Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2016 Toyota Sienna - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2016 Toyota Sienna, we're going to take look at and then show you how to install the Draw-tite custom fit class 2 trailer hitch receiver. This offers the 1-1/4" by 1-1/4" opening. It's part number is 36513. Here's what our hitch looks like installed. As you can see, our cross tube, it comes across and goes to our connection points right in the frame rails. Here in the center, that's going to be our receiver tube opening. This is an 1-1/4" by 1-1/4" class 2 hitch.

All mounts, cargo carriers, things like that, you just want to be sure that it's a class 2 accessory, and that it has the 1-1/4" by 1-1/4" shank. To hold it in place, we've got our 1/2" diameter pinhole there. You'll see we've got kind of a plate style safety chain connection point here. It's going to give us good support for the receiver tube opening, and also nice, large, open areas to connect any type of chain we might want to. Now when it comes to towing, we've got a 300-lb. tongue weight limit.

That's the maximum downward force that we can put here at our receiver tube opening. The hitch has a 3500-lb. gross trailer weight rating. That's going to be the total weight of our trailer and then anything that we we're to load up on it. We do want to keep in mind that we should consult the owner's manual on the Sienna, see what it's tow rating is, and we'll go off of whichever of those numbers are the lowest. Now a couple measurements that are going to be helpful when selecting your ball mount, bike rack, through to hitch cargo carriers, will be from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, which is about 11-1/4".

Then from the center of our hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of our bumper it's about 4-1/4". Now if your vehicle is equipped with this panel underneath the backside, we're going to get that pulled down and out of the way. We'll be trimming it and putting it back in place, or you can just leave it off, whatever you want to do. Putting it back in place does give it a little bit cleaner look across the back though, but it is optional for you. You can see we've got some Phillips screws across the back here. We'll get these pulled out.

Also across the backside here, there are these large, they're basically kind of like a nut that you would just push up on the bolt. But if you use a large Phillips, or even a large flat head for that matter, you can get them to come down and off. They're just that's what you're looking for. Now we'll go to the outside edge on the passenger side and the driver's side, and we'll have the same style fasteners there. We've got a couple pushpin fasteners across this forward edge. For these, you're going to pull out the core, and then the whole thing should come out, like that. Now if your Sienna is equipped with the added on mud flaps here, we need to pull the little Phillips screw out of there, just like that, and we'll just push that panel over out of the way. We can put our screw right back in. Now we're going to do the last 2 pushpin fasteners here, and work our panel out. All right, now for trimming out our panel, you can see we've got 1, 2, 3, 4. That's where those black Phillips screws we're all the way. This is the very back edge, towards the rear of the vehicle. These are the fasteners we had in the front. Basically we want to retain the 4 holes and the 2 Phillips style push nuts. The 1 hole on the end here is all the way over on the driver's corner. This is going to be going away. We'll come right in from that hole. You can see there's a corner edge right here. From that edge we want to go right back to that point. Just like that. Then we're going to be following this line all the way around. Then when we get over to this edge, we'll be about 2" before the end, we're going to come down just like that, right over to that corner. Now the material you can see it's really flexible, so a razor knife's really all you're going to need to cut it. This smaller piece will be the part going back up. The larger piece we can set aside, or maybe use it as a sled. Now to give us a little bit more flexibility in the exhaust here, so we kind of get our hands in there, there's a hangar right here that we're going to remove. Usually if you just use a little bit of spray lubricant on it, and then a big screw driver and maybe a pry bar in behind it, it'll usually come off there for you. That will give us just a little bit more room to work. We don't need much. All right, now we've got 3 attachment points on each side. You can see there's 3 stickers that cover the holes, and then there's a little rubber plug. We can leave the rubber plug, but we want to pull down these little stickers. We'll do that here on the driver's side, and the exact same thing on our passenger side. We've got the same attachments points on both. All right, now we're ready to raise our hitch up into position. It's kind of long, so it's a good idea to get an extra set of hands. We just want to align the holes that are in the hitch bracket with the holes we just cleared. We're going to be threading in the provided hardware. We want to make sure on our bolt that we put a locking washer, then a flat washer, and then we'll go right up and in. Once we've got that bolt started, we'll just let it rest there. That's going to hold it in position while we get the rest of them going. Now we can take just a quick look. We want to make sure we've got our hitch centered on our vehicle. Then we'll snug those bolts down. Then we'll want to torque under the appropriate torque specification that we'll find in our instructions. Now we can get our exhaust put back up into position. A little bit more spray lubricant can help us there. It's going to slide on pretty easy. Now let's get that cover put back on the rear. See our 2 push nuts there. We just kind of slide it over. We want this lip to go over the bumper there. We'll just get these in line, push them up and over. Then we'll put our 4 screws across the back. With our panel replaced, that's going to complete our installation of the Draw-tite custom fit class 2 trailer hitch receiver, part number 36513, on our 2016 Toyota Sienna.

