Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Promptly shipped and received. Minor problem, the bearings, nuts, dust cover and seal were all just thrown loose in the box with the hub resulting in the seal being bent and unuseable. No big deal. Otherwise great service.

what drum and hub assy do i need to convert my house tralier axles to use regular tires and wheels? im having trouble finding tires for them. bearing, outside 1.25, inside 1.75, 2 brake drum, 5 or 6 holes wheel.

Most mobile home axles are built with an odd sized spindle that do not have any available hubs with a traditional trailer wheel bolt pattern. The only want to be sure is to either get the bearing numbers off the old bearings or to measure the spindle diameters with a dial or digital caliper, at least to the 1/100th. Bearing numbers is by far the easiest. Check out the link to the spindle below. There is a diagram that shows the measurements that you will need to take in order to positively determine whether or not a hub is available.

  • Will 1/2 Inch Wheel Studs Fit Dexter Hub 8-219-4UC3-EZ?
If you measured the stud size on your hub and drum assembly and they measured 1/2 inch then they may work with the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-219-4UC3-EZ, which also uses 1/2 inch wheel studs. The fact they are both 1/2" does not necessarily mean they will thread onto the new studs as they may be different thread pitches. Keep in mind those are for E-Z Lube axles so if you did not have those you could also use the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-219-4UC3. You will...

  • Lug Nuts Shearing off Hub and Drum of 7,000 lb Dexter Axle
I can only make a guess and can't know for certain, but generally speaking, the two main reasons that lug nuts shear off is that they are overtightened - though you can rule that out if you are sure they were torqued to the manufacturer's specs - or that your wheels have elongated, wider holes. This would make the wheel have excessive movement on the lug nut and cause enough vibration for it to shear off. If you need to replace the hub and drum on your 7,000 lb Dexter axle you can use...

  • What Size Wheel Center Hole Will Fit on Trailer Hub 8-219-4UC3
The pilot hole on a wheel would have to be 4.75 inches or larger. It can be larger because this hub uses lug nuts to secure and center the wheel on the hub (lugcentric). If it just had holes for wheel bolts (hubcentric) then the pilot hole would have to be exact.

  • The Correct Amount to Tighten the Nut on an Axle Spindle
There is one way to properly tighten a spindle when installing axle parts. Ensure that all parts are full seated. Tighten the nut on end of spindle until there is resistance when you try to turn the wheel, then back up nut the least amount possible in order to install cotter pin - usually 1/8 turn. I have attached an article which throughly explains the reassemble of spindle parts, and a video which (at the 5 minute mark) shows a spindle nut being tightened and turned back.

  • Do New Trailer Hubs Have to Have Matching Lug Nut Size as Old Hubs

  • How to Pick Out a Hub and Drum to Go to a Different Bolt Pattern
Yes, you can go to a hub with a different bolt pattern as long as you match everything up. You will need to make sure the bearing numbers are the same and that your brake assemblies are the same size. The Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-219-4UC3 that you referenced uses inner bearing number 25580, outer bearing number 14125A and is designed for 12 inch by 2 inch brake assemblies. You should note that going to a hub with a higher towing capacity does not necessarily give you more overall...

  • Replacement Axle Recommendation for a Mobile Home Trailer
Mobile home axles are designed for one time use and because of that we don't offer replacement hubs that will fit them since the spindles are usually very unique. Best option would be to go with a new axle. I attached a page that has all of the replacement axles we offer. You would want to go with the ones that are the closest in dimension and weight capacity as what you currently have/need.

  • Proper Way to Tighten Trailer Spindle of Castle Nut
After you've packed the bearings and assembled everything, carefully slide the hub assembly onto the spindle and install the outer bearing. Install the spindle and tang washer and run the spindle nut down finger tight, then rotate the hub back and forth then rock the hub side to side to make sure everything is seated properly. This will have had provided more room on the spindle, so run down the spindle nut with your fingers a bit more. The hub should spin freely, with a bit of brake lining...

  • Tightness Recommendation for Castle Nut on Trailer Hub
I'd go on the tighter side of what you mentioned where there's no play yet you can still spin the wheel several times on one push. You might put your hand on the hub to feel if it's getting overly warm next trip you take but I believe that's the best spot you'll have.

  • Should Trailer Bearings Spin on the Spindle they are Installed On
When installed properly the portion of the bearing that attaches to the spindle should not spin. Only the outer portion should be spinning. It's pretty easy to overtighten a spindle nut since they don't have to be very tight so that would be the most likely situation. When our installers replace a trailer hub, there isn't a set torque spec used when tightening the spindle nut. The hub is placed on the spindle, making sure the inner and outer bearings are correctly seated. The spindle...

  • How to Determine Correct Hub & Drum For Heavy Trailer
I can point you in the right direction in regards to determining the correct hub and drum for your heavy 14,250 lb trailer, but we would not have any way of identifying the exact hub for your 1995 Trailmax. So there are a number of things you'll need to know to get the right hub; first, you need to know the weight rating of your axle, and also what bearings your current hub has. You will need to take apart your current hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease...

If your axle castle nuts are backing off and shearing the cotter pin then this extreme force could be coming from one or more possible causes. I suggest you check your rear axle tire treads for signs of uneven wear. If you notice more wear on the inside edges of the tires this could indicate any of several possible root causes, an overloaded axle, damaged axle or bent spindles. Any one of these conditions could result in wheel misalignment. This condition could in turn lead to excessive...

It is hard for me to say with absolute certainty, but most likely the part # 8-219-4UC3 would work for your 5,200 lb Dexter axle since this hub is designed to fit most 5,200 lb Dexter axles. But the only way to verify this would be to either pull your hubs and measure the spindles or get the bearing numbers. This is especially true since you said your outer bearing is a different number than what the # 8-219-4UC3 has. A lot of times the 4,800 and 5,200 axles are the same with the only...
