Expert Answers about CE Smith

  • How to Attach Carpet to Boat Trailer Bunk Boards
  • I recommend attaching the carpet to your boards using staples. If you wrap the carpet around the board and only staple the carpet on the sides or back of the board, the staples will not scratch the hull of your boat.

  • Replacement Trailer Bunk Brackets for a Escort Boat Trailer
  • The CE Smith Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assembly # CE10000G that you referenced would work well to replace the bunk brackets on your boat trailer. You would be able to set the angle for the bunks that you would like with the # CE10000G also. I attached a picture that shows that you can use different angles.

  • Recommended Replacement Carpeting For Boat Trailer Bunks 20 Ft Long
  • The marine-grade carpeting we offer for trailer bunks is available in three colors, Black, Blue, and Charcoal. The longest carpeting we offer is 18 feet and is part # CE11349. This is Black and is 18 inches wide. We also offer Charcoal, part # CE11372, which is 12 ft long and 11 inches wide. You would need two for each bunk and overlap the seam in order to cover the 20 feet and ends you mentioned. For 12 ft Black you would order part # CE11330 and for Blue the part number is...

  • Replacement Carpeted Bunks For Boat Trailer Recommendation
  • We offer both carpet that you can use to replace your worn carpet on your bunks for your trailer, and we also carry replacement carpeted bunks for your trailer. The carpeted bunks we offer come in varied lengths. If you need 6 ft bunks, I recommend part # CE27840. These come in a set of 2, and is wrapped with marine-grade black carpeting. For 5 ft bunks, you would need part # CE27820, for 4 ft bunks, part # CE27810, and for 3 ft bunks you would need part # CE27800. If you decide...

  • Finding Replacement Axle For Jet Ski Trailer
  • The closest standard axle we have available to the dimensions that you mentioned is the CE Smith Trailer Axle Beam # CE33201GA. This galvanized trailer axle has a spring center measurement of 46-1/2 inches and a hub face measurement of 57-1/2 inches. It has an overall length of 62 inches. Since we do not have a standard axle that meets the dimensions you are looking for, another option is an Axle-Less system like the Timbren Trailer Suspension System # A12WS545. This system will provide...

  • How to Install the CE Smith Wobble Roller Retainer Ring # CE10981
  • Basically, you put the open end around the shaft on each end of the roller then use some pliers to clamp it closed so it is tight to the shaft. This allows the roller to roll but stay in position. I made a video showing what this would look like for you.

  • Recommended Staple Size for Bunk Board Carpet
  • We typically try to use 1/2 inch stainless steel staples when we install the CE Smith Deluxe Marine-Grade Carpeting, # CE11372, but 3/8 inch staples will work too. I would not go much shorter than the 3/8 inch staples because you don't want them to work their way out over time. I strongly recommend using stainless steel staples if possible. They will last much longer because they provide the best rust resistance.

  • Typical Trailer Lug Nut Diameter and Thread Pitch
  • Trailer wheel lug nuts that are 1/2-inch inside diameter typically have a 20-TPI thread pitch (20 threads per inch). Most lug nuts also use a 60-degree-coned profile like # CE11051, but a 90-degree like # STN569 is also available for 9/16-inch studs. All lug nuts we offer are displayed on the linked page. I also linked our main page for all wheel accessory items.

  • Guide-Ons for a Pontoon Boat and Trailer
  • We have a couple of great options for pontoon boat guide-ons. First, if you want to go with a roller-style we have # CE27672. The rubber rollers are designed so that they won't scratch the boat. If you like the bunk style we have # CE27671. The bunks on this set will have a bit more surface area than the rollers but eventually would will need to replace the carpet on the bunks. On pontoon boats the guides are supposed to mount more in the center of the trailer so that pontoons will...