2007 Toyota Sienna

I installed this hitch on a 2007 Sienna so I can connect my bike rack to the van. The installation was very straightforward. Watching the video was very helpful. I did not remove the exhaust pipe off the hanger which made threading the bolts a little more challenging. Smaller hands would have made that task easier. The box the hitch was shipped and is the perfect height to help support the tongue when installing. Total install time was 35 minutes. 481857

I received a defective or not so well designed product since the trailer hitch ended interfering with the bumper cover by about 1/2 inch. Or, it may not be good for 2005 Toyota Sienna as it was specified and sold. See the pictures. 523452

Comments

According to Draw-Tite, Toyota made minor changes in the bumper fascia over the years. The hitch is a fit for the vehicle, and the fascia can be notched if necessary.

Easy installation. Some measuring required to cut two slots of the stock plastic pan mounted on the rear of the van body. 558316

The hitch was perfect and it went on nicely and the American flag was a great suggest but the pin was to short to hook anything in and hold it. I think you cut the wrong end (which was the short side not the long side). 160969

The hitch is good quality, heavy and well built. The holes toward the front of the vehicle seemed to be just a little off, which created a tight fit, but we were able to get them lined up, secured and tightened down with some gentle crowbar work. Also the trim panel was very easy to work with and the online video was excellent. As mentioned in the video much of the work can be done by one person , but getting the holes lined up and started is a two person job. 216117

I received the hitch on time. The installation went smooth. Took me 30 min max, for one person it wasn't that difficult. I rested one end on the exhaust and it was pretty straight forward from there. I just sprayed the bolt threads with wd40 in the day before and didn't feel any resistance at the time of installation. Thank you etrailer for an the prompt service and excellant custom produce 284270

I bought both the receiver & wiring kit. I was in no rush so went with standard shipping and received in less than a week. The receiver was more stout in construction than I expected and it fit on my minivan like a glove. Most of my time was consumed by cleaning the threads on the van frame - didn't have metric tap. The wiring went nice & smooth. the total job took me a bit over 3 hours. 162685

This should be an easy product to install. The hitch itself appears to line up to the holes perfectly underneath the van, however, after attempting to screw in the bolts provided into the pre-drilled holes in the van, the bolts provided are too thick to do so. After calling Customer Service at etrailer.com about the issue they said Id need to bore out the holes in the van because the bolts provided are the correct size, even though you can clearly see the bolts are too large. After explaining this to the customer service rep again, supposively, etrailer.com is going to confirm with the manufacturer the bolts provided are the correct size and let me know the outcome. Ill see what happens, but at this point Im not happy with this purchase and etrailer.coms response yet. If they let me Ill post an update of my outcome. Ill either go to Home Depot and get the correct bolts myself or send it all back to them. 76533

I brought 2 trailer hitches. I want to be able to swap a trailer hitch bike rack between both of my vehicles. I got two nice products. However, what I'm most inpressed with is the support from this web site. I received a few emails that provided additional information about my product. The installation videos are top notch. All parts I needed for the install was supplied. Even the clever fishing wire used to insert the bolts. I highly recommend purchasing a hitch from this web site! 272464

Install was straight forward and fit was perfect. Helpful tip for others, bolt holes in the frame were fairly gunky so clean them out with some WD40 and test thread the bolts BEFORE wrestling the receiver in place. 71750

As if my minvan wasn't boss enough, I can now tow my own Port-a-potty wherever I go. First obtained online quote from UHaul ($450+) then I got quote from dealearship ($1000+) before realizing that they were both selling same product. A quick Bing internet search and I found it here on etrailer.com. I was able to reference part number and the online instruction PDF convinced me install was so simple even I could do it. My trailer hitch arrived in short order and it was very simple to install. I would seriously recommend purchasing through Etrailer.com 138499

2004 Toyota Sienna

Installed on a 2004 Toyota Sienna LE in about 15 minutes. Everything needed for install was included. Did not have to remove anything from car as directions stated you might. Basically stuck hitch up under van and put the six bolts in and finished. Make sure you have the torque wrench. Tongue in normal position sits about 11 inches off the ground. Don't forget you will need to buy a ball and a wiring harness for the van. 66632

Quick shipping. I backed my van up to the edge of a curb to get more room to work underneath. The Siennas have 6 weldnuts already on the frame so install was a piece of cake. Didn't have to trim any bodywork, either. I ordered a Sienna trailer wiring kit, too, and it all came in the same box. Exceptional customer service and follow-up from these guys. 188299

Ordering was easy with the Year Make and Model. My order was filled and shipped quickly and accurately. After receiving the hitch it was pretty easy to install, lifting it into place was the toughest part. I am more then satisfied with this company, and will recommend it to all my friends who need hitches or trailers. 415496

2017 Toyota Sienna

Excellent install video really helped with the process. Took about an hour to install, most of which was trimming the undertray - I decided to keep the whole piece and cut a slot for the driver's side mounting leg, which I fed through the opening and back into position. Finally, on my 2017 Sienna there is a little spoiler lip molded into the undertray exactly where the cross-tube sits so I just cut along the top of the lip to open it up, and it fit perfectly around the crosstube after that so thet the crosstube is "streamlined" by the spoiler and doesn't get dirty. 327992

