This has been the perfect bike trailer for my e-bike. We also can strap on beach chairs to free up space in the car for more toys. The fact that the main center post folds down is huge… there’s no way that I could lift my bike up and over it like other trailers require.
This is a nice hitch for our 2017 Mini Countryman, HOWEVER, the installation instructions leave a lot to be desired. Also, the plastic rivets that were provided with the installation instructions are not the right size for the job (should be 5mm rivets). The rivet heads extend beyond the recess area in the wheel wells. Here are some of the other issues:
1. Step 3 should read: Remove 3 fasteners in the right wheel well and 2 fasteners in the left wheel well. (8mm screw and 11mm nuts).
2. Step 5 should read: Remove (2) 10mm bolts from each tail light assembly. Remove access panel on each side of the rear cargo area. Turn (2) tab assemblies counterclockwise. Carefully remove tail light from vehicle and unclip electrical harness.
3. Step 8 should read: Raise the hitch into position using studs to align. Mark the exhaust heat shield where hitch receiver comes into contact. Remove the hitch assembly and cut a square notch into the heat shield (use tin snips or Dremel tool and round the corners) so the hitch assembly will slide all the way forward into place.
When reinstalling all parts in reverse order, the two rear fascia fasteners closest to the receiver will not be able to be reinstalled because the heat shield will have been pushed slightly forward. Remove the clips and install zip ties (2) on either side from the fascia to the heat shield.
When installing the plastic rivets for the wheel trim, it is easier to remove the tire so as to pull the rivets straight instead of at an angle.
All nuts and bolts that were removed should be reinstalled using medium strength, blue, thread locker similar to what is on all bolt and nut assemblies prior to removal.
After all of that, this is a nice quality hitch.
This hitch installed easier than the 10 difficulty it was given. Figuring out how to remove the tail lights was most trouble. The hitch required no trimming on my Countryman S and the drop tube fit between the heat shield and the bumper sensors for hatch opening. I would recommend buying a plastic pop rivet gun to use with the rivets that put the plastic wheel arches back in with.
Fits as expected. Curt need to supply correct plastic panel rivets.
This hitch fit perfectly on my 2017 F60 Mini Countryman. Some parts of the instructions are a little tricky and leave out small details but another review was a lot of help and highlighted a few key details the instructions left out.
For my specific vehicle there was absolutely nothing to cut. The heat shield was out of the way enough for it to fit perfectly and all the screws went back where they’re supposed to be. No zip ties necessary. When removing the wheel arch trim it’s easier to open the rear doors and start from there rather than at the bumper. The 3 small pins pop out easy and the clips that go into the bumper come out better doing it that way.
The small covers that go over the tail light hardware was a little tricky to remove. It pulls straight out, I learned the hard way and broke a clip.
2 8mm screws and a 10mm plastic nut need to be removed from the right side fender liner and 1 8mm screw and 10mm nut need to be removed from the left fender liner.
When removing the bumper it’s easier to pull the sides out of the rear quarter panel and then lift from the bottom of the bumper to get all the clips free.
The hitch overall seems to be great quality. It fit great and the install was much easier than expected. This definitely works with the automatic lift gate!
Overall I’m happy with how it turned out. Eager to try it this summer!
Install was pretty easy, everything fit perfectly.
Works great to be able to attach a hitch mounted bike rack. Install was involved, but not horrible. The provided plastic rivets were just a touch too big - I could have drilled the holes a bit but the POM rivet gun i bought (twelve bucks) came with an assortment which I used. I also ended up modifying the heat shield a little bit: cut out a rectangle for the hitch to drop into, and gently hammered two of the "outdents" in so that I could re-use the bolts to attach instead of using anything like zip ties as another installer had done. In the end, everything is super solid, and with my 1.25" to 2" adapter I can use my existing bike rack and it's very solid and the back end of the Mini does not sag at all. Also important, with this hitch, as compared to others I was looking at, there is no reduction in ground clearance since the hitch stays above the height of the heat shield.
Great service & quick delivery from etrailer. The hitch is custom for my Mini Cooper S Countryman. It fit perfectly and hauls my road bike and/or my mountain bike. I had the hitch professionally installed. This is the 3rd hitch I’ve ordered from etrailer and I get great service and a great product every time.

This hitch receiver worked on my leased vehicle just as well as the previous one worked on my earlier vehicle. I will definitely look for the same if my next vehicle does not have a hitch receiver.
Well made hitch, in use for 1 yr for bike rack.. will probably out last the car...
This is a great trailer receiver! The installation requires professional assistance but the quality of the product is exception. It is just not an easy installation.

Hitch worked great for my Countryman Mini Cooper. I had to use a recommended service company to install it, which they did a great job. Took all day and around $800, but they were able hide everything as good as possible.
etrailer was great to work with. I had to do a return on one item and it was quick and easy. Would highly recommend them for any trailer parts.
