Is easy to secure to the back of my 2012 Mazda 5 station wagon. Mounting 3 adult sized bikes took some practice to navigate through hinged braces especially with a bike that had an unconventional frame. Requires some bungee cord traction to keep front wheels from flailing around but that is probably an issue with all bike racks?
2019 Mazda CX-5.
1st you’ll want to get protective pads for the hooks. They sell them [online]. The hooks are coated with a rubberized material but I didn’t want to risk getting scratches as some other reviews said. As far as the actual rack it took a bit to get it adjusted so the bottom crank on my bike wouldn’t hit it. Top bar should be right in the middle of the rear window. Once I got it on & everything seemed secure I took off. 50 min trip 40 mins on the freeway. Unfortunately 20 min in the top hook came undone. I had to pull over on the emergency lane to re adjust it. Luckily 4 of the 6 straps were still tight enough to hold my bike on but I almost lost it. After I got it secured again I made it to my destination with no other issues. Definitely watched it thru my rear view tho. On my way back I knotted all the excess strap around the rack to secure it even more. I added a picture for an example. It seemed to help. I had no issues on the way back. I would suggest if you need to go on the freeway keep your speed below 60mph. Once I got home & took my bike off I did notice the red cradles did get some wear from the shifting cables & hydraulic brake hoses. Also the padding in anti sway cages came off (Added a picture below) & left a few scratches on the bike frame. I’ll have to figure out a way to protect the frame for the next trip. Overall it’s not an ok rack. Definitely more for short trips under 30mph. You shouldn’t have any issues. If you have to do some short Freeway trips really secure it & knot the excess strap. Keep your speed under 60/65mph & add something where the anti sway cage is to prevent scratches on your frame. Avoid anything longer then 40 mins. I’ll probably look into another rack for my 50 min trip & use this only for short city trips under 30mph. Also avoid leaving your bike unattended. This has a cable lock but someone could easily clip it. I’d suggested getting a 2nd chain lock for added security if you need to park. Stay close & don’t leave it for more then a few mins. And remember to take it off before getting on the road again.
Works great! We keep it set up to one position because it's used on my car only. I'm glad we bought the lock feature because we can just leave the rack on at the trail site. This was a great purchase. I'm impressed that you follow up on your product. I recall your staff was quite helpful in making sure I purchased the correct item for my car and set it up correctly. No recent pictures of the carrier but I do have one of myself as "happy camper" on the Fox River Trail which was doable because of the carrier purchase!!
Rock sold bike rack. Heavy duty tubular frame with 6 strap points. Easy to attach to my 2020 Mazda 5. Heavy rubber straps with 3 secure points per bike keep them still on the road. Don't rely on built in lock for security though. Suggest using a heavier cable with a quality lock.
I was really surprised how sturdy this bike rack is! On my first test run on my Toyota RAV4 I had two bikes on it and they didn't even wiggle a bit! Great product! Also, I've included pics on how to load women's/girl's bikes. I loaded them on backwards and used the "anti-sway" bar to go around the front tire and it worked like a dream!! I highly recommend!
The Malone rack adjusts to fit my 2017 Trax really snugly and securely. Once we learned how to configure the bikes for best fit, everything traveled without movement.
The only downside is that this system seems designed for narrow road bikes rather than the mountain and hybrid bikes we own. Although the anti-sway cradles are sufficiently wide for mountain tires, the close proximity of the individual bike setups sometimes cause a strap to pull loose during travel, so we keep the bikes cabled to the rack frame. We are able to make it work. For narrower bikes, I would recommend this rack without reservation.
This rack was really simple to put together and worked great! I had it together, attached and loaded by myself in a little over 30 minutes. It fit our 2015 RAV4 without any issues. Our three bikes when on and off without a problem! Can't wait to get more use out of it!
It was very easy to install probably took me about 7 to 10 minutes. I am glad that I watched your video because it made it go a lot easier.
With two bikes on the rack for an extended highway road trip, it's basically impossible to keep the rack still, it moves around quite a bit leaving scuff/blemishes on the car. My car is brand new so needless to say I was disappointed to say the least. I did tighten the straps as best I could, without ripping them them off completely and re-tighten throughout my trip but the problem remained. Also the two top straps rub on the paint leaving scuff/blemishes in the paint. Also several of the rubber straps that hold the bike onto the rack came off several times throughout the trip. I'm not sure this rack is meant for highway speeds for long periods of time. I'm overall Disappointed. I don't like to give negative feedback.Looking to put on a hitch mounted rack.

