Looking For Replacement Idler Hub For Old Farm Trailer

Updated 11/21/2024 | Published 11/20/2024

Question:

I have an old farm trailer Im working on that has hubs stamped Dexter 8-243. Ive found similar questions answered, but the bearing numbers dont match up. This hub at least mine, anyway uses an LM67048 1-1/4 outer bearing and a L68149 1-3/8 inner bearing. The hubs and wheels have been modified looks like someone welded the clamps to the wheels and some extra steel to the wheels to make the 14inch rims fit, and dont feel that will be safe for road use. Do you offer any non-braking hubs with a more modern 4/5/6 lug pattern that use that bearing combination?

Hey Steve, thanks for reaching out. We currently offer only one hub that uses the # LM67048 outer bearing and # L68149 inner bearing, and that is the Dexter # 8-407-5UC3-EZ which is a hub and drum assembly. It has the 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern which is standard. We do not offer a non-braking hub that uses this bearing combination so the only way to use this hub would be if you installed brakes.

A lot of older trailers use spindle sizes or bearing combinations that are not standard anymore and it sounds like this is the case with your trailer. In these cases the next step would be to look at replacing the axle entirely.
