Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 1999 Honda Accord - Draw-Tite

Today on this 1999 Honda Accord we're going to install part number 24791 from Draw-Tite. First thing we need to do is get our vehicle ready to install our hitch. To do that we need to lower our exhaust. To help support our exhaust while it's lowered down a little bit, we'll go ahead and use a strap. Then we need to go ahead and remove some rubber hangers. There's one right here and then there's one on the back side over here. We'll spray these down with some lubricant and push, pry, whatever it takes to get these off. We loosened up our strap a little bit.

You can see how our exhaust comes down a little bit. We got a little bit of extra working room. Optional, if you want more, you can go ahead and loosen this one up. We'll go ahead and do that as well. We'll go ahead and lower our exhaust now using our strap. Okay. Next step to get the vehicle ready is to go ahead and make this hole a little bit bigger so our hardware can go inside.

This piece of hardware will go through our hole and be threaded to sit above this hole right here, which will have a bolt going through it. We're going to use a small grinder, just enough to go ahead and slip it inside. You can also us a chisel and make a notch in it as well and get the same effect. To install our hardware in this hole, we're going to use a bolt leader. Comes with the kit. We'll run it through the hole we're going to use and out our access hole. We'll take a bolt leader, thread it through our block and push it into place.

Sometimes the top of the block will hit the very top. With some pliers you can maneuver it in place. Then we'll take our carriage bolt. There's three carriage bolt, two short ones and one long one. On these fasteners here we'll always use a short one. It usually works to put it in head first.

Then you can take your bolt leader off, or leave it on when you put your hitch into place. I typically take mine off. We're done with driver's side. Let's go ahead and repeat same process on our passenger side. Now our hardware for our tie down loop will use the longer of the three carriage bolts, block with our square hole, through the tie down point, then the block with the round hole. Then the hitch will go over here, then a inaudible 00:03:13 washer, then a nut. Always make sure the teeth in the washer always face towards the hitch. Let's rest one side on top of the exhaust, then take your hitch and put it into place. It's finger tight, enough to hold everything together. Then we'll take our hitch and push it into place. Now this is the point you want to have an extra set of hands to help hold everything in position. Make sure you guide the bolt in and then move the hitch around until it fits into place. With all our hardware installed, we'll go ahead and tighten down the bolts. With our bolts hand tightened, we'll go ahead and torque them down as specified in the instructions. With our hitch fully installed we can go ahead and re-install our exhaust. We spray some more lubricant on it and zip it on in there. All right. Let's go ahead and take our strap down and we're good to go. With that, that will finish it for our install. Part number 24791 from Draw-Tite on this 1999 Honda Accord. .

2000 Acura TL

Got my hitch today and it went on in under 30min without any lift. The video helped and was easy to follow.

by:

Mounts on a slite angle, but seems to work good. Will find out soon.

by:

Worked well, fit correctly. A second person and lift would have made it easier. Rather than trying to enlarge the holes, not easy with the exhaust size, why not smaller head and narrower cross piece. Would have been easier to grind, which I realized after.

by:
1999 Honda Accord

A little tougher than a 5 I'm a contractor and have lots of tools the square pieces could have been the correct size would have been a lot easier on a scale of 1 to 10 I'd say 8
