Firestone Ride-Rite Air Spring Basics

Firestone Ride-Rite springs are designed to increase safety and reduce the strain on your vehicle when you are hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer. The springs partner with your existing rear suspension system to help keep your vehicle level, maintain even load distribution and increase stability. Hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer can make the rear of your vehicle sag and the front end rise. This puts more strain on your rear axle and reduces contact between your front tires and the road, causing problems with braking, steering control and traction. By adding air springs to your rear suspension, you can help to level your vehicle and improve braking and handling. The air springs also help to level your headlight beams and reduce wear on your tires.

Firestone Ride-Rite air spring airline installation

Adjustable Air Pressure

The air pressure in your Ride-Rite springs can be adjusted manually, side to side, to compensate for off-center loads. A centered load improves the stability of your vehicle by reducing body roll. The air springs will also help to absorb road shock and to soften contact between your axle and frame. This prevents bottoming out, thus improving ride comfort. Route the air line tubing for the springs to your vehicle's bumper to provide easy access to the manual inflation valves.

Firestone Ride-Ride air spring components

Air Spring Construction

Firestone's double-convoluted Ride-Rite air springs are designed to give you maximum load support and enhance the performance and ride comfort of your vehicle. The rubber springs provide cushioning between your suspension components and operate at up to 100 psi. The springs have four layers of reinforced rubber to ensure durability and enhance load support. A braided wire girdle creates the double-convoluted shape of each air spring, increasing the burst pressure of the spring. The rubber springs are attached to corrosion-resistant metal end plates with a time-proven, rolled crimp seal that keeps the bags securely anchored.

Air Spring Installation

Each Ride-Rite kit includes custom-fit brackets that connect to your axle and frame. The brackets provide the mounting points for the air springs. Drilling may be required for some applications.

Easy to install. Directions are great, as are the videos. I also ordered and used the T piece to make it easy. Just pulled my trailer and definitely noticed a difference. Very smooth over bumps. Just FYI, even at only 5 PSI (minimum recommended) it raised the rear of my truck almost an inch compared to the height before install. Not a big deal, but if you leveled the front of your truck like I did to get rid of the rake, you will now have some rake again. Not a big deal, but just be aware. I used the lift spacers (item F2536) because I have 1.5" spacer blocks on my leaf springs. I basically hook up the trailer or load the bed, watch the back end drop, then hit the air bags with the air compressor until the truck is level again. Rides like a dream. Would definitely purchase again. 454972

Still works great after a year. Definitely makes a difference in the ride quality when you have a heavy load. No leaks. I used the T so only have 1 valve to mess with. I like having the ability to dial in a little bit of rake in the truck Had previously leveled the truck by cranking the torsion bars in front, also have 1.5 blocks in rear. 2007 Duramax

Good product could use better instructions for installation. Would be better if they placed them as 1.2.3. instead of paragraph sentences. The videos are helpful if they play properly. Took about 3 hours to install. Camping world wanted $150 to install them. 93671

If you truck has a 6 inch lift you might consider using the Firestone Lift Spacers # F2375. This kit is designed to work with kits that mount to the axle on your truck like how the Firestone Ride-Rite # F2250 install.

I have had these air bags for a year now and love them. I own a 2007, 2500 Duramax and I haul a 32' 3 horse trailer with living quarters and the air bags give me a much smoother level ride. I installed them myself with ease ( I did not bleed or lose knuckle skin) and the directions where great. The only thing I wish I would have done is get the air compressor for the bags, but that was due to limited funds at the time but I will be getting the compressor this year. 401764

So far so good. I received the items as ordered. I installed them Saturday morning in the average estimated time of 3 hours. They look great and and working great so far. Pulling 5th wheel this weekend 1,000 miles to Sturgis so we will know more in 2 weeks. Product and instruction video online made this an easy install. One a 1-5 difficulty I’d give this a three. Is you have any mechanical ability you can put these on yourself and save $$$. 855297

This is an excellent system for this vehicle. It has firmed up the ride a bit but it is very pleasing at about 7.5 pounds. I can not wait to hook up to the fifth wheel. It was very straight forward in the work to be performed and for me it is quite rewarding. 798821

The Firestone airbags were very easy to install. The only place that I scratched my head was for the torque values for the various hardware. I eventually located it at the end of the instructions. It is common in the better auto repair manuals to list the torque ratings in the drawings. Just an idea. Since I'm somewhat OCD when it comes to mechanical work, I always have a torque wrench in hand for the final tightening. Your instructional videos are a real time saver. Well Done!!! The air tubing cutter worked as advertised. Nice, clean and even cuts every time. 693914

This is the second time I have installed this airbag kit on different vehicles. This time I recommended this particular kit for my daughter’s truck. Each time, everything I needed was there, along with easy to read instructions. It only took 3 hours to install the kit this time and had the truck out of the garage. Since I have never had a problem with the kit, I cannot attest to responsiveness of the company for help, but based on the service I received from the sales department I would expect nothing less from service. 522315

Haven't installed them yet as I'm still recovering from surgery. But have past experience with air bags and love what they do for the truck . These are going on my 2008 chev 3500 drw . We recently traded our tt for a 40 foot 5th wheel . I waited till we had the new camper hitched up to order as I wanted to see how much it made the truck squat which was just 2 inches . But with the condition of a lot of our interstates and highways that's just a little too much . Can't wait to get them on I'm ready to go play . Etrailer service was flawless as usual the order was well packed no damage and arrived on time . 363476

For your 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, I recommend the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F2250. These airbags will do an excellent job of helping to distribute the weight of the trailer across the vehicle in addition to helping with stability and off center loads. Also, as a simple rule of thumb, you will want to use only enough air...