  • 10 Foot Long Carpeted Bunk Boards for Boat Trailer
  • I can certainly understand not wanting to have to connect 2 five-foot carpeted bunk rails like # CE27820 to get the 10 foot bunks you need. We don't offer them in the 10' length because the shipping costs would be more expensive than the bunks themselves. If you're a DIY kind of person, you can pretty easily make your own bunk boards using 2" x 4" or 2" x 6" pressure-treated lumber and CE Smith Marine Grade Carpeting like # CE11350. Most hardware stores will cut the boards to the length...

  • V Mounting Brackets to Convert Conventional Trailer into Pontoon Boat Trailer
  • The V mounting brackets that you could use to convert your conventional trailer to a pontoon boat trailer are the CE Smith V-Wing Bolster Bracket, # CE26244G. When it comes to mounting hardware for these brackets, I recommend using a screw and washer like our 3/8 Inch Stainless Steel Hex Lag Screw, # FA74521, and Stainless Steel Washer, # FA0152661. I have attached a link to our U-bolts for boat trailers. Since the mounting slot on the V bracket would typically run parallel with...

  • Bunk Board Carpet Recommendation for a 2x6 Bunk Board
  • We don't sell 2x6 bunk boards, but we do sell the carpet to allow you to wrap boards that are that size. For 2 x 6 bunks you'll want the 18-inch width carpet # CE11349 in order to have full wrap-around coverage without exposed wood.

  • Recommended Spare Tire Cover for 4.80 - 12 Size Tire
  • A tire of size 4.80 - 12 has an overall diameter of 20-1/2-inches and is approximately 4-inches wide. We offer several tire covers that will fit tires up to 21-inches in diameter and these can be seen by clicking on the linked page. We can offer you a choice of white, grey or black covers from CE Smith and Classic Accessories. If you prefer a basic black cover you can use # CE27410; for a white cover use # 052963751000. All have an elastic rear opening for a snug fit.

  • Converting Boat Trailer from Roller Bunks to Carpeted Bunks
  • All of the boat trailer bolster brackets we carry such as # CE10001G-4 are strong enough for general use so they do not carry specific weight ratings. These particular brackets are beefy 11-gauge galvanized steel. For bunks we offer carpeted lengths up to 6-feet. For your 20-foot boat four 5-foot bunks # CE27820 should do the trick. Keep in mind that if the trailer currently has roller bunks like # DL21741 switching to carpeted bunks will increase the drag/load on the trailer winch....

  • How to Attach CE Smith Bolster and Swivel Mounting Brackets for Bunk Boards # CE10001G-4
  • The CE Smith Galvanized Bolster and Swivel Mounting Brackets for Bunk Boards # CE10001G-4 come with nuts and bolts to attach the swivel brackets to the bolster brackets, but you will need to supply either lag bolts or other through bolt hardware to attach these assemblies to the wooden bunks on your boat trailer and the trailer frame. Either type of hardware is suitable and you can determine which is best, and what specific length you need, based on the construction of your particular...

  • How to Adjust CE Smith Bunk-Style Guide-Ons for Boat Trailers # CE27600 to Keep Boat Centered
  • The CE Smith Bunk-Style Guide-Ons for Boat Trailers # CE27600 can be adjusted for the best fit with a given craft. As you noted, you can adjust their side-to-side spacing to help keep your hull's strakes from contacting the center roller brackets. Also, the Bunk-Style Guide-Ons can be set at an angle, with the stern brackets a bit further apart than the bow brackets. This will create something of a V-shaped entry way for the boat that might help get and keep the keel in the roller. A...

  • Recommended Pontoon Boat Guide-Ons for Pontoon Boat Trailer
  • The pontoon trailer guide-ons only come in a set of 2 as that is all that is needed, although you can add more if you believe that it is necessary. That all just depends on how confident you are about staying on the right track once you have started guiding your pontoon onto your boat trailer. You will want to position them on your boat trailer so that they span the open space on the underside of your pontoon boat (see attached picture). There are 2 different style of guides that you...

  • Replacement Axle Assembly for Small Boat Trailer

This axle has a distance of 57-1/2 inches from hub face to hub face and 46-1/2 inches from spring center to spring center. These measurements are awfully close to what you are needing, so I recommend double checking your trailer to see if this will fit. This axle includes idler hubs with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern along with all the necessary bearings, races,...

