Expert Answers about CE Smith

  • How to Attach Carpet to Boat Trailer Bunk Boards
  • I recommend attaching the carpet to your boards using staples. If you wrap the carpet around the board and only staple the carpet on the sides or back of the board, the staples will not scratch the hull of your boat.

  • Typical Trailer Lug Nut Diameter and Thread Pitch
  • Trailer wheel lug nuts that are 1/2-inch inside diameter typically have a 20-TPI thread pitch (20 threads per inch). Most lug nuts also use a 60-degree-coned profile like # CE11051, but a 90-degree like # STN569 is also available for 9/16-inch studs. All lug nuts we offer are displayed on the linked page. I also linked our main page for all wheel accessory items.

  • How to Install the CE Smith Wobble Roller Retainer Ring # CE10981
  • Basically, you put the open end around the shaft on each end of the roller then use some pliers to clamp it closed so it is tight to the shaft. This allows the roller to roll but stay in position. I made a video showing what this would look like for you.

  • Replacement Trailer Bunk Brackets for a Escort Boat Trailer
  • The CE Smith Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assembly # CE10000G that you referenced would work well to replace the bunk brackets on your boat trailer. You would be able to set the angle for the bunks that you would like with the # CE10000G also. I attached a picture that shows that you can use different angles.

  • 10 Foot Long Carpeted Bunk Boards for Boat Trailer
  • I can certainly understand not wanting to have to connect 2 five-foot carpeted bunk rails like # CE27820 to get the 10 foot bunks you need. We don't offer them in the 10' length because the shipping costs would be more expensive than the bunks themselves. If you're a DIY kind of person, you can pretty easily make your own bunk boards using 2" x 4" or 2" x 6" pressure-treated lumber and CE Smith Marine Grade Carpeting like # CE11350. Most hardware stores will cut the boards to the length...

  • How to Attach CE Smith Bolster and Swivel Mounting Brackets for Bunk Boards # CE10001G-4
  • The CE Smith Galvanized Bolster and Swivel Mounting Brackets for Bunk Boards # CE10001G-4 come with nuts and bolts to attach the swivel brackets to the bolster brackets, but you will need to supply either lag bolts or other through bolt hardware to attach these assemblies to the wooden bunks on your boat trailer and the trailer frame. Either type of hardware is suitable and you can determine which is best, and what specific length you need, based on the construction of your particular...

  • V Mounting Brackets to Convert Conventional Trailer into Pontoon Boat Trailer
  • The V mounting brackets that you could use to convert your conventional trailer to a pontoon boat trailer are the CE Smith V-Wing Bolster Bracket, # CE26244G. When it comes to mounting hardware for these brackets, I recommend using a screw and washer like our 3/8 Inch Stainless Steel Hex Lag Screw, # FA74521, and Stainless Steel Washer, # FA0152661. I have attached a link to our U-bolts for boat trailers. Since the mounting slot on the V bracket would typically run parallel with...

  • Recommended Staple Size for Bunk Board Carpet
  • We typically try to use 1/2 inch stainless steel staples when we install the CE Smith Deluxe Marine-Grade Carpeting, # CE11372, but 3/8 inch staples will work too. I would not go much shorter than the 3/8 inch staples because you don't want them to work their way out over time. I strongly recommend using stainless steel staples if possible. They will last much longer because they provide the best rust resistance.

  • Choosing Boat Trailer Bunks versus Guide-Ons for Trailering in Rough Waters
  • Considering the rough water where you boat, I suggest you consider carpeted bunks or roller bunks. Bunks will do a better job than guide-ons at actually controlling the boat's motion while you're getting it up on the trailer. Guide-ons are really intended to provide a visual cue, but not really for actually controlling the boat's movement as it is trailered. As soon as the hull makes contact with the bunks it will begin to stabilize the craft's movement. I have linked our main pages...

  • Recommended Pontoon Boat Guide-Ons for Pontoon Boat Trailer
  • The pontoon trailer guide-ons only come in a set of 2 as that is all that is needed, although you can add more if you believe that it is necessary. That all just depends on how confident you are about staying on the right track once you have started guiding your pontoon onto your boat trailer. You will want to position them on your boat trailer so that they span the open space on the underside of your pontoon boat (see attached picture). There are 2 different style of guides that you...

