Firestone Ride-Rite Air Spring Basics

Firestone Ride-Rite springs are designed to increase safety and reduce the strain on your vehicle when you are hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer. The springs partner with your existing rear suspension system to help keep your vehicle level, maintain even load distribution and increase stability. Hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer can make the rear of your vehicle sag and the front end rise. This puts more strain on your rear axle and reduces contact between your front tires and the road, causing problems with braking, steering control and traction. By adding air springs to your rear suspension, you can help to level your vehicle and improve braking and handling. The air springs also help to level your headlight beams and reduce wear on your tires.

Firestone Ride-Rite air spring airline installation

Adjustable Air Pressure

The air pressure in your Ride-Rite springs can be adjusted manually, side to side, to compensate for off-center loads. A centered load improves the stability of your vehicle by reducing body roll. The air springs will also help to absorb road shock and to soften contact between your axle and frame. This prevents bottoming out, thus improving ride comfort. Route the air line tubing for the springs to your vehicle's bumper to provide easy access to the manual inflation valves.

Firestone Ride-Ride air spring components

Air Spring Construction

Firestone's double-convoluted Ride-Rite air springs are designed to give you maximum load support and enhance the performance and ride comfort of your vehicle. The rubber springs provide cushioning between your suspension components and operate at up to 100 psi. The springs have four layers of reinforced rubber to ensure durability and enhance load support. A braided wire girdle creates the double-convoluted shape of each air spring, increasing the burst pressure of the spring. The rubber springs are attached to corrosion-resistant metal end plates with a time-proven, rolled crimp seal that keeps the bags securely anchored.

Air Spring Installation

Each Ride-Rite kit includes custom-fit brackets that connect to your axle and frame. The brackets provide the mounting points for the air springs. Drilling may be required for some applications.

Gives you . It'll level your headlight beams, and will even help reduce tire wear. These will maintain even load distribution with air pressure. Leveling off center loads. Now, these airbags will adjust manually side-to-side with individual inflation valves. This will help reduce strain on your rear suspension.

Prevents permanent sagging, and excessive friction in your leaf springs. These will increase stability. They absorb road shock for a nice smooth ride. And you can see, they are a double convoluted design.

This part includes everything laid out here on the table. Includes all the materials that are necessary for installing them. Comes with the brackets, the air springs, all the hardware, airline, separate values for manual inflation. Good product could use better instructions for installation. Would be better if they placed them as 1.2.3. instead of paragraph sentences. The videos are helpful if they play properly. Took about 3 hours to install. Camping world wanted $150 to install them. 93671

i just bought a 2010 silverado with 6 lift. is that what you got as well i cant tell from your pics.did you have to buy or make a extension mount for the fram braket?

If you truck has a 6 inch lift you might consider using the Firestone Lift Spacers # F2375. This kit is designed to work with kits that mount to the axle on your truck like how the Firestone Ride-Rite # F2250 install.

Was concerned if thls kit would fit a 2010 Silverado 2500 HD Quad cab with 6.5 ft. bed with a B&W fifth wheel turn over ball hitch. It took me 2.5 hours and every thing fit perfect. No problem with the instructions dead on, and the only holes I had to drill was in the rear bumper for the air fittings. Have had them on since November no air leaks or problems. This make my truck ride excellent with my toy hauler and other gooseneck trailer I have. Alot cheeper than a air pin box and does the same thing,no more chucking and bouncing. thanks 7291

Easy to install. Directions are great, as are the videos. I also ordered and used the T piece to make it easy. Just pulled my trailer and definitely noticed a difference. Very smooth over bumps. Just FYI, even at only 5 PSI (minimum recommended) it raised the rear of my truck almost an inch compared to the height before install. Not a big deal, but if you leveled the front of your truck like I did to get rid of the rake, you will now have some rake again. Not a big deal, but just be aware. I used the lift spacers (item F2536) because I have 1.5" spacer blocks on my leaf springs. I basically hook up the trailer or load the bed, watch the back end drop, then hit the air bags with the air compressor until the truck is level again. Rides like a dream. Would definitely purchase again. 454972

Still works great after a year. Definitely makes a difference in the ride quality when you have a heavy load. No leaks. I used the T so only have 1 valve to mess with. I like having the ability to dial in a little bit of rake in the truck Had previously leveled the truck by cranking the torsion bars in front, also have 1.5 blocks in rear. 2007 Duramax

The Firestone airbags were very easy to install. The only place that I scratched my head was for the torque values for the various hardware. I eventually located it at the end of the instructions. It is common in the better auto repair manuals to list the torque ratings in the drawings. Just an idea. Since I'm somewhat OCD when it comes to mechanical work, I always have a torque wrench in hand for the final tightening. Your instructional videos are a real time saver. Well Done!!! The air tubing cutter worked as advertised. Nice, clean and even cuts every time. 693914

