Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Bought a trailer hitch for my Mazdaspeed 3 , the hitch fit perfect and was tucked up under, guess that's why it's called the hidden hitch. Shipping was super fast and the product seemed to well built. Instructions were kinds lacking but I figured it out.

Bought my Mazda3 Hidden Hitch from etrailer.com and couldn't be happier. Great product selection with pictures of hitches installed (which is very important to me!) quick & thorough communication and fast delivery. This is the 3rd Hidden Hitch I've purchased from etrailer.com and they will always be my go-to place to buy a hitch.

Ford Transit Connect

Shipping was very fast, I'm going to do some paint touch up before I put it on the car as UPS chipped the paint in transit. Looks like it will install easy. Great price

2011 Mazda 3

Nice solid unit. extremely easy to install as stated by etrailer.

by:
2012 Mazda 3

Excellent product, showed up early & fit perfect 1st time.
I like the 'Hidden' with 2 vertical (fished through holes) and 2 horizontal mounting bolts as opposed to others with 4 vertical bolts. Looks & feels solid. Of the 2 vertical bolts, I guessed the wrong pair of holes (50/50) & wasted 20 minutes until I looked at the directions VERY close.
FYI: 2012 Mazda 3 5-door.

I bought this hitch so I could mount a bike rack on the back of my daughter's Mazda 3s. It was delivered on time and and everything needed was included. Installing the rack went smoothly and was a perfect fit. The installation hardware package was complete and the quality of the items appeared to be top quality. I'm very happy with the results.

by:
2010 Mazda 3

The hitch went on without a problem. It took me only 20 minutes to install. The directions are quite clear (all you need them for is to see which bolts/washers/nuts to use where. I am super happy with it so far. I have used it for a Swagman XTC 2 bike carrier.

by:
2010 Mazda Mazdaspeed 3

This product was installed on my 2010 Mazdaspeed 3. Install was easy once you understand how to use the wires to fish the bolts through the access holes. You will want an extra hand to hold the bar up while mounting. Overall its a great hitch, and in my opinion it doesn't stick out as much as the Curt hitch. If you are looking for the hitch that doesn't stick out the most, this is the one.

by:
Mazda 3

The product is excellent. Worked/fitted perfectly on my Mazda 3 Hatchback 2011.

Couple of things though:
• While I understand the efficiencies of buying in bulk one size of boxes, the shipping box was 75% air. WAY too big for the product. Still, product arrived with no damage, and was EXPERTLY packed.
• If you are installing by yourself, having your vehicle on a lift, or being a yoga master are hugely helpful! Honestly, get yourself a friend to help out. Makes it MUCH easier.
• ONCE I understood HOW to use the pull wires, things were much easier. But no where on the instructions did it show or explain how to use them. Besides that, it would also be helpful to append to the instructions a suggested tool list to have on hand before starting.

These things aside, I'm really happy with my hitch, it's SOLID, perfectly matched to my car, and out of the way when not in use.

Very happy with my purchase and will recommend to my friends in the future.

Thanks!

The hitch is pretty much what I was looking for. We're only using it to mount a carrier to haul two bicycles around with no intention of asking it to any more than that. In that regard the hitch receiver is exactly what we wanted. I think it could have been boxed better as the hitch had punched thru the box in a couple of places and the box was way too big for the product so it bounced around during shipping, I suspect. The interesting part was that the instructions that came with the hitch were for a Chevy Impala! The instructions and drawings had nothing to do with mounting the hitch to a Mazda 3 but the good thing is that etrailer has excellent photos showing how the hitch is attached to the car and I used those. I was working at night with a single flashlight but it only took me about 20-25 minutes to get everything where it's supposed to go! It fit perfectly to the car and is rock solid. The bike rack tends to wobble a bit but with it secured in place we know it's not going to go anywhere while on the road. I've included a picture of the whole setup with bikes.

The main thing is that I'm quite pleased with how it all turned out. We got what we wanted and installation was simple. When we get another car we will order another receiver hitch from etrailer.

Still using it! Nothings come loose and Id still recommend it. The only issue I have with the hitch is that the two looped bars I guess to attach a chain from a towed trailer can get in the way when I or remove a cotter pin for the bike rack. But I can work around that and get the job done. I thought about cutting them off but when we eventually sell the car the next owner might want that feature.

