This sleek and sturdy trunk-mounted rack lets you carry 3 bikes on your sedan, hatchback, or van. It has all the great features of the Bones and adds a strap management system and an expanded, arched base with dog legs that fit over large spoilers.
Features:
Specs:
Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.
The sleek and sturdy Bones EX lets you carry 3 bikes on the back of your vehicle. It has all the great features as the popular Bones rack and adds expanded, dog legs that allow the rack to fit over most large spoilers. It also has an integrated strap management system that keeps the tie-down straps from flapping while you are driving.
The Bones EX will fit on more types of vehicles than the Bones. It has an expanded, dog leg design on the upper 2 legs that allows the rack to fit over most spoilers.
The Bones EX has dual injection-molded plastic arms that provide excellent support for your bikes. The adjustable arms accommodate women's, children's, and alternative frame bikes and keep them level on the rack. The arms are arched to allow your bikes to hang at different heights for optimal ground clearance and to prevent your handlebars and pedals from tangling.
The adjustable arms are mounted on a horizontal tube with grooves that allow the arms or legs to lock in place. To raise or lower an arm simply slide it to the center of the horizontal tube where it's smooth, rotate arm to desired position, and slide it back along the grooves to the edge of the rack.
You can fold the arms down when the rack is not in use. This frees up space for you to park in your garage without removing the rack from your vehicle.
Rubber, anti-sway cradles with spring-loaded ratchet straps firmly grip your bike's frame at 3 points, helping to prevent front-to-back sway. This minimizes bike-to-bike and bike-to-car contact during transit.
The rack is easy to set up on your trunk or hatch. First, use the black turn knob at the end of each support leg to loosen them from their positions on the center bar. Then, slide them from their place on the integrated grooves out to the smooth section of the bar. Adjust the legs to a position that will best fit your trunk. Then slide them back over the grooves to hold them in your desired position. Use the black turn knob to tighten them down.
Place the lower padded legs above your bumper and the upper padded legs on your upper trunk or hatch. The rubber pads protect your paint and are slip-resistant to help prevent the rack from shifting during transit.
6 Extra-long nylon straps anchor the rack in place on your trunk or hatch with steel hooks. The hooks have a vinyl coating to prevent scratches and scuffs and are individually labeled to indicate where each hook should be placed for a proper install. Each strap has an easy-to-use ladder-lock buckle to tighten it in place.
There are grooves built into the legs that prevent the straps from flapping while you are driving. Simply run the straps through the grooves while you are setting the rack up on your vehicle.

