Optronics Load Resistor Dimensions

Hyperflashing (or rapid blinking) of turn signals can occur when you switch from incandescent lights to LED lights. LEDs draw less power than incandescent bulbs, which often causes your vehicle to think that the bulb is burned out or about to burn out. And this is what leads to hyperflashing. This load resistor prevents the LED turn signal light on your truck or trailer from hyperflashing by mimicking the power draw of an incandescent light.

Video Transcript for Optronics Load Resistor for LED Lights Installation

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Optronics Load Resistor with Male and Female Plugs for LED Lights. LED lights are great. They're going to be brighter than incandescent bulbs, they last longer, and use less energy. But when you upgrade to an LED light there can be some issues. We may get an error message on our dash saying that we have a bulb out or we can get a hyperflash where the blinker will go extremely fast. While we can still see it's clearly turning on and our turn signal is working, that clicking on the inside of the cab can drive you crazy.

The reason why it's going to hyperflash is because our LEDs have a very low draw on them and the vehicle's looking for a certain amount. So right now the vehicle thinks that our turn signal is out and it hyperflashes to let us know. Well, that's where our resistors is going to come in and help. It's going to add just enough on a load to where it will fix the hyperflashing and the light will work properly. Our resistors are designed to work with 12 Volt systems and they're 50 Watts, 6 Ohms resistors, which is going to great for any LED's that you put on your turn signals or your brake lights. On the one end we'll have a female PL-3 plug.

This is going to plug into the plug coming for the light. Then on the other end we're going to have a right angle male PL-3 plug and this is going to plug directly into the light. So, it's really nice because we're not going to have to cut or splice anything. It's already prewired for us and we just plug it inline behind out light.Keep in mind whenever you're using the resistors, say we have them wired into our turn signals, this part of it is going to get very hot. We want to make sure we mount this to a metal surface and there two tabs here that are going to help us, when you use some self-tapping screws and secure it down.

The total length here is going to be just over 10-1/4" so, we should have plenty of room to get it plugged in and be able to mount it up to a metal surface. So, the way we're going to hook up our resistors, we'll find the light that we want to plug it into. We'll disconnect the plug. We're going to take the female end, we'll plug our light into it and we'll take the male end of our resistor and we're going to plug it directly into the light. Now we can go ahead and test our circuit and make sure that our resistor's working properly. With our resistor installed you can see that our turn signal is working properly and it cured the hyperflashing. One thing to keep in mind is our resistors do come in a quantity of one and you will need one resistor per LED bulb.

So, make sure to order the right amount. That will finish up your look at the Optronics Load Resistor for LED Lights.

Wotks perfectly. Simply amazing. Easy to install. Just plug and play. Doen't show any faults of light control module /LCM/ of my truck 2006 VOLVO VNL430. No rapidly flashers. Exactly how seller explain. Drivers, safe you a lot of money and time at any Volvo dealers to reprogran LCM to works with LED stop, tail and turn lights. If i know that this resistor kit can works with my reverse back white light too /the principle i think is the same/ i can by one more resistor kit for reverse light to complete the back looking style of my truck. One more time big thank you. Strongly recommended to everyone. Fast shipping and delievery too. 458916

Product worked perfectly and was very easy to install with the plugs on either end. Etrailer did a great job communicating about the delivery. Only problem keeping me from 5 stars was a delayed delivery from the mfg in China to Etrailer. 367855

  • Solution for LED Boat Trailer Lights Hyperflashing With 2008 BMW X5
You are correct that you should not submerge load resistors such as the Optronics Load Resistor for LED Lights # ALEDRST2B you mentioned but there are a couple of solutions that won't require you to switch from LED to incandescent. The first would be if your 2008 BMW X5 has a 7-way; if so you can use the 7-Way to 5-Way/4-Way Trailer Adapter for Vehicles with Lamp-Out Sensors Towing Trailers with LEDs # TR20141 or Trailer Connector Adapter w/ Lamp-Out Sensor Bypass - 7-Way RV to 7-Way...

  • New LED Lights Causing Hyperflashing On Flat Bed Truck
Hyperflashing is typically a problem with LED lights being installed on a vehicle that had incandescent bulbs. If that is the case you will need to install load resistors like part # ALEDRST2B on all of the taillights on the flat bed.

  • Recommended Load Resistor Adapter for Hyper Flashing LED Lights on Chevy Flatbed
The Optronics Load Resistor for LED Lights - Male PL-3 Plug and Female PL-3 Plug # ALEDRST2B will create more of a load draw on your system to stop the hyper flashing. I can't give you an exact number needed as it may only require one for each system function. I'd start with one on each side at your tail lights. This will create the needed power draw on your running lights, brake lights, and turn signals.

  • Solution for Strobing LED Lights on Rebuilt Trailer with VW Caddy
We do have load resistors available such as the Putco # P230004A-2 that are designed to fix the hyper flashing/strobing that can occur with LED trailer lights. If the strobing is happening with the trailer signal lights then this is exactly what you need to resolve the issue. It includes 2 load resistors - 1 for each turn signal. We do not have a ready-made resistor box available like what you described. Please let me know if the problem is actually happening on the vehicle side (with...

  • 2008 Mercedes-Benz ML350 Issue With LED Trailer Lights
Yes. High-efficiency LED type trailer lighting pulls much lower current than standard incandescent lights. This can cause odd behavior from the wiring harness but there's a simple solution to this issue. You can install a load resistor at each affected LED light. Load resistors mimic the electrical signature of incandescent lights to let the trailer wiring work as intended. If your trailer lights use a PL-3 type connector you can use Optronics part # ALEDRST2B. If you need to hard-wire...

  • Will Optronics Load Resistor for LED Lights Help Fix Problem with Tekonsha Brake Controller
The Optronics Load Resistor for LED Lights # ALEDRST2B puts a heavier load on the trailer wiring so since your Tekonsha brake controller, like the P3 # 90195, only connects to the trailer via the brake controller output wire the LED lights won't be the cause of any problems with your brake controller. The load resistors help to keep the lights on your tow vehicle or trailer from hyperflashing since LEDs have much less draw than incandescent lights. If you experience hyperflashing then...

The Optronics Round LED Trailer Stop, Turn and Tail Light # STL42RB does use a 3-prong plug for electrical connection. We offer right-angle 10-inch pigtail plug # A47PB and straight pigtail plug # A45PB. Neither of these includes a load resistor, which can be required on some wiring systems to mimic the higher electrical resistance of standard incandescent lights. Some turn signals will hyper-flash when used with LED lights because the wiring does not "see" the load from the super-high-efficiency...

  • How to Fix Motorhome's Hyperflashing after Installing LED Taillights
Your motorhome must have a bulb out sensor. Becasue LED's draw so much less power than incandescents, the bulb-out sensor thinks the bulb is out and causes the circuit to hyperflash. You'll need to install a load resistor like # ALEDRST2B on each lamp. The resistor would plug inline between your existing PL3 plug and the lamp for a plug and play installation. This assumes you're using the # STL23RB lamp you referenced. If you're using a different lamp, you'd use the # P230004A-2 and wire...

  • Troubleshooting LED Lights Not Working On Trailer

A loose ground wire will keep the lights from working. Next, you want to make sure the wiring on the trailer is wired correctly and wired by function, not just by color. I recommend using...