Buying this trailer package was the easiest on-line experience I've had. I liked that everything I needed was in their web page and the video's showing installation gives one confidence on how easy this can be. I bought the hitch, wiring kit and drawbar for a complete turn key solution. Further, I have already recommended etrailer.com to a friend with a similar vehicle. 362830

We needed to be able to transport bikes for a family of five, and also occasionally get lumber, pine straw, etc. Our etrailer hitch enabled us to use a large bike rack, and to pull a small trailer. The hitch solved these problems in a very cost effective way. It was very easy to install as well, so I put one on both my vehicles! 382808

As usual, the instructional video is what made this product easy to install. I had it installed in less than an hour. Only gripe was that one bolt hole (out of six) did not line up correctly. I had to do some serious leveraging to get it lined up. In the end, though, it wasn't too tough, and I'm very happy. 208153

It was a battle to install the thing. I did not take the exhaust pipe off the hanger and I heartily suggest you do when installing. Other that that, it fit and bolted up so it's in place and ready for action. It was delivered a day earlier than scheduled. That's a plus in my book. 369187

2015 Toyota Sienna. Install was straight forward. I was able to reinstall the entire appearance cover by cutting a slit for the driver's side hitch attachment plate. The instructions said to only reinstall the rear of the cover after cutting & removing it from the main part. 262467

Usually when it says 30 min to install it turns out to be an all day event. But it went on I think in less time than what was indicated. Had to pry one side just a little bit to get holes lined up. Put on for a cargo carrier for suitcases on upcoming vacation. 389913

  • The first thing you will need is a trailer hitch on your Sienna. I recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, part # 36513. This is a Class lll hitch and it has a 2 inch receiver opening. Since you are towing I recommend a ball mount kit like part # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. If the ball mount kit does...

  • Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2011 Toyota Sienna
  • As long as you have a Class III hitch with a 2 inch opening like the Draw Tite hitch part # 36513 on your 2011 Toyota Sienna the Yakima SwingDaddy 4-Bike Rack # Y02464 that you referenced would work great for you. This rack is a great rack that will swing out and give you complete rear cargo access with bikes loaded. I attached a review video for you to check out as well. If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested...

  • Hitch Recommendation for a 2004 Toyota Sienna Towing Small Trailer
  • For a hitch for your 2004 Toyota Sienna that will allow you to do some towing I would recommend the Hidden Hitch part # 87415. This is a Class III hitch with plenty of capacity that would work great for you. I attached an install video for you to check out as well. This hitch has the capacity for towing your small trailer and lawn mower, but you will also want to check the owners manual of your vehicle to determine the towing capacities of it as well and be sure to go with the lowest...

  • Differences Between Class II and III Hitches for 2012 Toyota Sienna
  • The primary differences between the 1-1/4 inch and 2 inch receiver are the size and the capacity. The Class III hitches for your Sienna have a 3500 lb towing/ 350 lb tongue weight capacity. The Class II hitches have the same towing capacity, but a lower tongue weight capacity, at 300 lbs. We usually recommend going with the Class III if the choice is available. The 2 inch receiver opening used by the Class III hitch is more common, and therefore there is a better selection of hitch...

  • Options for Routing the Power Wire of a Trailer Wiring Harness in a 2011 Toyota Sienna
  • It would be possible for you to route the power wire for the Curt Trailer Wiring harness # C56106 on the inside of your 2011 Toyota Sienna but it will prove to be more time consuming as you will have to route the wire under trim panels to get it from the back to the front of the vehicle and then will have to find a hole in the firewall. I would run the wire on the outside using jackstands to secure the vehicle in the air while you work underneath it. But in the end it's your call whether...

  • Will Trailer Hitch For 2004 Toyota Sienna Fit 2015 Sienna
  • We offer four trailer hitches that are confirmed to fit both the 2004 and 2015 Sienna. If you have a Curt, part # C13105, or Curt part # C12065, or Draw-Tite, part # 36513, these are confirmed to fit both vehicles. The Curt C12065 is a Class ll hitch and has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. C13105, and 36513 are Class lll hitches and have 2 inch receiver openings. If you have one of these hitches and plan on removing it from the 2004 and installing it on the 2015, you will need new...

  • Parts Needed to Install Trailer Brake Controller on 2009 Toyota RAV4 with 4-Way Connector
  • In order to convert the existing 4-Way on your 2009 Toyota RAV4 to a fully functional 7-Way you just need the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This kit includes everything needed to do this along with the extra wiring and circuit breakers for installing a brake controller. You will also be able to run wiring from the vehicle's battery to the 12V pin on the 7-Way with this kit, which will activate the 12V pin on the connector so that you can provide a maintenance charge to your camper battery...

  • Choosing Between a Class II and a Class III Trailer Hitch for a 2007 Toyota Sienna
  • If you want to use a bike rack that's designed for a 2 inch receiver opening, using a 2 inch receiver would always be your best bet. Using an adapter will reduce the tongue weight capacity (maximum amount of downward force that could be applied to the hitch without causing damage) by half. If you used a Class II hitch with a 300 lb tongue weight capacity, using the adapter would reduce the capacity to 150 lbs. This means that the weight of the bike rack plus the bikes placed upon it couldn't...