I do recommend a hitch mounted rack for longer trips at highway speeds. If you need a hitch for the 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon I recommend etrailer hitch part # E98847. This class 3 hitch offers a tongue weight rating of 600 lbs, it will work well for carrying bikes on a bike rack. The etrailer hitch is matte black and corrosion resistant so it will look great on your brand new Subaru. For a hitch mounted bike rack I recommend the Thule hitching post pro part # TH934XTR. This bike rack will carry 4 bikes and features a built-in anti-rattle bolt that secures the rack to your hitch and reduces vibration and noise.
Mounting the rack with the pictured instructions that came with it was not helpful at all. I ended up watching tutorials on how to install a back trunk hanging bike rack. I finally got it on.
Next: couldn’t get my bike mounted! I have a female bike. And the middle bar wouldn’t fit up on the arms of the rack.
Now I’m having to find a solution to fix my dilemma.
A straight bar will fix my problem. But I’ve already spent all the money I can afford on the rack. If you could ship me one out that would be most helpful.

Thank you for your review! I attached a link to our ion of adaptor bars that may fit your needs.
The bike rack that I ordered from etrailer came really quickly and arrived in perfect condition. What little assembly required was snap to do. I haven't transported any bikes yet but it seems very secure on my car.

I really like this bike carrier. It is strong and very secure. I have used it many times, with up to three bikes and have not been very worried about something going awry. Only used it on an interstate with two bikes.
I have used this rack for road, mountain, kids and street bikes, and had up to three bikes on the back. Drove with it down to Florida and back. Easy, dependable, adaptable, fast to set up and take off. I have also used the lock feature. The way I set it up, I can still open my hatch with the rack on. Real easy on and off for the bikes.
The rack was simple to put on the vehicle, though the visual only instructions provided a moment or two of frustration. Though nothing that should deter in the least. I had to tech out to tech support for a quick clarification. They were prompt and helpful. Overall very satisfied.
Really nice bike rack. Fits a 2011 Outback with no issue. I was hesitant to get a rack that hangs on the back of the car because I was worried about scratches/damage to the finish etc. This unit comes with nicely coated strap hooks and the bumpers seem to protect well. Obviously you want to install the rack when your car is clean to prevent surface dirt from marring the finish.
The rack is easy to position and holds three bikes well. The bike straps are sturdy yet flexible and the fold down option is nice when the rack is not in use. Overall very pleased.
It’s an awesome bike rack. Only problem I’m having is a strap keeps popping loose as I’m driving.

Thank you for your review. I contacted Malone and they said to make sure you are using an adapter bar if the top tube of the bike is slanted. I recommend to use part # 64005 to give the bike a level horizontal surface to hang from otherwise it can put extra pressure on the rubber straps.

I like it but… the bikes at the end of the rack came loose and the back of the bike slipped off the rack while I was driving. The stand is very sturdy but the actual piece that cradles the bike frame is flat. As you drive the bike pops the rubber strap. Fortunately I could tell before any damage could be done. Also I had bull straps that I used for my other rack and was able to secure the bike better
Bike rack is well built and very sturdy. Mounting is easy and the bike rack section rotates out of the way when not in use. The bike lock when Transporting is another nice feature. Definitely would buy again.
Mostly, I love the rack. Fairly simple to install once you figure out heads and tails. No tools required. The minor downside I've experienced is getting the hooks initially into position, I have to actually pop my suv hatch to put the hooks on the sides and bottom. Aside from that, it's sturdy, holds my bikes securely and easy to use. Highly recommend
I just received my bike rack and I opened the box and was pleasantly surprised with the rack. I live in the Northeast and it is not biking weather and I did not place it on my car, but I love it and it is quality made and have no doubt it will fit my car and I will love it.
This bike rack shipped within a couple hours of me placing my order. When it arrived, it was exactly what was advertised. The videos on the website were helpful with the assembly and installation. I am very happy with my experience and the product.
Very sturdy and easy to install. Very happy with the product. Used 2x for 4 hour drives from Ithaca and back. Minor suggestion...provide thin rubber squares to place between strap hooks and vehicle for extra protection from possible scratching.
It's been great. It is easy to install on my SUV and remains very stable and secure when carrying bikes. I definitely recommend it.
Nice, solid bicycle rack(for 3 bikes).
Rack easily comes off my van and almost caused an accident when a bike came off.

When you initially installed the bike rack, were you able to physically wiggle the rack and did it have any displacement or movement?
This was a gift for a friend, but they love it. It was easy to install and easy to use. They carry their bikes up to the trails with no issues.

The rack fits securely to my Chevy Trax, and I really like that it will fold down against the vehicle when not in use. Because my bikes are size small, it takes some jockeying to get the rack arms inside the frames, but once on, the bikes arent going anywhere. Narrow road bikes would likely fit better than my hybrid and mountain bikes, but I am able to make it work. The rack is definitely strong enough to support the weight of three bikes safely. The only con is that the rack itself is fairly heavy for a short 67-year-old like me, but once in position, it simple to secure to my vehicle. I would recommend this rack for road bikes, and mountain bikes if you dont mind a tight fit.
