Options for Routing the Power Wire of a Trailer Wiring Harness in a 2011 Toyota Sienna
Updated 08/12/2014 | Published 08/11/2014 >
Question:
I am contemplating setting up my 2011 Toyota Sienna for towing, but the idea of having to jack up the vehicle and work under it scares me, not to mention the time involved. However, a couple of people mentioned that they ran the wire internal to the vehicle and then through the firewall. That sounds much easier and safer! Is this a possible alternative? And why isnt this the standard recommendation? Thanks!

It would be possible for you to route the power wire for the Curt Trailer Wiring harness # C56106 on the inside of your 2011 Toyota Sienna but it will prove to be more time consuming as you will have to route the wire under trim panels to get it from the back to the front of the vehicle and then will have to find a hole in the firewall.
I would run the wire on the outside using jackstands to secure the vehicle in the air while you work underneath it. But in the end it's your call whether or not you choose the outside or inside of your vehicle.
I attached an FAQ article on routing the power wire for you to check out.
For a trailer hitch I would recommend the Draw Tite hitch part # 36513.
For ball mounts I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a carrying bag.
