Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Installation instructions were good. Took about 1.5hrs to install. You will need a second set of hands. Works great. No issues. Good price. Fit my Subaru Impreza perfectly.

My hitch has so far worked perfectly for carrying my bike rack. I am about to try pulling a 5 x 8 trailer so just gave 4 stars in case it doesn't work well with it but I expect it will. Easy to install. Needed a friend to help with lifting it and keeping it in position but wasn't too time consuming.

I’m writing this review a year after I bought the hitch, but I remember it arrived exactly when Etrailer said it would. Any questions I had, they answered. Very good customer service all around. Plus the hitch is just what I wanted for my car and my bikes. Recommended.

Overall trailer hitch is as advertised. Good quality construction/ welds look good. Priced right. Shipped OK/ arrived no issues. Installation was a bit tough. Videos were extremely helpful and a must to understand the order of bolt/ spacer block installation. The written instructions were of no help just to verify torque settings. Two points of issue. The forward most bolt (one drivers side/ one passengers side) is juuuusssst that much too short. The kit supplied 4 -1.5" grade 5 carriage bolts but there really should be 2 - 1.75" or 2" bolts for those forward most holes because once you add the flat washer + the lock washer + the spacer in the frame and the spacer between the frame/ hitch it is impossible to screw the nut on. See attached pictures Also, once installed and put to use, the Thule bike rack bolt that goes thru the hitch could not be tightened w/ the Thule wrench. The trailer hitch chain loops would not allow. A ratchet w/ 3/4" socket will need to be kept in the car for the Mrs to tighten when using the bike rack. Hitch looks good and is installed and operational. Thank you

A solid hitch that the do-it-yourselfer can install. Bolted right onto the daughter's Subaru. Bike rack has never been out of the hitch since the install(the bike gets keep in the car sometimes for safety!) Very happy customer! Since college graduation last spring- car, hitch, bike rack, and bike have been from Maine to California with Utah and Colorado stops and now a job in Vermont! Everything works great! Thanks for a great product making people happy.

2016 Subaru Crosstrek

Great hitch for Subaru Crosstrek. I use it to put a tray style bike rack on the back. Easy install, I had no issues with the length of the bolts as other customers have mentioned. Also did not have to drill out the holes in the frame on my 2016 Crosstrek. Included bolt fishing wire makes it a breeze to install. If you do it solo, might want to have a hydraulic jack to hold the hitch in place while you bolt it on. Have not tried it for towing, but it looks like it's built solid. Arrived super quickly from etrailer.com, highly recommend!

2017 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Product shipped fast but packaging could be a little better. The box was heavy duty but the hitch was put in there with no secondary protection so it arrived scuffed up from the cardboard. There were also a fair amount of chips in the paint but I run a powder coat shop and blasted it and applied a zinc primer anyways to withstand the salt and brines they put on our Minnesota roads in the winter so this didn't bother me. The factory powder coat on this was pretty average but I understand not everyone is willing to shell out extra cash for better paint and just want a functional hitch for a fair price. Installation was straightforward and a breeze. No need to drill any extra holes on my 2017 Crosstrek. Two people make mounting the hitch a lot easier so you don't knock the bolts back into the frame rail. Overall fit was spot on and should do me just fine.

Nice tight installation. Looks very clean. I had a shop install it so I can't comment on ease of install. I can say that the one I bought previously for a Kia was a snap to install. I use it for a bike rack.

2016 Subaru Impreza

Product DT24959 Really easy to install. Watching the video on their website is all the information you need to install trailer hitch. I was lucky to have access to a gas station lift and a second person to hold unit in place while I bolted unit on. We left off the spacer (item 6) maybe needed for different model of car also no need to lower muffler on 2016 Subaru Impreza.

Happy with my hitch :) The product was relatively easy to install, it took two of us about 1.5 hours to finish. I'm using it for my bike rack and it fits my 1.25" yakima "hold up" perfectly. I was worried that it would be too close to the car or too low to the ground, but I haven't had any problems.

2017 Subaru Impreza

Excellent product. Fits perfect for the 2017 Impreza. Could be a bit more snug up to the bumper but very happy with it overall. The front bolt could be longer as others have mentioned. I would suggest installing the rear bolts first and then the front ones. Also, wish the receiver stop was a bit further back so that my rack would sit closer to the bumper, but overall very happy with it.

Excellent hitch mount, definitely recommend at least ramps and another set of hands would be really helpful. Solo installation was tricky, but not impossible. Nice not having to file the opening too much. No issues with it loosening up in the year since installing it, with weekly use with a bike rack.

The hitch installed easily and fit as expected. It took me about 90 minutes to install it myself. I did have to remove 2 of the plastic body fasteners under the bumper on the driver's side of the car to free up the plastic panel underneath. It was interfering with installing the hitch. I put the fasteners back in after the hitch was installed. The plastic panel rests against the hitch, but it isn't an issue.