Easy to install and sturdy.
Great bike rack!
Great customer service. I first tried sourcing this purchase from [online]. They cancelled my order indicating they can't acquire the item from the manufacturer. eTrailer managed instead to fulfill my request. Very grateful for your effort. Thank you.
I received my Saris Bones EX 2 trunk mounted bike rack. I was surprised that it came with no instruction manual. Through trial and error, I was able to figure out how to install. Product description said it was guaranteed to fit my model of automobile and it does. Online [online] says extra strap length can be hidden in the main tube and covered with the end caps. I think I did it right. (Instructions would have been nice.)
Having just received, I have not yet traveled with a bike on the rack. The 6-point tie down offers a snug fit. My wife and I use and travel with a tandem bicycle. Even though it is longer than the normal bicycle, I am not expecting any issues. If I do, I’ll submit another review.
So far, so good. The confirmed fitting for my car was excellent as described by etrailer. The test will be an upcoming 3 hour road trip.
The Saros Bones EX 2 bike rack has been a good fit for a hatchback, allowing me to securely carry one e-bike or two non-e-bikes from my home to the cycling paved path (about 5 miles away in city traffic). I recommend this rack if you need to attach to a hatchback car and have a good distance to bring the bike. Mike in Providence, RI
Best bike rack for my Mitsubishi Outlander. Bikes are secure and it’s easy to use.
This is a good rack, it serves me well. I must admit that any rack that rests on a window makes me nervous, but I’ve trusted the experts at e-trailer through many years and many vehicles and never been disappointed.
Got this rack to carry a bike on a car where it has to clear a trunklid spoiler. That it does.
Good product. Not perfect, but good. Does rest rubber feet on painted surfaces, so I keep a clean microfiber towel handy to wipe the feet before each use so they don't scratch up the car's paint.
Quick and easy to use. Looks bulky but it's all lightweight plastic. Seems plenty sturdy enough for the job, although time will tell how long that remains true.
Finally, a small quibble: The caps at each end of the fat tube are supposed to store the excess lengths of strapping, but the friction-fit caps promptly fall out so the straps just dangle. But there's no real harm done by that; it's merely a bit unsightly. On the whole, this device does the job.
I think the Saris rack holds my bike securely. I just put the rack on for the first time; it took me a while, but I think it will be very simple the next time. The rack is actually made for a bicycle with a top frame tube that is parallel to the ground. My bike has a slight angle, but the rack works very well on the 2024 Mini Cooper. Stacey, with etrailer, was incredible supportive and knowledgeable.
Truly a great product! The bike rack is a huge improvement over the one it replaces. I had lost confidence in it, as it was always loose and sloppy when in use for long distances. The materials are high-quality, with very dense plastic arms, a metal main tube, and strapping that can be pulled quite tight. Overall a very solid piece of equipment. Each bike has three points of attachment, which keeps them very stable. The ratchet mechanism is much easier to manipulate when compared to web straps, which always seem to work loose, but are difficult to work with when removing a bike. The feet, which get placed on the glass and in the license plate well on my Subaru, are flexible and substantial. When placed according to the online fitment guide, I can still use my backup camera, at least when no bikes are on. I can also drop the arms easily when not carry bikes, and storage off of the car will be very easy. For my wife's step-through frame, I acquired the Saris Bike Beam, which makes placement on the arms very easy, and seems to be very stable. These products are clearly well engineered and manufactured. Great customer service and fast shipping from Etrailer combine for a great purchasing experience. I highly recommend this item!
Great product so far! Easy to install and adjust. A little tricky to load 2 large handlebar mountain bikes and a third smaller bike, but we just turned them sideways with the front wheels taken off. We had racks on bikes which were probably the impediment. We got them on though! Love how it folds up easy for quick storage. Works great on 2014 Subaru Outback.

Working great!
It works! Very versatile rack that works on a lot of different vehicles so it took a little fiddling to get right, but it work great on my 2021 Civic Sport Hatch. A little “plasticy” for my tastes but fit and finish appear to be satisfactory. etrailer as usual was spot on with shipping and customer service.
This bike rack is perfect for our Kia carnival minivan. Very sturdy and does not put pressure on the back of the van.
I’m not happy with this purchase. I have 3 bikes and one of them is heavy. That’s the one I put on first and then the other two. Unfortunately one day I was driving with the bikes to the park which is a five minute drive the arms on the rack started to slip. I don’t use it to drive long distance afraid that it may fall off and cause an accident.

It sounds like either, your bike is too heavy this 3 bike carrier can only hold 35 lbs per bike or something is not attached right. Stabilizing straps help with bike tire wiggle which may cause the rack to swing around or finding an adapter bar for childrens or step through bikes so that they are stable on the rack.
Great bike rack! I've had it for a year and it is still working well (for the most part). Easy to mount on the trunk of my Honda. The only issue (not etrailer.com's fault) is that one of the mounts broke on the first use. For warranty repair, I contacted the Saris company directly. Turns out one of my bikes was just less than a pound above the maximum weight rating (because I added a bike rack) and they refused to honor the warranty. Seems like there would be a margin of error in a rating like that (and bit of flexibility and understanding - the part broke because the mount was flawed). Superglue fixed the problem, but I was disappointed with Saris.
The Saris Bones EX3 Bike Rack has worked very well for me, proving to be stable and secure in carrying two or three cycles. It's a bit challenging to install on my Subaru Forester due to the vehicles special need to capture the side retainers inside the vehicle, but once installed it may provide some security from theft.
Condition: Surface Scratches
Notes: There are imperfections on the straps, and the feet are slightly dirty. Otherwise, looks new.

Thanks for the awesome feedback and photo Robert! I'm happy to hear the new rack is a big upgrade and giving you the stability and confidence you needed. Great call using the Saris Bike Beam for the step-through frame too. If you need anything else along the way, we'll be here for you!