These brackets are held to your trailer with u-bolts like the CE Smith U-Bolts - Galvanized - 3-13/16" Long x 3-1/16" Wide x 1/2" Diameter - Qty 4 # CE15283GA-4. • Replacement Carpeted Bunk Boards for a Boat Trailer with 10 Foot Long Bunk Boards
  • For bunk boards that are 10 feet long you could use a couple sets of the 5 foot long bunk boards, # CE27820. You would use one set of each 10 foot section needed. If brackets are needed you can use bolster bracket set # CE10000G-4. You will need at least 2 bracket per board.

  • Availability of 9-1/2 Foot Carpeted Bunk Boards for Boat Trailer
  • No worries, you can easily construct some bunks yourself. Go to your local lumberyard and get some treated yellow pine 2x4x10 boards. You can then purchase some of the marine-grade carpet we offer, like part # CE11372. You'll need one roll per bunk, which means you'll have some scrap left over, but if you're anything like me you'll find a use for the scrap. You can use carpet adhesive to attach the carpet to the bunks, but two years ago when I re-did the bunks on my PWC trailer I...

  • Mounting Boat Trailer Guide-Ons to Triton Boat Trailer With Fender Step Extends to Rear of Trailer
  • It sounds like you'll need to do some fab work in order to get the guide-ons to work. I believe your best bet would be to eliminate the u-bolts and have the brackets welded to the top or the underside of the frame member. If the fender step doesn't extend more than 13 inches from the side of the frame member, you can mount to the underside of the frame and the upright portion of the guide-on will clear the step. Otherwise, you'd need to attach to the top of the frame member.

The weight capacity for this axle is 1,800-lbs. The overall beam length is 62 inches. The hub comes with bearings, races, and seals included. We also carry part # CE33201GA. This is the same axle mentioned above but it does not have hubs included or the hub components. This axle has a 1-inch spindle.

  • Choosing Boat Trailer Bunks versus Guide-Ons for Trailering in Rough Waters
  • Considering the rough water where you boat, I suggest you consider carpeted bunks or roller bunks. Bunks will do a better job than guide-ons at actually controlling the boat's motion while you're getting it up on the trailer. Guide-ons are really intended to provide a visual cue, but not really for actually controlling the boat's movement as it is trailered. As soon as the hull makes contact with the bunks it will begin to stabilize the craft's movement. I have linked our main pages...

  • Spare Tire Carrier Recommendation for 5 on 5 Bolt Pattern
  • Depending on the configuration and mounting options on your trailer you may be able to use a spare tire carrier like the Fulton Economy Spare Tire Carrier, part # FETCSTL0701. When used with a spare tire with a 5 on 5 bolt pattern the bracket can be bent to fit. This option does not offer any offset, but will work for 5 on 5. With this set up you will get the carrier and lock in one. I went out to the warehouse and took a measurement of this part for you (see photo at right) to help...

  • How to Tell Difference Between 2,700 and 3,500 lb Axles
  • Typically the axle diameter is a good way to determine capacity but with the capacities being as close as your they could be the same diameter. A 3,500 lb axle should be 2-3/8 inches in diameter. You can also check the plate up near the coupler of the trailer that has the VIN. Typically axle capacities are listed there. You may even be able to find a similar rating on the axle itself depending on the brand of it. Aside from that it would come down to more info on the hubs. With the...

  • Replacement Trailer Fenders for Car Tow Dolly Trailer with 14 Inch Wheels

I know that this fender does not have mounting holes. But that is because they are a universal fit item and you will need to provide your own hardware for mounting. We do have some mounting brackets you can use, # CE26098G-2. I have also included a link to all of the fenders that we carry that fit 14 inch wheels. Fenders, unless otherwise...

These don't have a specific weight capacity but they are pretty strong. Normally we recommend the brackets part # CE26098G-2 for each fender installed like the picture I attached. You might install several of these brackets.
