Loading boats or pontoons feels straightforward with a trailer winch that pairs a polyester strap with a ratcheting hand crank. The strap is a clean alternative to wire cable, while the ratcheting action helps you take controlled pulls. When mounting, double-check bolt direction and clearance so no fastener contacts the strap during operation.
Choose a capacity at least 1/3 of your boat's weight. A two-speed unit helps take up slack fast and makes heavier pulls easier in low gear. The ratcheting mechanism can hold the load as you crank to help control the boat without slipping back. If you're near the limit, step up in rating to reduce effort.
Look for two speeds plus a neutral that lets you reel out strap easily. Some ratchets work in either direction so you can wind over or under the drum. If space is tight, check handle length options and make sure any cover or cowling clears your stand and the handle swing.
