
  • When you replace incandescent bulbs on a vehicle's turn signal circuit with LEDs the blinker circuit doesn't want to work right. This is due to the amperage rating being too low on the LEDs and thermal flasher units needing to see a specific amperage rating to work right. Now with some vehicles if the circuit doesn't see a specific amperage load on the circuit it thinks the bulb has burned out. The LEDs will cause this. A load resistor puts that same amperage back on the circuit so that...

  • How Do I Install Load Resistors for the LED Lights on my 2007 Dodge 3500 Flatbed
  • You will wire a load resistor into the wiring of each light socket that has an LED bulb and flashes. So basically you will need to wire a load resistor into any bulb that blinks or has a dual intensity feature that lights up when the brakes, blinkers, or emergency flashers are operated. To do this correctly, you will need to wire the load resistor on the positive wire and then either ground it to the ground wire of the bulb, or to a good frame ground. You will need to do this for all...

  • How To Replace Day Time Running Lights on 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe
  • I checked on how to change the daytime running light bulbs on your 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe. The removal of the headlamp assembly is as follows. 1. Remove the six bolts on top of the grill. 2. Remove the two (7mm) screws, three push pins, and two pop style pins in the wheel well. 3. Pull the wheel well lining towards you and remove the two (10mm) bolts that go upwards into the fender, this will release the bumper mounting bracket. 4. Remove the three (10mm) bolts holding the headlamp...

  • How Do You Replace Low Beam Lights on 2004 Mazda 6
  • I can relate to your problem, my car uses the same type of bulb and there is also very little room to get your hand in to change the headlight bulb. I did some research and found that other Mazda 6 owners run into the same problems. I found that to provide additional room there are a few things you can unbolt or remove temporarily. Before you begin, it is best to disconnect your negative battery terminal. Also, when replacing the bulbs, you will want to make sure to wear gloves as...

  • Availability of a 921 LED Bulb that is Brighter than a 921 Incandescent Bulb
  • In the case of the 921 bulb style, you will not necessarily get a brighter light with an LED model like the Putco 921 LED Bulbs, # P340921W-360, that you mentioned. In my opinion the light from this light is whiter than the light from and incandescent bulb like the replacement 921 bulb, # 30-90-021, which has a more yellow tone to it. I feel that the incandescent bulb provides more light for working on close tasks and the LED light provides better overall light coverage. At this time...

  • Power Consumption Comparison Between 921 LED Bulb and a 921 Incandescent Bulb
  • LED bulbs in general draw a much smaller percentage of power than incandescent bulbs so the Putco LED Bulb, # P340921W-360, will draw less power than the incandescent bulb, # 30-90-021. I do not have the specific amperage rating for each of these bulbs, but I can tell you that the typical 921 incandescent bulb draws approximately 1.4 amps and the typical 921 LED bulb draws only .4 amps. That should give you an idea of how they compare to each other.

  • Can a 55W H7 Halogen Bulb be Replaced With a 100W H7 Halogen Bulb
  • Generally speaking no, a 55 watt bulb can not be replaced with a 100 watt bulb as the wattage is almost double and could cause serious damage to the vehicle's electrical circuit. However, if the socket that the lightbulb will be plugged into is rated for 100 watts then yes you can use an H7 100 watt halogen bulb on your 2007 Nissan Qashqai. For a H7 55 watt halogen bulb I recommend using the Putco PURE High-Performance H7 Halogen Headlight Bulbs part # P230007MW and for a H7 100 watt...

  • Troubleshooting LED Trailer Lights that Flicker When Vehicle is Off
  • What you are experiencing is due to the fact that LED taillights only require a very small amount of amperage to illuminate. A tiny amount can cause them to illuminate. Trailer wring for the most part goes totally dead when the vehicle is off. But there can be small amounts of voltage that would normally not get noticed if the trailer had incandescent bulbs. It really isn't a problem unless it bothers you. The flickering wouldn't be enough to drain your battery. But if you want it to...

  • How to Install LED Light Bulb Load Resistor for Use with Trailer with LED Lighting
  • The Putco LED Light Bulb Aluminum Load-Resistor Kit # P230004A wires in parallel with each trailer lighting circuit. For a trailer with LED lighting (that does not present the same electrical load as an incandescent type bulb) you will wire one resistor inline with each circuit, so for a typical 4-pole installation you'll need three, for left turn/stop, right turn/stop and running light circuits. The kit includes quick-splice connectors.

  • Is Load Resistor Required for Converting 3rd Brake Light to LED Bulb
  • Load resistors can be required for LED lights when the vehicle wiring is unable to recognize the light's presence due to its very low power draw. Standard incandescent bulb lights draw more power and so they are more easily "seen" by the wiring harness. Load resistors like # P230004A-2 drain away some power and so they mimic the characteristics of incandescent lights. You can try a load resistor to see if it corrects the blown fuse for your IOD display but usually it is only blinking...

  • My 2017 Ford F-150 Reads "Trailer Module Fault” & “Turn Signal Faults” & Trailer Lights Don’t Work
  • According to what you told me, since it's not the LED lights, you may want to re-check the ground on the vehicle side. Since you are not getting the proper signals to the trailer lights then you will want to start off by making sure your vehicle end connectors where the factory harness plugs in do not have any corrosion on them. make sure sure they are clean and the pins are not bent. Yes, this applies on new trucks. If they look good then you will want to check the wiring on your vehicle...

  • Replacement 1157 LED Bulbs for a Travel Trailer
  • First, what a lot of people do not know about LED lights is that if you are using them behind a red lens then the LED bulb needs to be red as well. Otherwise you will end up with a dim pink light when using white LEDs. LED bulb # P241157R-360 is a pair of red LEDs so they would work well behind a red lens. When used as stop, tail, turn bulbs behind a red lens they are DOT compliant.

  • Turn Signals Hyperflashing on a 2011 GMC Sierra Denali 3500HD
  • As you probably know, adding LED lights can cause a hyperflash problem with turn signals. You would need to add a load resistor like # P230004A to every light that was changed to LED. You have to make sure that the load resistors are installed correctly. One wire will connect to the power wire going to the bulb. The other wire you will ground to the truck frame or grounding point. I have included a picture that shows how it should install.

  • Using H4 Headlight Bulbs with 3 Prongs on 1964 Cadillac with 2 Prong Receptacle
  • My dad used to have a 1967 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. I have been inside and out of the car helping him work on it. I think your best option is to use wiring harness # P239003HD. It has a 3-prong receptacle and the wiring for the bulb. Better yet you could use # P230004HW which includes the heavier wire and receptacles along with relays to protect the old wiring on your Caddy.

  • Why does the # P230004A Load Resistor to Prevent Hyper Flash Turn Signal Get So Hot
  • The Putco LED Light Bulb Load-Resistor Kit - Aluminum, item # P230004A, is designed to get hot. It can be explained like a dam. The result of a dam holding back water is pressure, so the dam has to be built to withstand that pressure. The load resistor is holding back power and the result of holding that power back so it does not get to the LED lights is heat. The load resistor is built to dissipate the heat caused by holding back the power and aluminum transfers heat to the air around...

  • Fix Potential Hyper Flashing On 2017 Land Rover Discovery
  • I understand your concern that some newer vehicles have to recognize that a trailer is plugged into the connector in order for the towing functions to activate. When a trailer has LED lights the power draw is very low, but that's one advantage of LED lights. However since the power draw is so low the vehicle doesn't recognize the trailer and therefore doesn't turn on the towing features. Another cause could be that the 2017 Land Rover Discovery recognizes the lights being on the circuit...
