Question:
I have the Draw-Tite 36416 on my 2011 Camry and would like to use my old Swagman bike rack. But that rack has a 2inch draw bar. Is there anyway I can adapt something to use the old swagman? Whatever works will probably need to have several inches of rise in order for the rack to clear the road while under way. Thanks, Richard

Hello Richard. We do have an adapter, the Brophy Hitch Adapter # HT5R which may work very well for you. This will go in to the 1-1/4" receiver on your Camry and give you a 2" receiver with 5" of rise.
It is very important to note that when using this kind of adapter, the weight capacity of your hitch will be reduced by 50%. This means that your Draw-Tite # 36416 hitch will only be able to carry 150 lbs of tongue weight. This is including the weight of the adapter (8 lbs) plus the weight of your bike rack and both bikes. As long at the combined weight is less than 150 lbs, the # HT5R is completely safe to use and will work very well for you.
If the combined weight of your bike rack and both bikes is more than 150 lbs, I would have to recommend getting a new bike rack. One like the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HLY74FR would work very well. This will go directly into the 1-1/4" hitch on your Camry and will not require the use of any adapter. So you can use your hitch up to its full 300 lb tongue weight capacity without any limitations.

Thanks for your quick reply Jesse. Good news, the old bike rack weight 24lbs and each bike is 35lbs. Total tongue weight will be 94lbs. Curious to know, what is the difference between the Brophy and the etrailer version for $56.31? Richard
