Question:
My 02 GMC has gotten to where it squats a fair bit when I hitch up my horse trailer. I had only hauled a couple of times a year the last couple years but plan to do much more this year. I know nothing about what I should be looking for in air bags/ suspension enhancement, particularly the weight capacity I need to look for in the systems. The trailer weight fully loaded is 12,500 lbs. I dont think I have actually hauled at capacity, but it could happen I suppose. What do I need to look for?

With that kind of load the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs part # F2700 is the way to go. This will allow you to get your truck right back to level by adding air into the bags. These offer a larger 7500 lbs. of load leveling capacity. I really like air bags because not only do they help when towing but will also help to improve your unloaded ride quality. Please keep in mind these do not increse the trucks capacity they simply help to level and take the wear and tear off of your truck.
An air compressor can come in handy especially with regular towing. This eliminates the need to find an outside source of air and gives you the ability to adjust on the fly. A good one I recommend is the Air Lift Load Controller Compressor System for Air Helper Springs part # AL25854. It is a nice heavy duty and cost effective system. You will have control of the springs right from the cab of the truck.
