E-Z Lube-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • What is Required to Change the Bolt Pattern on Trailer Hubs
To change your hub bolt pattern will require you to change hubs to one that has the bolt pattern you need. You will need to know what spindle you have on your trailer. In order to do that you can either get the inner and outer bearing numbers from a hub or use a dial or digital caliper to get exact measurements of the spindle. The measurements needed are the parts of the spindle where the bearings ride. If you get back to me with that information I will help you pick out the right hub...

  • How To Upgrade a Dexter D60 Axle To Use 8 on 6-1/2 Inch Hubs
In order to upgrade to the 8 on 6-1/2" lug pattern on your Dexter D60 Axle you will need to use the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # 8-219-4UC3-EZ or the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # 42866UC3-EZ. The former uses a 2.125" grease seal whereas the latter uses a 2.25" grease seal. • Will a Dexter Trailer Hub Fit on a Lippert Trailer Axle
Many times Dexter hubs will fit on a Lippert axle, but Lippert does have a few axles out there with special spindle sizes. Every Lippert axle comes with a tag or plate on the axle that gives a serial number or NV number. If you can give me that number, I can tell you what parts you will need. Otherwise, if you could not find that tag, you can simply select a hub by matching the bearing and grease seal part numbers from your existing hub. The part numbers for the bearings are usually stamped...

I wasn't able to find anything relating to that part number and since you're unsure of what you have I'd just recommend swapping the entire hub to make everything easier. You're just going to need to choose the hubs that have your current wheel studs. For 1/2" studs with a grease cap you'll want # 8-219-4UC3, For 1/2" studs with an E-Z lube cap you'll want # 8-219-4UC3-EZ, For 1/2" studs with an oil bath hub you'll want # 8-219-9UC3, For 9/16" studs with a grease cap you'll want # AKHD-865-7-1-K, For...

  • Lug Nuts Shearing off Hub and Drum of 7,000 lb Dexter Axle
I can only make a guess and can't know for certain, but generally speaking, the two main reasons that lug nuts shear off is that they are overtightened - though you can rule that out if you are sure they were torqued to the manufacturer's specs - or that your wheels have elongated, wider holes. This would make the wheel have excessive movement on the lug nut and cause enough vibration for it to shear off. If you need to replace the hub and drum on your 7,000 lb Dexter axle you can use...
