Note: The Derale Insta-dapt radiator adapter fits most vehicles with 5/16" transmission lines, but not all. In some cases, additional fittings or alteration of the OEM lines or hoses may be required for installation.


Perhaps the simplest type of heat exchanger, the tube-fin effectively cools a variety of automotive systems. The concept is simple: Fluid cools as it travels through the core by transferring heat out to the fins. The fins then provide the surface area necessary for sufficient heat exchange to take place, allowing the heat pulled from the fluid to dissipate into the surrounding air. Add to that the unique turbulator technology - whereby fluids are agitated continuously to not only facilitate heat transfer, but also to prevent any undesirable drop in pressure - and you have an easy and effective cooling system.

Video Transcript for Transmission Cooler Installation - 1999 Ford F-350

Today, on our 1999 Ford F-350 well be installing the Derale Series 7000 Tube-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part number d13105. To begin our install well first locate the transmission lines and the return line from the manufactures transmission cooler. After warming the vehicle up, we located the line here just in front of the engine. Our next step will be removing the front grill. To remove the front grill well remove the four fasteners across the top. There are two snap fasteners at the bottom, youll need to release the metal clip and once released we can remove the grill.

Well go ahead and set it aside for reinstallation later. Next, were going to go ahead and prepare the new transmission cooler. Well install the new hose supplied with the transmission cooler kit onto the top barb of the transmission cooler. To make it a little easier to install the hose onto the barb we will use a little transmission fluid as lubricant. Once we get the hose in place, well go ahead and take one of the clamps, slide it onto the hose and then secure it.

Now, well go ahead and set the transmission cooler in place. Well be using the rigid mount brackets to secure our transmission cooler. Well go ahead and line it up and mark where we need to fasten the first one. Note we can also cut these to length using a pair of tin snips. Now, that weve got it cut to length well go ahead and use the self-threading fasteners supplied with our install kit to secure the bracket to the vehicle here at the core support.

Now, with these brackets were able to bend as needed. Ill push it out and then flatten it out and secure it directly to the transmission cooler in one of the pre-drilled holes. Now, with one side done Im going to go ahead and repeat the same process on the opposite side, so that both top brackets are installed securing our cooler. Now, with the top two brackets securing the cooler well move underneath the vehicle and remove the old hose going into the steel line for the transmission return. To do this well remove the manufactures clamp and then remove the hose from the steel line.

Quick tech tip, I recommend to take a bolt and stick it in the end of the hose to assist in preventing additional loss of fluid. Now, with the old hose out of the way, well go ahead and take the new hose that we secured to the new cooler and route it back to the steel line. Here we can take a measurement, mark it and then cut the length as needed. Now with our hose cut, well go ahead and install it onto the steel line and secure it with the new clamp. Next, using the radiator adaptor as a coupling well install it into the old hose and secure it with the old clamp. Then, well take a new piece of hose and install it into the new adaptor. Secure it with a new clamp and then route it up to the cooler. Once again, well go ahead and measure and cut to length. Lube up the lower barb fitting of the new cooler and then install the hose under the cooler securing it with a new clamp. Now, with the hoses secured well go ahead and finish securing our transmission cooler with the brackets provided with our install kit. We can go ahead and reinstall the front grill and rock guard. With that, this will complete the install of the Derale Series 7000 Tube-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part number d13105 on our 1999 Ford F-350.

Product arrived as described. I have not installed yet because i see that i will need some additional hose, and the vehicle specific adapter for the radiator trans cooler. I bought this unit for my 2001 dodge ram 1500 in preparation for a cross country drive that i would be pulling a trailer. My truck was a gift but it has 151,000 miles on it and everything is original equipment. It still runs strong I want to keep it running as long as possible. I'm sure I will have to replace the transmission at some point, but if this small investment can keep me going for a few thousand extra miles I'm going to be happy. 122357

"02" F250 7.3 Super Duty I found the service from etrailer to be very satisfactory. The product arrived in good shape and on time. The on-line video was very helpful. Installing went smooth with one exception. As mentioned in many other on-line reviews, there was not enough hose supplied with the unit. While I had not problem with needing to purchase a small amount of hose, the package indicated that it was to be 5/16" ID. While the supplied hose was made in China and the walls of that hose where very flexible, the Gates hose, (made in the USA) was very rigid and would not go on the stud of the cooler, requiring a second trip to the Auto parts store to purchase 4' of 3/8" hose. A 12 mile round trip. Also, required the purchase of a knurled ended 5/16" hose connection and on qt. of tyranny fluid. Total added cost of $20.20. Have not towed with it installed yet. 435947

This is my 1st after market trans cooler and i was always under the impressuon to get the biggest one that will fit. This is the biggest one without any modification. Easy install installed between a/c confessor and existing stock trans cooler bracket. I bypassed the engine radiator all together so I'm running 2 coolers the stock one and D13105. It's installed on a lifted with 35in tires 2012 silverado 6.2l 4x4 6l80 trans with the tow package. It's May 22 and 93 degrees the avg every day running temp before install was 193 now my running temp is 142, I ccouldn't believe how much of a difference the cooler made. I haven't tried it in 4x4 yet but I'm sure it's going to be just as good. This coming weekend is memorial day so I'm planning a weekend on the beach going to do some off road 4x4 and for sure pulling some stuck people out of the sand. If i can post and update of temps from the weekend I will . 512325

Transmission cooler was a little larger than I needed I should've gone with a smaller one .had trouble fitting it in the suburban but we modify The suburban made it work. There was not enough transmission hose. So if you're install it in large vehicle need to get extra hose ,extra clams and tie wraps.
