Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

3's a charm. The first one received was out of round giving the tire a "hop". Etrailer was quick to get me a second one that happened to bent. They were quick to respond again and had the 3rd wheel checked by a local tire shop before send it. The wheel mounted a balance fine and seems well made. Etrailer did everything right in taking care of the issues. Thank you.

by:

Placed the order and they arrive pretty quick , the powder coating looks great. I had put after market artillery wheels on my Airstream trailer that were not rated for the weight had hair line cracks leaking . Getting ready to put some miles on the 59 Airstream and did not want to have any problems these wheels are going to look great with the chrome hub caps.

by:

These rims are perfect replacement if you're restoring an older airstream. Also baby moon hubcaps look perfect. Great match to the original equipment. The best thing is I won't have to try to search for 14.5 tires in the future because these rims are 15-in

The cost was the cheapest I found, yet the quality of the product was outstanding. I was surprised to find the shipping was free, which made this purchase and excellent deal from all aspects. I will look for more great deals with etrailer.com.

by:

After searching for steel wheels with vintage style caps, I purchased these wheels after speaking with the customer support people, that assured me the caps would fit and these would fit my Airstream, I bought these along with the Cone style caps, I had them powder coated the color we wanted, they turned out great, and great customer service.

by:

Good stuff

by:

I replaced all 4 split rims on my 63 Airstream with these. They are a perfect replacement and they even fit the cone shaped metal hub caps. Look and preform wonderfully.

by:

The rims were timely, well packaged, and exactly what I needed.

by:

Wheel is better than I expected.

by:

The wheels look very nice and came to me quickly, I'm very pleased!

by:

The service was excellent and the merchandise was quickly delivered. I recommend this site for top quality merchandise .

Very fast delivery and great service. Perfect fit for my 1962 air stream

by:

nice wheel! Looks great, customer is super happy! Great price too! i have saved your web site as we will be back in the future. Thank you for such a great product.

by:

Very happy with product and appearance. Bought this as a spare to match my original wheels on my '58 Chevy Apache. I haven't gotten a flat yet so I haven't actually used it but it does fit well, looked good out of the box and was as described. I have recommended it to other classic car/truck owners.

by:

These wheels are a perfect match for my 1963 Airstream travel trailer. Received wheels quickly with no damage. An added bonus, I was also supporting a Missouri Local company. I will definitely be supporting this company in the future.

I bought three Dexstar-made 15 x 6 inch 6-bolt on 5.5" bolt pattern steel rims - all received in excellent condition. Each rim has a 2,600 lbs weight rating appropriate for a 5,000 lbs rated trailer. These rims are of the "standard-style stamped steel type" common to most non-mag wheel type trailer wheels. As such, they look, fit, and accept wheel covers like all the other steel rims produced since the mid-sixties. This may be an advantage for users that have several trailers or farm wagons i.e. the rims will interchange.
Rims were primed (inner part covered by the tire). Exposed parts of the rim including the rim flanges and bead seats were thoroughly and perfectly painted (powder coating, no paint runs). All rims fitted tightly on the axles without any loose play. Each rim had a DOT stamp with size, series, and load rating in lbs clearly indicated.
When assembling trailer axles, using new rims is better than buying used rims from scrap yards. Used rims may have been overloaded, bent, rusted and rarely do they have any labeling certifying their weight ratings. I highly recommend these Dexstar rims.

Fits fine on my 12 inch drum brakes and axle from Dexter. Looks like a high quality part. Made in USA.

Comments
Perfect fit on 12 drum brakes!

by:

Well made, hard to find wheel. I would buy again.

by:

After having several local tire stores along with RV and auto service locations being unable to find replacement wheels for my travel trailer I took it upon myself to find the wheels. I believe I had them located within two minutes on your website. The wheels were ordered, delivered in 3 days, and were a perfect match. Also, much to everyone's surprise and to my liking they were made in the USA. They balanced perfectly and I am so glad that I found a good supplier.

  • What is the Offset for Dexstar Conventional Steel Trailer Wheel, # AM20514
The Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel, # AM20514, that you have referenced has a zero offset. This rim is 15 inches by 6 inches and has a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern. It accepts bolt size 1/2 Inch-20 and has a pilot diameter of 3.65. If this matches your existing wheels on your 2004 Airstream trailer then this rim will fit. I have included a link to an FAQ article on how to determine bolt pattern for reference. The article covers a couple of different methods for determining bolt pattern. I...

  • Can I Use A Passenger Vehicle Wheel In Place of Trailer Wheel on Nomad Tandem Trailer
I cannot recommend using a vehicle wheel in place of a trailer wheel for any period of time. Passenger vehicle wheels are not manufactured the same as trailer wheels and not made to handle loads like trailer wheels. To determine which wheel you will need, you will have to measure the bolt pattern of your Nomad trailer (see FAQ). You will also need to measure the diameter of the wheel and the correct replacement tire size.

  • Determining the Correct Wheels for a Trailer
In order to obtain the correct wheel replacement you will need to know your bolt pattern and tire size you prefer. Your pilot hole measurement of 3-9/16 inches you referenced is a good start and I included a link to all the wheels we currently offer. If your wheels are hub-centric, you would want new wheels with the same pilot hole diameter as your current wheels because the wheels must center on the hub bore. If the pilot hole is larger, then the wheel will not stay centered on the hub...

  • Backspacing of Dexstar AM20514 Conventional 15 x 6 Steel Wheel
The Dexstar Steel Conventional wheel you referenced, part # AM20514 has a 0 offset, which means that the hub plate or mounting pad is centered along the 6 inch width of the wheel. Half the width of the wheel is 3 inches, plus the distance from the inboard bead seat to the back edge of the rim, which is about 1/2 of an inch, which would make the backspacing at right about 3-1/2 inches.

  • Are Trailer Wheels Marked for Where to Mount Trailer Tires
Yes they are marked with the red dot for the radial run out. If you took the wheel to a shop to have them mounted they would know where to put the tire on the rim # AM20514. Typically the yellow dot indicates the point on the tire that SHOULD be mounted next to the valve stem for the best balance. The red dot is the uniformity mark. As well as not being able to manufacture perfectly weighted tires, it's also nearly impossible to make a tire which is perfectly circular. Every tire has...

  • Typical Wobble with Conventional Steel Trailer Wheel
If the new steel trailer wheel itself, not the tire, has a 3/32-inch out-of-true wobble as it rotates this can be considered within normal tolerance. Conventional steel wheels like # AM20514 are die-formed so they will have some dimensional variance. With that said, do note that a wheel can display irregularity at its outer lip but still be true at the bead seat where the tire mounts. That needs to be true but the outer lip of the wheel does not. On the other hand, if you were talking...

The Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel # AM20514 can be used on a passenger vehicle, assuming that the hubs on your Land Cruiser have 6 lugs on a 5-1/2 inch bolt circle and the studs are 1/2 inch in diameter. The wheel has a pilot diameter of 3.65 inches. The wheel has a zero offset, which means that the mounting pad that rests against the hub is centered on the width of the wheel. A positive offset wheel moves the tire closer to the vehicle, while a negative offset moves the tire further away.

We offer four sizes of trailer wheel with the 6-on-5-1/2-inch bolt pattern: 14-1/2-, 15-, 16- and 16-1/2-inch. Some of these do have a pilot hole diameter that matches your, such as Dexstar wheel # AM20514 which measures 15 x 6. This wheel has a pilot hole of 3.65-inches. You do not want to use a wheel whose pilot hole is larger than the hub center. This would put too much weight load on the studs themselves.
