Hub-Piloted Wheel

This wheel is hub piloted, which means that it centers on the hub, not the lugs. The wheel requires the use of flange nuts (sold separately) for installation.

Corrosion-Resistant Finish

The steel wheel goes through a 3-step finishing process that makes it both attractive and corrosion resistant. The wheel is first submerged in a zinc phosphate bath to ensure good paint adhesion. It is then e-coated with an acrylic primer base and finished on both sides with baked-on DuPont powder paint.

Provider Radials

Provider radials are constructed with double polyester cords and double steel belts for increased durability and endurance. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation. Provider radials are bake tested - a process usually reserved for automotive tires - to ensure that the rubber holds up over time.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Review of Taskmaster Trailer Tires and Wheels - Tire with Wheel - TA95ZR

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Taskmaster Provider 215/75R17.5 radial tire in a load range H and it's on the 17 1/2 inch silver modular wheel with an offset. Has an eight on 6 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now, this tire and wheel assembly's ideal for heavy-duty trucks and trailers. The wheel itself is a heavy-duty steel wheel.

And we mentioned it has the modular design and when we say modular design, that's the one that has these round holes all the way around the wheel. It is very sturdy and corrosion resistant. The wheel goes through a three-step finishing process, which will first include a zinc phosphate bath, then an e-coat primer, and then a nice, silver powder coat on both sides of the wheel. See the back and the front. Now, this is a hub-piloted wheel, which means it'll center on the hub, so it does require a close fit of the center hole to the hub.

This is the pilot hole. The pilot hole diameter on this is 4.76 inches. And also, hub-piloted wheels will require the use of flange nuts for installation. Those we do sell separately. The flange nut size that this requires is 5/8 inch by 18.

Now, this wheel does have a positive offset of .08 of an inch. This positive offset is when the hub mounting surface is in front of the wheel center line. And a positive offset will move the tire towards the center line of the trailer. Now, the tire on this is a radial tire. It is constructed with double steel belts, double polyester cords for a long life.

It's great for highway use. They do also use a nylon tread-firming belt overlay to help prevent tread separation. And this tire is baked tested to ensure that the rubber holds up over time. Now, this assembly is created specifically for heavy-duty trucks and trailers. It's not intended for use on any other vehicles. The assembly meets the DOT, which is Department of Transportation specifications, and it will exceed the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Few dimensions on this, we're gonna zoom in again. The diameter of the wheel will always be measured inside to inside. So, from the inside here to the inside over here, this is gonna be 17 1/2 inches. The width of just the wheel by itself is gonna be 6 3/4 inches wide. And the bolt pattern on this wheel, if you notice, it is an eight lug. So, it's an eight on 6 1/2 inch bolt pattern. And if you want to measure that on a wheel that's an even number of lugs, in this case, eight, it's pretty easy because the lug holes are directly across from each other. So, all you have to do is pick any set of holes. Let's say, this one and measure from the center of this hole directly across to the center of the hole right across from it. It'll measure 6 1/2 inches. So, that means this is an eight on 6 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Wheel capacity on this wheel, just the wheel is 6,005 pounds. Now, the tire size will be stamped on here. And if we just go around here, you can see it's 215/75R17.5. The R designates that it is a radial design tire. Section width is gonna be right at 8.3 inches. Overall diameter, from the bottom to the top when this tire's inflated is 30.2 inches. And this tire is a load range H, which means it's a 16-ply rated tire. So, the maximum load on this is 4,805 pounds at 123 psi. And the maximum speed on this, most all the new tires are coming through with speed ratings now. And on this one, let me see if we can find where it's listed right after the size we just went over. If you look, it'll say speed rating of 81 miles per hour, which is a speed rating M. But that should do it for the review on the Taskmaster Provider 215/75R17.5 radial tire in a load range H on this 17 1/2 inch silver modular wheel with an offset and an eight on 6 1/2 inch bolt pattern..

Review from a similar Provider Mod Radial in Trailer Tires and Wheels

Very good price for a trailer tire with actual tread. My Gulfstream Vintage Cruiser stock tires look good but had NO safety margin capacity. So I upgraded to 15" tires n wheels. But one problem is the mounting of the tires on the rims. They were not aligned correctly as received according to the red and yellow "dots" on the tires in relation to the valve stem. I brought it up to my tire place. They repositioned them and then the spin balance was close. Only .75 on one wheel and 1.5 oz on the other wheel.

One wheel was all scratched up at arrival, not real sure being powder coated is worth the extra price if spots are bare metal.

  • Does Changing Tire and Wheel Size on a Camper Trailer Change How High or Low the Camper Sits
It can make your trailer sit higher or lower compared to what tire size you are currently using and what tire size you are changing to, but it won't be that big of a difference. Whether or not the trailer sits higher or lower really just depends on what tire size you are looking at getting. If your current tire size is the same as the Kenda Karrier # AM10295 tire that you referenced, which is ST235/85R16, then your axles of your trailer should sit about 15.85 inches above the ground. • Recommended Spare Tire For LT 215/85R16 Tires
For a spare tire on a trailer, you will want to use the same exact size tire if not the same exact brand and style. For your LT 215/85R16, I recommend a same diameter wheel because we don't carry that specific size. You of course will need to match your bolt pattern and have a pilot hole large enough to pass over your hub. Your current tires have a 30.38 inch outer diameter. The Westlake 215/75R17.5 Radial Tire w 17-1/2" Lynx Aluminum Wheel # LHAS701 are intended for wheel bolt size 9/16-18 with an 8 on 6-1/2 inch bolt pattern. These wheels with that bolt pattern and wheel bolt size are rated for 4,805 lbs at 123 psi. The 5/8 inch bolts you are referring to are a stronger bolt, but will not work with these wheels based on the wheel design. That change is not required based on the wheel design or weight. If you want the 5/8 inch wheel bolts, then I recommend...
