Double-Eye Spring

Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The leaf springs provide the attachment points for your trailer's axle, suspending it from the frame of your trailer. Each spring flexes to absorb road shock as you travel, allowing the axle to move somewhat independently of the rest of your trailer. This helps to reduce wear and tear on the trailer and also ensures a smooth ride.

Double-eye leaf springs attach to hangers that are welded onto your trailer. One end of this spring will attach directly to the hanger with a suspension bolt. The other end will attach to shackle straps that are suspended from a hanger. These straps allow the spring to move and pivot so that it can better compensate for uneven pavement. If you have a tandem- or triple-axle trailer, the shackle straps will be attached to the equalizer that connects multiple springs.

To mount this spring, you will need hangers, shackle straps, and suspension bolts. If you are simply replacing a spring, you may still have hangers welded onto your trailer. You should, however, replace your shackle straps because they are usually the first component to wear out. You may choose to replace old suspension bolts as well. It is recommended that you replace the other leaf spring in your setup at the same time. Because springs can sag and elongate as they wear, this new spring may not exactly match the old one, and the alignment of your trailer could be affected.

If you are fabricating a trailer, you will need to purchase a hanger kit for installation. To determine the type of hanger kit that you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring that you have, as well as your axle capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications. Hangers and other suspension components can also be purchased separately if there isn't a complete kit that works for your setup.

These springs have made all the difference for me with my trailer. I have a 2013 Keystone Ultralite Bullet and once I upgraded to these springs any issues that I had with my brakes along with my slide have all but disappeared. I am so grateful to the etrailer staff for all their support in helping me get the best springs for me.

by:

I purchased 2 of these because one of the leaf springs broke on one side of my trailer. It was a perfect fit.

by:

Awesome, broke both rear leaf springs (mono leaf ) when we pulled in to the campground. I searched for something to upgrade from the weak mono leafs . I have the wide stance axles on my camper so I needed 30 inch springs . E-Trailer was the only place that had the upgrade that could hold the weight . I ordered the springs at 4:11 pm and they shipped that same afternoon. And no not just a label created they were actually picked up by ups that same day . Once they arrived and were installed I couldn’t believe the difference they made . Now the camper rides at the correct height. E-Trailer is definitely my go to place for parts .

by:

Great product very friendly and prompt staff. The delivery system of UPS was bad took 4 days longer than expected. They had no problem getting on the phone with UPS and resolving the issue, highly recommend etrailer!!

  • What is Difference Between 6-leaf vs 4-leaf 5,000 lb Trailer Axle Leaf Springs
One of the biggest differences between the 6-leaf 5,000 lb trailer axle leaf spring part # UG34FR and the 4-leaf part # e44SR is the length. The 6-leaf setup is 30 inches long and the 4-leaf setup is 25-1/4 inches long. In general though the number of leaves doesn't affect ride quality or performance to a noticeable degree but when there's more leaves you end up with a taller trailer ride height if the spring is mounted above the axle.

  • How To Determine the Correct Replacement Trailer Leaf Springs For Your Trailer
For new leaf springs for your 2019 Grand Design Solitude 5th Wheel you'll need to know the axle capacity and measure the leaf springs to find the correct replacement. I've attached some diagrams below for both double-eye and slipper spring style leaf springs. I'll need measurement A for both spring types. For example, If you had a 5k axle capacity and a 30" eyelet to eyelet measurement on a double-eye leaf spring then you could use part # UG34FR. If you can get me some more info on what...

  • Replacement Leaf Springs for a 2007 Jayco Eagle 314BHDS
Hey Vaughn, thanks for reaching out! What do your leaf springs measure when they don't have a load on them? You'll need to measure center-to-center for the eyes when you have the trailer lifted by the frame. Your 2007 Jayco should have something like 5,000 lb axle so you should be able to use either the 4-Leaf # SP-218275 that measures 25-1/4" long, or the 6-Leaf # UG34FR that measures 30" long, but you'll need to verify the weight rating and length with what you currently have to ensure...

  • Determining The Correct Replacement Leaf Spring For A 2014 Keystone Cougar 5th Wheel Trailer
There unfortunately isn't a guide to tell us what size leaf springs are used on your 2014 Keystone Cougar 5th wheel but it's very easy to determine. You'll first need to loosen the lug nuts on one of the wheels and then jack that side of the trailer up to take the weight off of the leaf springs. You can then remove the wheel and you'll need a tape measure to measure from center to center of the leaf spring eyelets. You can just measure from center to center of the bolt heads instead of...

