Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

I am interested in purchasing the Drawtite hitch for my 2007 Camry. I have a 2 bike rack mount so I will be using a 1 14 to 2 adapter but I also wanted to raise the rack. Will the MaxxTow Hitch Accessories - MT70355 work with this hitch on a Toyota Camry clear the bumper? Thanks, Dave
-- comment by: Dave M - 10/25/2013

The hitches available for your Camry are Class II, so they will be compatible with the Maxxtow MT70355. Wether or not it will clear your bumper is another matter. With raised or stepped adapters like the MT70355, they can end up making contact with the bumper cover before the pin holes line up in the hitch. A straight expander, like HTAD or MT70032 should not interfere with the bumper cover, particularly with vehicles like the Camry where the hitch tucks up tight to the underbody. Remember too, that these adapters will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch, by 50 percent, so make sur to check your weights.

2010 Toyota Camry

So about a year ago I bought a reciever hitch, receiver cover, euro style ball and wiring for my 2010 Camry to tow a 4x8 foldable trailer for powersports......Installation was straight forward and dedicated an afternoon for install.....Directions for the products was easy to follow for both products.... so far the wiring is just as I installed it and the hitch is holding up great, you can barely notice that I have a hitch back there. I think it blends in nicely....I anticipate many years of worry free towing.... Customer service is top notch also ????

The hitch was an easy install for one person with a floor jack, if you want more elbow room. You don't need to drop the exhaust on a Toyota Camry LE to complete the install.

Excellent product. Came with good instructions for install, does require a jack, wheel chocks, possibly jack stands, wrenches and ratchet and sockets, and a drill for bracketing thru trunk basin. Does take some time and patience especially dropping the muffler to get up and under it. The hitch itself is great. I use it for my bicycle rack. Once installed it is hidden other than the receiver. Very satisfied and glad I was able to install myself with the good instructions.

The hitch was for a 2007 Toyota Camry. The installation was easy after watching the videos on how to install it. It requires drilling a couple of holes in the tire compartment but following the instructions carefully and sealed everything well and everything is just fine. I recommend this product for anyone because the installation is really easy.

I bought the hitch a year ago for a Camry we keep at a vacation home - it showed up on time and in perfect condition. I had the hitch installed by an auto repair place and the guy who installed it told me it was manufactured to fit the car, exactly. We attach a bike-rake to it and it works like a charm.

Have owned and used this hitch for over a year now. Still VERY happy with my ion. Last April we pulled a small trailer from Ohio to Arizona and back with my 2010 Toyota Camry. No problems whatsoever. No bumping or thumping from loose hardware or faulty construction. I am VERY confident that this is the best product for the money.

2008 Lexus ES 350

This is an excellent product, despite giving only 4 stars. Let me explain. I installed it on my 2007 Lexus es350, but with much more difficulty than implied by the 2008 es350 install video. I'll admit I'm not a seasoned mechanic, but there are a couple of big gotchas that should be noted for installers of the 2007 es350 model. Problem#1) It's not THAT big of a deal, but the hitch directly interferes with the metal tabs that previously held the bumper fascia. The ONLY way to install the hitch on a 2007 model is to either bend the tabs flat or cut them off. It's OK they are not needed but the instructions need to state that, at least for some Lexus models. Problem#2) The hitch could not be positioned into place such that the bolts were aligned at both ends at the same time. It was off by 3/8 in or so. OK, not a lot, but human strength was to no avail. The missing instruction is that you need to align the hitch to get one bolt started at one end. Then, use a hydraulic jack and some 2x4 blocks to lift the other end to make it align at the other end. That did the trick. But, playing around with these two issues took some time and frustration, so I have no brags about a quick installation, like other reviewers. I thought it quaint that the instruction video spent one sentence about bolting the hitch in place. Complaints about the instructions aside, I'm impressed that the hitch is quite solid and well-hidden behind the bumper. It looks great! I recommend this product.

2011 Toyota Camry

I chose the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch because the crossbar is relatively unseen on my car, a 2011 Toyota Camry. This hitch model does require drilling into the trunk void but that wasn't difficult (other than having to empty the trunk and remove spare tire). There are other models that don't require drilling but the crossbars are clearly visible from the rear of the vehicle. The installation video provided on the etrailer website was very useful. I was able to install by removing only the 2 rear exhaust mounts to gain enough clearance to work a socket easily. I will be using this with a Kuat Sherpa bike rack to transport my bicycles

This is a review for the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receive-Class II-1-1/4". I installed it on a 2010 Toyota Camry to attach a Swagman 4-bike rack. The hitch was installed by a local shop. Works wonderfully! It did stick out just 1/2" more than what I would have liked. I do have to be careful when going up or down a steep driveway, the hitch rubs against the road. This could be an installation issue or a hitch design issue. It just means I cannot use the Camry on a few steep inclines. But otherwise, I still rate it 5 star for the wonderful job it does. I have not seen it wobble even with the Swagman loaded with three bikes...yet to load the four bikes at a time.