  • Spare Tire Cover to Fit 215/70R16 Size Spare Tire
  • The overall diameter of a 215/70R16 size tire is just under 28-inches (27.8 to be exact). For a tire of this size I suggest one of the black spare tire covers that are shown on the link provided for you. Classic Accessories # 052963753479 is a vinyl cover with an elastic back hem. Rampage # RA772901 is a fabric cover of material similar to a Jeep top that has an adjustment cord for a snug fit. Either of these will be a better fit for your 16-inch wheels than the item you referenced,...

  • Weight Capacity And Parts Needed For Modifying Boat Trailer For 26 Ft Regal Commodore
  • I spoke with my contact at CE Smith, and they said the Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assembly for Boat Trailers, part # CE10000G, do not bear the weight of the boat. The U-bolt that attaches the brackets to the trailer frame support the weight of the boat. There should be a bracket attached to each cross member of the trailer frame. If you are buying several brackets, I would recommend part # CE10000G-4. This is a set of 4 of the 9 inch adjustable brackets. If you need longer adjustable...

  • Converting Boat Trailer from Roller Bunks to Carpeted Bunks
  • All of the boat trailer bolster brackets we carry such as # CE10001G-4 are strong enough for general use so they do not carry specific weight ratings. These particular brackets are beefy 11-gauge galvanized steel. For bunks we offer carpeted lengths up to 6-feet. For your 20-foot boat four 5-foot bunks # CE27820 should do the trick. Keep in mind that if the trailer currently has roller bunks like # DL21741 switching to carpeted bunks will increase the drag/load on the trailer winch....

  • Replacement Trailer Fenders for Car Tow Dolly Trailer with 14 Inch Wheels
  • No worries. I have seen fenders in much worse shape. It looks like the best option is going to be the fenders that you have referenced # CE17900G. I know that this fender does not have mounting holes. But that is because they are a universal fit item and you will need to provide your own hardware for mounting. We do have some mounting brackets you can use, # CE26098G-2. I have also included a link to all of the fenders that we carry that fit 14 inch wheels. Fenders, unless otherwise...

This axle has a distance of 57-1/2 inches from hub face to hub face and 46-1/2 inches from spring center to spring center. These measurements are awfully close to what you are needing, so I recommend double checking your trailer to see if this will fit. This axle includes idler hubs with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern along with all the necessary bearings, races,...

  • Roller Bunks For Shorelander Boat Trailer And Lund Fury 1600 Aluminum Boat
  • You have a couple of options for rollers on your Shorelander trailer. If you want to completely cover the 7 foot bunks you currently have, you can attach a 4 ft roller like part # CE27700, and cut another to cover the 7 ft board. If you do mount the roller bunks to the boards you currently have you will want to make sure your rollers for the bow are adjusted at the proper height to offer support for the boat when loaded. I have attached a link to our boat trailer parts. Another option...

  • Availability of 9-1/2 Foot Carpeted Bunk Boards for Boat Trailer
  • No worries, you can easily construct some bunks yourself. Go to your local lumberyard and get some treated yellow pine 2x4x10 boards. You can then purchase some of the marine-grade carpet we offer, like part # CE11372. You'll need one roll per bunk, which means you'll have some scrap left over, but if you're anything like me you'll find a use for the scrap. You can use carpet adhesive to attach the carpet to the bunks, but two years ago when I re-did the bunks on my PWC trailer I...

  • Spare Tire Carrier Recommendation for 5 on 5 Bolt Pattern
  • Depending on the configuration and mounting options on your trailer you may be able to use a spare tire carrier like the Fulton Economy Spare Tire Carrier, part # FETCSTL0701. When used with a spare tire with a 5 on 5 bolt pattern the bracket can be bent to fit. This option does not offer any offset, but will work for 5 on 5. With this set up you will get the carrier and lock in one. I went out to the warehouse and took a measurement of this part for you (see photo at right) to help...

  • What Size Trailer Guides are Recommended for a 22 Foot Sea Ray?
  • For your 22-foot Sea Ray, I suggest using the 60-inch tall CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons, # CE27640. Posts of this height are going to remain visible while your trailer is partially submerged, making it easier to guide your boat. These guide-ons use white PVC pipes which slide over the steel posts for enhanced visibility in the water and are installed with U-bolts so you can avoid drilling. I've attached a link to a video review of this product for you to take a look at.
