Ellen: Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com, and today we're taking a look at the LED transit tail light. This allows you to have a nice large amber lights to make it clear what's going on with your vehicle, making any kind of stops and turns and signal appropriately to other vehicles out on the road. This is an amber light, so typically going to be used as a clearance light, or a turn signal. It has 17 diodes, it is an LED light. The nice thing about having an LED light versus your typical older style incandescent bulb is that you don't really have to worry about any kind of maintenance with this light. The diodes last for a very long time, there's no bulbs to break and then have to change out over time. It also has a lower power draw, or power requirement, from our battery.
So we're going to have as bright or brighter a light that has similar incandescent bulb without pulling as much power from our battery. So it helps that battery to last a little bit longer, or we can put more lights on our rig if we want to, and be able to get everything illuminated. There's two wires to connect. One of them is going to be a bullet style connector, so if you have a plug to wire that into, you can use that, or you can always just cut it off and use a butt connector, just depends on your setup. And then the white wire, which is our ground, has a little ring terminal already installed. So that's one less thing to do.I'm going to connect it to my power source here.
You can see that light comes on. Turn out the studio lights so you get a better idea of how this looks even in the dark. So nice bright light, gives us that amber color that we're used to for our clearance signal, or our running lights and turn signals. The housing is sealed so it should keep out any kind of weather, water, dirt, and debris, and things like that. Take this off and we can disconnect it and look a little bit closer.
The diameter of this light is about seven inches overall, and then it's about one and a half inches thick. One thing, I'm not super thrilled about the construction of this. So there's not really a good place for this wiring to go, there's no notch in this. It does have this foam gasket, or this foam pad at the back, so that provides a little bit of a cushion, but it doesn't really give you a solid place for that to go. So it might squish the wire, especially at a place where there's this little ridge here. So if you really wanted to, you could maybe cut a little notch in that with a razor knife ,or a dribble tool or something like that to create a little slot for it.
If you want to, that's just one little bitty critique I have of the light. Other than that, I think it's pretty solid. There's also some potting material in here to help take up any gaps in the circuit board that helps those circuits to last longer, provides a little bit of shock resistance. Anything that's on the road is going to be going under some vibration, so having that potting material is going to help this light lasts a lot longer overall, so it really should be a nice solid unit for many years to come.It does not come with any hardware to attach it so you will need to get some screws or nuts and bolts. The diameter of that hole is about a quarter of an inch, so you should be good with quarter-inch hardware, or three sixteenths. It has a total of 17 diodes, a limited lifetime warranty, and it is a polycarbonate lens and housing. That lens is going to be amber, and there are white LEDs on the inside. That's pretty much all there is to it for this light. I hope this has been helpful in deciding if this is the right light for you. We do have a red and also white version of this same light available here at etrailer.com, so check those out if you're interested. Or if this doesn't work for you, we do have a lot of other options available, so check them out right here at etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..