Hitch has been a great addition to my Impreza. I will note that one of the mounting screws is a lot harder to access than it says, but I also didn't fully loosen the exhaust because that was also really difficult. It's been working great though once I got it installed. Paired it with a bike rack from etrailer and I have no regrets!

2017 Subaru Impreza

It fits well, but is not as snug against the bumper as I hoped, even when using the supplied spacer in the forward bolts. I did not have to lower the muffler as the instructions say on 2017 Impreza, there is a way to wiggle it in place after you get your bolts in place.

Good Product. I am a guy that likes a challenge although this wasen't much of one.. easy instructions, straight forward application and tools this was a fun project. my best advice would be if you're putting together a project of sorts make sure you speak to a rep before you order, that way all the parts you order work well together..

2017 Subaru Impreza

The quality of this tow hitch is adequate. The hitch has a notch where it mounts to the frame to skirt the rear left exhaust hanger, but it’s not quite deep enough, so the hitch isn’t perfectly centered. I found getting the spacer in place for the forward holes a challenge, use tape as they show in the video to keep them in place. The instructions that came with the hitch said to drill an additional 1/2” hole next to the rearward holes to allow the carriage bolts into the frame, that wasn’t enough. Using a die grinder as they do in the video would have been much faster. The safety chain hoops came out of the box slightly bent which will in no way affect their utility but doesn’t inspire confidence in the quality of the product. My biggest gripe is the misleading advertisement of this hitch. It is listed as good to tow up to 2,000#. That may be technically true, but not in a 2017 Impreza, the specific vehicle it was designed for. In fact, according to Subaru, a 17 Impreza does not have any tow rating at all. The owners manual states that the vehicle is not intended for towing, and to never be used for towing of any kind. Would towing within the capacity of the hitch cause a problem? I don’t know, but I am certainly not going to risk a breakdown that will not be covered under warranty to find out. Clearly etrailer researches their products well, so I would like an explanation for this discrepancy. It is true that a hitch can be used for something other than towing, so the fact that it is being sold is not a problem. You could use it to mount a bike rack, or small cargo carrier. But in that case, the hitch should be listed on the website as such; appropriate for certain types of loads, but never for towing in this application. The listing states: “custom fit trailer hitch lets you tow a trailer...” which is not true. Had I not thought to check my owners manual, I might have inadvertently caused damage that would not be covered under warranty.

Comments
This trailer is hitch is designed for a variety of vehicles. Yes, it is a custom fit for the impreza but it fits other vehicles as well. It always a good idea to check the owners manual of the vehicle to see what is recommended by the vehicles manufacturer.

The Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver part # DT24959 (25 Lbs) and EcoHitch Invisi Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 306-X7211 (30 Lbs) are both great options for a 2013 Subaru Impreza Wagon. I recommend the EcoHitch because it has the best look once installed, offers the best ground clearance, and allows for use with the most amount of hitch mounted accessories. For a 5 door wagon (single exhaust-equipped models only), you can go with a 2 inch receiver, which I'd recommend. The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # DT24959 that fits your 2017 Subaru Impreza hatchback will only work with one or two-bike racks because it is a Class I trailer hitch, and the issue is the amount of leverage being put on such a light weight hitch. We have not yet had the opportunity to test fit your 2018 Subaru Crosstrek Limited and our manufacturers have not tested it either, so I can't confirm a fit at this time If the information you read about the Crosstrek and Impreza is true, then the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # DT24959 would fit in the same way it fit the 2017 Crosstrek and Impreza. If you already have this hitch, I recommend using new hardware. You can use the Replacement...

  • Does Draw-Tite Use Knock-Out in Bumper to Pass Through Rear Fascia of 2013 Subaru Impreza
For your 2013 Impreza Hatchback I'd recommend Draw-Tite # DT24959, if your vehicle has a single exhaust. If it is a WRX or WRX STi model with the quad tip exhaust, you'd want to use the Curt Class I, part # C11120. For the Curt model, there would be some fascia trimming required. The knockout you mentioned is intended to allow the factory installed hitch pass through the bumper fascia, and would not be used by an aftermarket hitch. To complete your towing system, you might...

  • Recommendation for Carrying 2 Kayaks on a 2017 Subaru Impreza
We do have a hitch that will fit your 2017 Subaru Impreza, which is the Draw-Tite # DT24959. If you choose to tow a Kayak trailer, this hitch will work well. However, when I looked up the owner's manual for your Impreza it said that your vehicle was not made or intended for towing trailers. I have another solution that will not void your vehicle's warranty. Yakima has a roof rack system that will allow you to carry both Kayaks, as long as you do not go over your Subaru's roof weight...
