Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Good quality hubs. As stated by other reviewers, THE CAP SIMPLY WILL NOT FIT!! I was soooo hoping I could just manipulate them on there, but absolutely not. Had to put the old caps back on, and now need to find new ones elsewhere. - I replaced the hubs that were on a small 6.5x12 atv/utv trailer - a Diamond C. (WHY on earth they used 5 on 5 hubs instead of the easier found 5 on 4.5 hubs is beyond me. But, is what it is.) You will need to re-use your castle nut and whatever it is pinned in....either a clip or get a new cotter pin, along with using the existing washer from your other unit. THE RACES ARE ALREADY INSTALLED IN THE NEW HUB. This was helpful. The bearings need to be packed, along with putting the seal in the rear - no big deal. I will not necessarily be using this trailer in water - however, next time I will spend the few more dollars and get the galvanized hubs. Also has a complete set of small lug nuts. I just kept those for emergencies, and replaced with my long stainless steel lugs. My order from etrailer came a day ahead, for which I was EXTREMELY GRATEFUL. Had to change hubs outside - no garage - and as soon as I was done, it started snowing. AND I used etrailer's red grease, UltraLube L10320. 721491

Great hubs would have given 5 stars but hub grease caps are so tight the centers were concave by the time I got them on using a rubber mallet to be as gentle as possible. Overall highly recommended to anyone building from scratch or just changing bolt pattern like myself. Dexter is a high quality product. I chose to use Bel-Ray waterproof marine grease and packed everything full. My trailer sees lots of abuse and is not stored under cover + I live in the Pacific Northwest. Lots of rain. Only takes about a half hour to grease and install if you have everything ready to go. As in old hubs removed and spindles cleaned up. 796424

I ordered two hubs from here! The website could not have been any easier to use, they almost instantly email me back saying they received my email and they will be shipping out right away. I chose the normal delivery because I was not in that big of a hurry, they upgraded me to the 2 or 3 day at no extra cost!! Emailed me again saying it left and then followed up making sure I got the product. I could not have asked for better service, I will definitely be ordering through them again!!!! 761926

I built a utility trailer with my son from a 10K weigh capacity boat trailer and wanted to finish it properly. Bearings, hubs and drums arent an area to skimp on when building a trailer but where does a person find the RIGHT replacement parts. My local hardware and big box stores offer off brand replacement parts but of what quality and I'm still guessing as to proper replacement. I called etrailer and boy am I glad I had a micrometer handy. Their customer service walked me through all measurements and I'm assured the best quality products that will stand the test of time. I am grateful for their expertise and assured of quality. Thank you 726070

  • Replacement Trailer Hub Assembly for Dexter 8-248 Hubs
The Dexter "8-248" is a hub assembly for 3,500 lb axles that uses an L68149 inner bearing and a L44649 outer bearing. This hub assembly was offered in both 5 on 4-1/2" and 5 on 4-3/4" bolt patterns therefore you would need to confirm your bolt pattern in order to choose the correct hub. I have attached a help article to help you find this as well. I have also attached my recommendations on each hub for you below. Dexter: 5 on 4-1/2" - part # 84545BX 5 on 4-3/4" - part # 845475UC1

  • Can 3,500 Lb Hub be Used to Replace 2,000 Lb Hub with Same Size Bearings
Technically yes, if you were replacing idler hubs, as long as the inner/outer bearing, grease seal AND wheel bolt pattern match, there's nothing that prevents you from using a 3,500 lb axle hub, like # 84545BX on a 2,000 lb axle. If the bearings and seal match but the bolt pattern is different, you would also need new wheels to make the hub compatible. That being said, the only 2,000 lb hubs that we carry which would use the same inner/outer bearings and grease seal as a standard 3,500...

  • How to Select Correct Replacement Hub for Forest River Rockwood MiniLite 1909S Travel Trailer
The specs for the 2018 Forest River Rockwood MiniLite 1909S single axle travel trailer indicate that it has electric brakes on its axle. This means that an idler hub such as # 84545BX, which is intended for trailers without brakes, would not be an appropriate spare if that is your intention. If your MiniLite is a different model year it may have different spindles. To select the correct replacement hub/drum for your braked axle application you'll want to pull a hub and find the part...