Installed this on a 2004 Chevy 2500 HD in about three hours. All the brackets fit perfectly, and appear to be good and stout. This is a work truck and it is typically hauling about 1000 lbs. in the back. This product really helped the stance and ride of my truck. 615002

Second time I purchase this product , installed them on a 2008 Dodge Ram and now on a 2002 Chevy Silverado. If you follow the instructions you won’t have a hard time , steps need to be followed in order to avoid double work. Great product , took about 3.5 hours to install. 530086

This is the second time I have installed this airbag kit on different vehicles. This time I recommended this particular kit for my daughter’s truck. Each time, everything I needed was there, along with easy to read instructions. It only took 3 hours to install the kit this time and had the truck out of the garage. Since I have never had a problem with the kit, I cannot attest to responsiveness of the company for help, but based on the service I received from the sales department I would expect nothing less from service. 522315

I have had these air bags for a year now and love them. I own a 2007, 2500 Duramax and I haul a 32' 3 horse trailer with living quarters and the air bags give me a much smoother level ride. I installed them myself with ease ( I did not bleed or lose knuckle skin) and the directions where great. The only thing I wish I would have done is get the air compressor for the bags, but that was due to limited funds at the time but I will be getting the compressor this year. 401764

One side has to be inflated up more often than it should. The other side seems to be OK. When they are both inflated, they support the weight well. My camper weighs over 3300 lbs. It was not an easy installation although it looks like it should be. 397752

Haven't installed them yet as I'm still recovering from surgery. But have past experience with air bags and love what they do for the truck . These are going on my 2008 chev 3500 drw . We recently traded our tt for a 40 foot 5th wheel . I waited till we had the new camper hitched up to order as I wanted to see how much it made the truck squat which was just 2 inches . But with the condition of a lot of our interstates and highways that's just a little too much . Can't wait to get them on I'm ready to go play . Etrailer service was flawless as usual the order was well packed no damage and arrived on time . 363476

2002 Chevrolet Silverado

I'm a do-it-yourself repair person, so no professional training. And I'm not one to follow instructions, though for this install I did... Installed on a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 4x4 Duramax. When I bought the truck I had had the front end of the truck lifted to level it out, then put on tires two sizes up. I can't drop (don't want to drop) the front end back down, so I picked these up to help the rear end when I have loads or heavy trailers. Easy to install! No special tools! In fact, only a 9/16 box wrench and socket, a 1/2 in wrench, a 13mm socket and pair of dykes to cut the zip ties. That's it! No lifting the truck off the ground (did remove spare). No leaks! Took about 2.5 hours (at my pace). Instructions were accurate, and what the paper instructions didn't say, the video that e-trailer has covered the rest. Thank you! 349576

Everything fit and install as expected. Soon to put it to the workload test. One tip I found very helpful, if you can jack up on the frame of the truck (use jack stands and general safety precautions) it will provide much more room and make the installation easier. I figured that out after I struggled with the first bag. 190315

Packaging of this product was fine, and delivery was on time. Pricing very competitive with other internet providers. Etrailer support is as expected....very good. I and my neighbor installed this air bags in my 2009 Silverado 2500 HD Diesel to give me greater support while pulling my fifth wheel trailer (with a tongue weight of 2300 lb). Install took us about 3 hours to complete, with no problems what so ever (not even a leak in the air lines...which I worried about...cut them carefully with a razor knife). After the install and air test, I hooked up my fifth wheel and was pleasantly surprised how the ride improved. Would recommend this product. I put 30 psi in the bags and the results on the suspension we outstanding! 140486

When I first purchased the kit I thought it was over priced. Once I finished the install by myself, in under two hours, in my driveway, with only a few simple tools, the price looked a little better. When I added in the very heavy-duty construction and quality construction the price started to look pretty darn good. Well, as I sit here in Florida after the nicest 750 mile pull I must say that the F2250 kit is probable the best money I have spent in a long time. If you pull you will understand what I mean about the problem you have when you hit a number of bumps in a row. This product almost completely solves the problem. In addition the over-all ride is much better. 119698

  • The best airbags we have for your 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 are the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F2250. These airbags will do an excellent job of helping maintain stability and support when you are using your truck bed camper or towing your 5th wheel trailer. They will also not interfere with the frame brackets you have for your hitch which can be a problem for some airbag kits. I recommend Firestone airbags over Air Lift airbags as they have a stronger sleeve and will...

  • PSI Recommendation for Firestone Sport-Rite Air Helper Springs on GMC Sierra when Pulling Camper
  • The Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2250 on your 2003 GMC Sierra can be manually adjusted between 5 PSI and 100 PSI. According to the installation manual, the Air Helper Springs will typically support about 50 pounds of load for each psi of inflation pressure (per pair). For example, 50 psi of inflation pressure on a pair of helper springs will support an approximate load of 2500 pounds per pair of springs. Also, as a simple rule of thumb, you will want to use only enough air...

