Firestone Ride-Rite Air Spring Basics

Firestone Ride-Rite springs are designed to increase safety and reduce the strain on your vehicle when you are hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer. The springs partner with your existing rear suspension system to help keep your truck level, maintain even load distribution and increase stability. Hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer can make the rear of your truck sag and the front end rise. This puts more strain on your rear axle and reduces contact between your front tires and the road, causing problems with braking, steering control and traction. By adding air springs to your rear suspension, you can help to level your truck and improve braking and handling. The air springs also help to level your headlight beams and reduce wear on your tires.

Adjustable Air Pressure

Firestone Ride-Rite air spring airline installation

The air pressure in your Ride-Rite springs can be adjusted manually, side to side, to compensate for off-center loads. A centered load improves the stability of your truck by reducing body roll. The air springs will also help to absorb road shock and to soften contact between your axle and frame. This prevents bottoming out, thus improving ride comfort. Route the air line tubing for the springs to your truck's bumper to provide easy access to the manual inflation valves.

Air Spring Construction

RED Label spring construction

Unlike standard Ride-Rite air springs, the RED Label air springs operate up to 150 psi to maximize its weight capacity. The springs have four layers of reinforced rubber to ensure durability and enhance load support. A braided wire girdle creates the double-convoluted shape of each air spring, increasing the burst pressure of the spring. The rubber springs are attached to corrosion-resistant metal end plates with a time-proven, rolled crimp seal that keeps the bags securely anchored.

Air Spring Installation

Each RED Label Extreme Duty kit includes vehicle-specific brackets, fasteners, and hardware for fast, no-drill installation. The hardware installs directly on your axle and frame and the air springs install onto the mounting points provided by the brackets. Additional equipment like control panels, compressors, and air tanks are sold separately.

  • Replacement Firestone Air Bag for a 2001 Chevy 2500 truck
Hey Will, thanks for reaching out! To replace the air bags on your Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2250 you need the Air Spring # F6781. If you have the Red-Label Kit # F2700 then you need the Air Spring # F72VV instead. These come as a single air bag and while they can be replaced on their own, if your system is a bit older it would be better to replace both sides at the same time. Do you use these more for towing, or hauling?

  • Best Suspension Enhancements For A 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
We do carry a variety of suspension enhancements such as air bags for your 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD but all of which are designed to reduce vehicle sag and aid the wear life of current suspension components. None of our suspension enhancements are designed to increase the towing capacity of your vehicle. According to Nada Guides, the max towing capacity of your truck is 10,500 lbs. Therefore, I cannot recommend you use this vehicle for towing a 15,500 lb. 5th wheel trailer. Should...

  • 2005 GMC Sierra Firestone Ride Rite Air Bag Kit Options
If you're needing all of the brackets then it's actually more cost-effective to get a whole new kit than to get the brackets for your 2005 GMC Sierra. I've actually looked into this a number of times (hoping that it changes) and I've reached out to Firestone a handful of times as well and unless you're only replacing a few brackets you'll save money with a new kit (plus I'm not sure I would trust the integrity of any of the brackets on a totaled truck). For a new Ride-Rite kit we have the...

For the weight you are pulling with your 2007 Chevy Silverado 2500 short bed 4x4 Duramax, I recommend the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs - Rear Axle # F2700. These air springs are adjustable from 5 psi to 150 psi and have a leveling capacity of up to 7500 lbs. This kit has the heavy duty brackets and is confirmed to fit your truck. It comes with the manual inflation valves. If you want to add an air compressor for on the road adjustment, I recommend the...

  • Best 5th Wheel Towing Setup for a 2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD
Since you have a short bed (6-1/2') on your 2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD, you will need a rolling hitch or more commonly referred to as a sliding 5th wheel hitch for your 397 Heartland Edge Toy Hauler to make tight turns. The general rule of thumb is that if you're towing a 5th wheel trailer with a truck that has a bed shorter than 8' then you will need a sliding hitch to gain clearance between the trailer and the cab of your vehicle while turning to prevent them from contacting one another,...

  • Recommended Air Bag Suspension Kit for a 2001 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD
I have a great set of air bags for your 2001 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD truck but I have no idea what youtube video you are talking about. I recommend the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs item # F2700. These have a 7,500 lbs capacity and are compatible with 5th wheel hitches. The reason I chose this system was the durability and the ease of installation this kit has. The air bags are constructed of four layers of reinforced rubber to ensure durability. The kit...

  • How to Determine Correct Inflation Pressure for Firestone Ride Rite Helper Springs
Air Helper springs for a tow vehicle or RV's suspension always have a fairly wide range of operating pressure. For instance the Firestone kit you mentioned # F2071 requires nothing less than the minimum 5-psi pressure at all times but can be inflated to as much as 100-psi when the vehicle requires this much stiffening of its suspension. There are also kits such as Firestone # F2700 that are for extra-heavy-duty applications and these use air springs that can handle as much as 150-psi pressure. There...

  • What Front/Rear Axle Suspension do You Recommend for Towing up to 20,000 Pounds on a 2009 GMC 2500?
I have a great suspension solution for you. While towing a trailer that weighs 17,000-20,000 pounds and other heavy setups on your 2009 GMC Sierra 2500HD, the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs - Double Convoluted # F2250 will technically provide you with a bit of support on your rear axle. • Recommended Suspension Enhancement for 2009 Chevy Silverado 3500 with Slide-In Truck Bed Camper
I spoke with my contact at Firestone regarding the capacity of the F2250 Ride-Rite springs. The capacity of the springs is 4800 lbs, which would be nowhere near sufficient to handle the weight of your slide in camper. I would suggest going with an air spring set-up like the Firestone # F2700. With a 7500 lb capacity, this kit would work great for your application. You might also be interested in a compressor kit, part # F2168 that would allow you to add or remove air pressure from the...

With that kind of load the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs part # F2700 is the way to go. This will allow you to get your truck right back to level by adding air into the bags. These offer a larger 7500 lbs. of load leveling capacity. I really like air bags because not only do they help when towing but will also help to improve your unloaded ride quality. Please keep in mind these do not increse the trucks capacity they simply help to level and take the wear...