  • Availability of 30 Inch Eye to Eye 6 Leaf Leaf Springs
We've just added the UNA-022 to our website using part # UG34FR. The springs have a 2500 lb capacity each or a 5000 lb per axle. The axle mounting hardware will depend on the diameter of your axle. I've linked to the U-bolt kits we offer.

  • Are The 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 5,000-lb Trailer Axles # UG34FR Sold Individually?
The 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 5,000-lb Trailer Axles # UG34FR is for a single spring. You will need to order a quantity of 2 to replace both springs on your single axle trailer. Each spring is rated for 2,500lbs for a total capacity of 5,000lbs for the trailer on a single axle. Be sure to check your current U-Bolts as you may need a new CE Smith U-Bolt Kit # CE23003 when you replace the leaf springs. This kit includes the u-bolts, nuts and u-bolt plates for both sides of your axle.

  • Can I Use a 30 Leaf Spring to Replace a 29-1/2 Leaf Spring?
You can use the 30" Long 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 5,000-lb Trailer Axles item # UG34FR in place of a 29-1/2" leaf spring but you may need to modify your suspension or get a shorter equalizer. If you have a tandem axle trailer you should be ok but you may run into the spring hanger mount in the center. You can fix this buy getting a shorter equalizer or shackle straps. If you have a single axle trailer you will need to move your spring mounts.

  • Do You Have a 31" Double Eye Single Leaf Spring For a 2020 Keystone Premier 29BHPR?
The 30" Leaf Spring # UG34FR you found is our longest leaf spring. This is a much heavier spring rated for a 5,000lb trailer axle so it would not be feasible to go with that heavy of a spring due to making for a very harsh ride. You may be able to find the correct spring size at a local trailer shop as they often carry a variety of sizes

  • Looking For 36" Long Double Eye Leaf Spring
Hello Steve, thanks for reaching out. We do carry a lot of double-eye leaf springs, but I am sorry to say that we do not offer anything 36" long. In fact, we do not have anything even close to that size. Our largest double eye spring is the # UG34FR which is 30" long for a 5,000 lb axle. Since you are replacing the springs on just one side, you will need to find a direct match for the current springs. The only solution I can offer you would be to replace the springs on both sides and this...

  • Availability of 30 inch Trailer Leaf Spring

  • Replacement For 30 Inch Trailer Leaf Springs
The only option we have for leaf springs that are 30 inches are the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 5,000-lb Trailer Axles - 30" Long # UG34FR. Nothing else comes particularly close in length either, as our next longest is 27 inches. These are rated for 5k axles so they will be stiffer than you need, but it's the only thing I know of in that length.

  • Is There a Double Eye Leaf Spring That Measures 30-3/4" Long
I do have some options for you but I just want to make sure you're measuring correct first, you should be doing so with the leaf springs unloaded and it's also important to note that leaf springs stretch over time as they wear so the new replacements are likely shorter. In regards to the number of leaves, this isn't really relevant as they can have different thicknesses which is why it's best to go off the axle capacity. That said, the only thing close we have is 30", the 6-Leaf Double-Eye...

  • Should Longer or Shorter Shackle Straps Be Used When Replacement Leaf Spring is Shorter
First, make sure that this spring isn't actually the correct length. If you measured 31" on worn out leaf springs you don't need to change anything outside of replacing the leaf spring itself. If you made the # UG34FR completely flat it would be 32-3/4" long so if it was a little worn a 31" measurement would be easy to get. If your existing leaf springs were 31" when new then it is possible you will need longer shackle straps. Something like the Shackle Strap - 2-3/4" Long # TRSL275 should...

  • Availability Of A 31-1/4 Long Double Eye Leaf Spring
I am sorry but we do not carry a 31-1/4" long double eye leaf spring. The closest we have is # UG34FR which is a 30" long 6-leaf spring for a 5,000 lb axle. Leaf springs can flex up to 1" when under a load, and your springs do look a bit on the worn side. So it is possible your springs were flexed slightly when you measured. The # UG34FR may come close to fitting, but it would not be a direct replacement by any means. Unfortunately this is the longest double eye leaf spring that we carry.

  • 5k Axle Trailer Leaf Spring Recommendation to Replace 31 inch Spring
Yes, the 5k leaf spring part # UG34FR that is 30 inches would work to replace a worn out 31 inch spring as long as the current spring is 1-3/4 inches wide.