  • Will Firestone Lift Spacers # F2373 Work with Firestone Air Bags on 2006 GMC Sierra
  • We do offer several Firestone rear-axle air bag kits for the 2006 GMC Sierra; all of the available items can be seen on the link provided. At the top of the page you can select the version of the Sierra you have to see only the compatible kits. The air bag you referenced, Firestone kit 2340, I do not find in the Firestone fit guide, but I do find their part # 2430 which is a rear-axle kit for the 2007 and later model years of the GMC Sierra. However, this kit is not shown as a fit for...

  • Availability of 6 Inch Spacers for Firestone Airbags on a Truck with 6 Inch Lift
  • You would just need the 6 inch spacers, # F2374. Using 2 sets of the 3 inch spacers is not a good idea because the more components you add to the system the more points of weakness there are. Not that the spacers or system are weak but if you can avoid a potential issue it would be a good idea. Spacer # F2374 is for use on air bag systems that mount on leaf springs and # F2375 is for air bag systems that mount on axles.

  • Firestone 2250 Airbag Fit for 2006 Chevy Silverado 3500 With B&W Flipover Gooseneck Hitch
  • I spoke with my contact at Firestone, who tells me that the frame bracket for your B and W Gooseneck hitch will not interfere with the installation or use of the Ride Rite # 2250 Air Helper Spring. The air bag will locate between the underside of the frame member and the top of the axle, just in board of the leaf springs as shown in the diagram posted for you.

  • Heavy Duty Air Ride Suspension for a 2004 Chevy 3500 Extend Cab Diesel Cab and Chassis
  • For a 2004 Silverado 3500 Cab/Chassis, I'd recommend the Firestone # F2249 Ride Rite air suspension. The system has a 5000 lb capacity, although you'll be limited by the cargo carrying capacity of your truck. The beauty of an air bag system is that you can quickly and easily adjust the amount of air in the system to provide the right support for the load you're carrying. If your Silverado has a pickup truck bed on it, you'd use the # F2250 Ride Rite suspension. You can go a step further...

  • Fit of Firestone Air Bags # F2250 With Reese # RP56007-53 5th Wheel Brackets on 2003 Silverado
  • I examined the installation instructions for the Reese # RP56007-53 fifth wheel install kit and the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Spring Kit, comparing where the mount in regard to the frame members of your 2003 Silverado. Since the springs mount to the underside of the frame memeber (see diagram), they will NOT interfere with the fifth wheel frame brackets. I confirmed this with my Firestone representative. I have linked you to instructions for the air springs and the fifth wheel brackets,...

  • Is Air Suspension System Needed When Towing Trailer With 2010 Silverado Z71 4x4
  • When you tow with your 2010 Chevrolet Silverado, there are a few things to consider. If a trailer weighs more than 50 percent of the towing vehicle's weight then weight distribution is recommended. If you are experiencing sag on your truck due to the trailer tongue weight then weight distribution would help with that as well. I have attached a helpful article that explains weight distribution you can check out. Air bags are not designed to eliminate the sag due to a heavy trailer tongue...

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement for 2009 Chevy Silverado 3500 with Slide-In Truck Bed Camper
  • I spoke with my contact at Firestone regarding the capacity of the F2250 Ride-Rite springs. The capacity of the springs is 4800 lbs, which would be nowhere near sufficient to handle the weight of your slide in camper. I would suggest going with an air spring set-up like the Firestone # F2700. With a 7500 lb capacity, this kit would work great for your application. You might also be interested in a compressor kit, part # F2168 that would allow you to add or remove air pressure from the...

  • Rear Suspension Enhancement Systems to Reduce Sway on a Truck With In Bed Camper
  • The Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs, # F2250, will help control sway on rough terrain, but the main purpose of the air helper springs is to keep your vehicle level when hauling heavy loads and level off-center loads. For your situation I would recommend either our Timbren Rear Suspension System or our SuperSprings Vehicle Suspension Stabilizer and Sway-Control Kit. These two suspension enhancement systems are designed to be used with constant loads like your in bed camper...

  • Will the Firestone Ride-Rite Airbags fit a 2007 Chevy 2500 Classic with a Pullrite Superglide Hitch
  • The Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs, # F2250, mount to the bottom of the frame rail on your 2007 Chevrolet Silverado classic body. Airbag manufacturers do not test their mounting brackets for fits with specific fifth wheel or gooseneck hitches. To determine if these bags will fit with your Superglide hitch, you will want to take a look at the mounting brackets for your hitch. As long as the mounting brackets for your Pullrite Superglide do not mount on the bottom of the frame...