2011 Toyota Camry

The hitch was exactly as ordered and fit perfectly. It is sturdy and a great value. It arrived quickly to CA. I really liked the videos and reviews on the site which gave me ideas and a sense of knowing I was installing everything correctly. I, like most of us, do not have access to a lift, but I used the ramps I have for oil changes on our cars. I just backed up on them and and chocked the front wheels. I also do not have lifting help and I am 71 so I set the hitch on a floor jack and my wife raised it up as I guided it in behind the bumper cover. I read a review that said he was able to install without dropping the muffler, and I did the same. Thanks for that tip, it was easy. Our Camry had weld nuts on both sides, maybe because it is one of the early 2011 models, which made it very easy. Let me say that I can see the muffler drop if you are using power tools. But if you are using good old had tools it really is not necessary. Another comment about the reviews. One review expressed concern over ware on the spare from the added bolts and the fact of permanently removing a factory bracket. This must have been a brother of mine as I had the same thoughts when I viewed the installation video before ordering. If you have a "donut" spare, like most, with it in the well look through the center hub with a flash light, the added bolts and plates are inside the rim area and never contact the actual tire. The second concern of the bracket removal, after looking at what it was bolted to, and where the added hitch, which is much stronger, is secured, I have no concerns the the bracket is now needed. After clearing the trunk, getting the tools together, and backing on the ramps. From start to final torque down of the bolts it was right at an hour. Note: My wife was very pleased with the hidden appearance of this hitch on "her" car. Always a success when the wife is happy. I recommend this model hitch and ETrailer and will refer friends.

I installed the hitch without loosening or moving the exhaust/tail pipe (as recommended by some other reviewers). After removing the appropriate bracket from under the non-exhaust side of the car and popping out the bumper molding clips, the hitch easily slide up and over the tail pipe. Full installation took me right at 1 hour. The only downside I can see with not moving the exhaust pipe out of the way, you are limited in how far you can turn your ratchet/wrench when installing the exhaust side bolts. I was limited to about 1/8th turn, resulting in many more short turns of the ratchet to tighten the bolts. I still felt this was easier than messing with the exhaust pipe. All in all, seems to be a good product.

  • Will Draw-Tite Class II Hitch 36416 Fit a 2008 Toyota Camry SE With Dual Exhaust
The Draw-Tite Class II hitch you refer to, part # 36416 is indeed compatible with a 2008 Camry SE with the Dual Exhausts. I've provided a photo of the hitch once it's installed. If you'll be towing with the hitch, you'll also need a # 118405 trailer wiring harness, a # 36071 ball mount/hitch pin and for a 1-7/8 inch trailer ball use # 19256 or # 19258 for a 2 inch ball. I've linked to installation videos for the hitch and the wiring harness.

Technology has advanced where 2" hitches are being designed for newer models, but for your vehicle, a Class II is as good as it gets. The only solution here would be to use a hitch adapter # 80303 to turn your 1-1/4" into a 2" hitch. I would be cautious though, since this method halves your hitch capacity. Since you are looking to pull a small trailer with this car you will need wiring, the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118482, to power your trailer lights. This hitch also requires Drawbar for 1-1/4" Hitch # 36071 and 1-7/8" Hitch Ball # 19256. The reason you want that size hitch ball is because the best option we...

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2007 Toyota Camry
I have a couple of solutions for you but there isn't a 2 inch hitch available for the 2007 Toyota Camry. One solution is to use a hitch expander such as # MT70032. While this does allow you to use a 2 inch accessory with a 1-1/4 inch trailer hitch. There is 1 side effect; the use of an expander reduces the tongue weight capacity of a trailer hitch by 50 percent. You will also need a hitch pin # PC2. So for Draw-Tite hitch # 36416 the tongue weight capacity would be reduced to 150 pounds....

  • Could a Class II Hitch Be Used as a Recovery Point for Snow/Mud
The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 36416 that you referenced wasn't exactly designed as a recovery point, BUT it has a trailer capacity of 3,500 lbs. So for snow it would work great since snow doesn't really hold the vehicle like mud can. If you are just in an area that is slick and aren't buried in mud the hitch should work well there too.

  • Fit of Draw-Tite Class II Hitch # 36416 on 2009 Lexus ES350
Curt offers a Class II hitch, part # C12343 that is a confirmed fit for your 2009 Lexus ES350. Curt tells me that this hitch will also fit a 2009 Camry. If you click the link I've provided, you can see an install video. At one time, Draw-Tite considered the hitch a fit for the Lexus ES 350. However, they no longer consider the hitch a fit and do not recommend attempting to install it on that vehicle.

  • 2007 Toyota Camry Trailer Hitch Recommendation for Towing Small Trailer
First you will need to start with a trailer hitch for your 2007 Toyota Camry. For that you will want the part # 36416 that has been confirmed as a fit. I attached an install video for you to check out as well. For a ball mount you would want the part # 36071, for a 1-7/8 inch ball # 19256, for a 2 inch ball # 19258 and for trailer wiring part # 118405.

  • Recommended Hitch for Carrying Bikes with 2011 Toyota Camry SE
We offer a Hidden Hitch or a Draw-Tite Class II hitch for your 2011 Camry SE. If you are planning on possibly doing some light duty towing in the future, the Hidden Hitch # 90152 (no longer available) would be a good choice, as it includes the ball mount and the pin and clip. You'll also need a wiring harness # 118482 and the appropriately-sized trailer ball like # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch ball or # 19258 for a 2 inch. If all you're wanting to use the hitch for is an attachment point for...

  • How to Select Correct Ball Mount for Towing Utility Trailer with 2010 Toyota Camry
When we installed Draw-Tite Class II hitch # 36416 on a 2010 Toyota Camry we found that the top of the receiver tube opening was positioned 10-1/2-inches above ground level. This is shown in the linked installation video at the :25-second mark. Selecting the correct ball mount to keep your hitched trailer level (for the best handling) is easy; you can refer to the linked article that explains how to measure your coupler height to determine the amount of drop or rise you need. If the...
