Question:

Hi, I am leasing a 2019 mini countryman cooper S. We got into bicycling and would like to be able to take our bikes to different places to ride. I see there is the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch # 306-X7387 is a great option, however, I am not sure I want to buy it since I will have to return the car in just over 1yr. I would like to know if this hitch can be used on another car and if so, which cars would it fit. Thanks for your help.

The EcoHitch # 306-X7387 is specifically designed for the 2019 Mini Countryman, it won't fit any other vehicles. Also, from looking at the installation instructions, it looks like there are some cutting and modifications necessary for the installation that you most likely wouldn't want to do on a leased vehicle.

However, the Curt Class I hitch # C11522 which has a 1-1/4 inch square receiver opening won't require any permanent modifications, isn't really any less concealed than the EcoHitch (see photos) and is a heckuva lot less expensive. If your bike rack is compatible with a 1-1/4 inch receiver, I'd use the Curt. This hitch fits the 2017-2021 Countryman, but you'll have much less financial exposure going this route.

If you don't already have a bike rack, I'd recommend the Thule Doubletrack Pro, part # TH92BJ. The rack includes a locking hitch pin, and the clamps that hold the bikes in place are also lockable. You can see a demonstration video by using the provided link.