  • Firestone Ride Rite Air Bag Kit Recommendation for 2016 Ford F-350
  • The Firestone air bag kit part # F2250 that you mentioned is intended to fit older GMC and Chevy trucks so it would not be the correct fit for your 2016 Ford F-350. Instead you'd want the # F2597 which is a confirmed fit and would work well.

  • Recommended Air Pressure in Firestone # F2250 Ride Rite Air Springs for Towing Fifth Wheel
  • The # F2250 Ride Rite system needs a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 100 psi. The proper air pressure for towing your fifth wheel would depend solely on your personal preference. I'd start at about 50 psi, and make some test runs. Add or lower air pressure until you find which level provides the most comfortable ride. You'll eventually find a comfortable towing and non-towing air pressure.

  • Will the Firestone Air Command I Part # F2158 Fit a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado
  • The Firestone Air Command I part # F2158 is an air compressor system that is is designed to be used with a set of airbags like the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F2250. Although the airbag kit will be vehicle specific, the air compressor kit will not. The only requirement of the air compressor kit is space and since you have plenty on your 2008 Chevrolet Silverado there should be no problems finding a place to mount it. If you need an idea where to mount or run the lines...

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2008 Chevrolet Silverado With 6-Inch Lift Kit
  • We have just what you are looking for. The suspension enhancement I recommend for your 2008 Chevrolet Duramax is the Firestone Ride-Rite Helper Springs, part # F2250. This system can be installed without drilling and helps work with your suspension when you are towing or carrying heavy loads. The system helps with sagging and helps absorb road shock. Installing a suspension enhancement system will not increase the vehicle weight carrying capacity and should only be used on a vehicle...

  • Recommended Air Suspension Kit For 2007 Chevrolet Silverado With Lift Kit
  • I called my contact at Firestone and asked about your 2007 Silverado with the lift kit. They said that the best way to find out which spacer kit you need is to get the Air Springs and after mocking up the upper and lower brackets you can measure to make sure you get the correct spacers for your truck. Although you said you have a 6 inch lift, my contact said there was probably some degree of lift on the vehicle already and getting spacers for a 6 inch lift kit would not be a sure fit. I...

  • Should I Repair or Replace the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Spring on my 2001 Chevy 3500
  • I called my contact at Firestone(Ride-Rite) and they informed me that the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs part # F2700 contains different air bags and mounting brackets that are rated for higher weight capacities in comparison to the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F2250. Therefore in order to use the Red Label Heavy Duty airbags on your 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 you would need to replace the entire kit. The Red Label Kit can support up to...

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendations for 2010 Chevy Silverado Towing 5th Wheel Trailer
  • Both the air springs and the Timbren systems would be compatible with an installed fifth wheel hitch, I've confirmed this for you with Timbren and Firestone. The Timbren system will not have any effect at all on your ride until there's a load placed on your rear suspension. As more weight is added, the springs will get progressively more stiff. This is a passive, non adjustable system. The Firestone Ride Rite # F2250 system would allow you to fine tune your suspension as you wish....

  • Adjustable air springs like the Firestone Ride-Rite Rear Air Helper Springs, part # F2250, can be tuned to match the load on the tow vehicle at any given time, but they cannot be operated when completely deflated. The air bags can be damaged if used without at least 5 psi pressure. Please note that no product of this type can increase the weight carrying capacity of your vehicle. This particular kit is not suitable for the Silverado 1500, only for 2500 and 3500 series trucks. The correct...

  • Suspension Enhancement for a 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Diesel and Different Trailer Types
  • To start, adding a suspension lift on your 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD is going to require either a custom suspension enhancement kit or spacers because using a regular suspension enhancement kit on a suspension lifted vehicle would mean the helper springs would not engage when they are supposed to. Adding a lift can also make the towing capacity unknown (most likely lowers it) so I would not recommend it. Considering that you tow different loads the best option would be to go with air...

  • I called my contact at Air Lift about the LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs, part # AL88275 for your 2008 GMC Sierra 2500. They told me that as long as you have 6 inches clearance between the air bags and your exhaust you should be okay. If you have less than 6 inches then a heat shield is recommended to protect the air bags. You will want to make sure you run the air line away from the exhaust as well. To be able to control the air pressure in the springs from the comfort of your...

  • Firestone Ride Rite Kit, Compressor and Lift Kit Spacers for 2007 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
  • The amperage that the Compressor kit part # F2219 draws is 18 amps. Firestone recommends a 20 amp circuit. I would also recommend 12 gauge wire for this. So going with a fuse rated slightly higher would be ideal. The Firestone kit part # F2250 is the correct Firestone Ride Rite kit for your 2007 Chevy 2500HD Classic also. If the lift kit of the truck is actually a 5 inch lift then you will want the part # F2373 as a spacer kit. Otherwise the 6 inch part # F2375 would be needed. Since...