I believe this is the third hitch I’ve purchased from etrailer.com. Each time I’ve been completely satisfied with the product and the service. Below are pictures of the hitch on my 2010 Mazda 3 hatchback.

by:
2010 Mazda 3

Owned for over a year. Installed on mazdaspeed 3. Consistently haul sailboat, utility trailer and bike racks. Held up great and has even taken a few blows from dips in the road. I would recommend it.

by:

It took me longer to gather my tools than install this hitch. Took me less than 10 minutes. I didn't even need the wire to fish the bolts through the frame on my Mazda3. With the rectangular washer attached, I held on to the washer and was able to put the bolt in the right spot easily.

My only complaint is that the hitch arrived with several spots where the paint was rubbed off and showing bare metal. It would be so easy for etrailer to take a few seconds to look over the hitch before throwing it in a box and shipping it out. I had to wait another week for a can of touchup paint. That's the only reason I knocked down the rating from excellent.

by:
2013 Mazda 3

This hitch is awesome. The whole experience was great. Hitch shipped super fast and installation took me about 15 minutes. Instructions were clear and simple to understand. Sturdy construction and the connection points on the car are solid. Will definitely be coming back for any other hitch or bike carrier needs I have in the future. Thanks guys!

by:

As described. Really easy to install. I backed my car up on ramps to have some extra room. Very discreet looking as well. You can only see the hitch receiver. You can not se the cross bar unless you are low to he ground.

by:
2010 Mazda 3

Excellent for a bike rack, it took me about 30 minutes to install it by myself with out a ramp to lift the car,i just put it on the drive way and it was enough room to work with.

by:

Finish and fit were perfect. No drilling or welding required. Perfect for a bike rack. YES IT DOES FIT THE MAZDASPEED 3

Product arrived as described! It fit my 2012 Mazdaspeed 3 perfectly can't wait to use it! Installed it myself took me about 15 minutes with no Jack.. I recommend this product now let's see how it holds up.

by:

Extremely easy to install. I did it alone (no help) in about 20 minutes. I can finally pull my trailer with my car! Thanks etrailer!

by:

Took me about an hour to install. had to run to Lowes and grab a deeper 11/16ths socket. Other than that a piece of cake!

Thanks for reaching out. Thing has worked great for me. The car is pretty low so sometimes it scrapes going in or out of bad driveways, and I should probably get under there and tighten it up, but yeah, super satisfied with the purchase.

by:
2013 Mazda 3

I have not used the hitch yet, even though I installed it two months ago. Life gets in the way. But the install went relatively smoothly. I read where this can be done by yourself by using bricks to hold one side up while you secure the other, but me, I got a helper and that was still a bit of a challenge. The instructions are as good as can be expected I suppose, but the there is no substitute for the video that etrailer creates for your vehicle. Whenever you get 'stuck' on something, you just go back to the video and it made it perfectly clear which screw to use and how to thread the screw to the right location. Without the video, I would have become frustrated. The only minor issue I had was needing to buy a deep well socket for two of the bolts. The bolts are too long. I guess the extra length comes in handy for initially trying to put the nut on the bolt, but after that, just a bit too long. As stated, I have not used the hitch yet, but have no reason to believe I will have any issues. Very happy with my purchase - very good support team at e-trailer.

2012 Mazda 3

At this point I am not happy with this hitch. Claims to have a 200 pound tongue load but I can actually see and measure deflection of the reciever when placed under only a 120 pound load. This measurement is compaired to the body and not the ground, etc. This is a real safety issue for me. I am currently having Etrailer contact Draw Tite to show validation of testing on this model (Mazda 3 2012 Hatchback). I question if it is actually a sub class 1 (ie tongue load rating of 125 lbs). I do not recomend this product until these safety concerns are answered. If the hitch is not torquing around the 1.25" draw bar then the frame connection points chosen by draw tite are sub standard location points.

I hope that I do not have to follow behind your trailer. The hitch is rated for up to 200 Lbs tongue weight but not your car.

  • Euro Ball Mount for U-Haul Trailer Towed with 2010 Mazda 3 with Draw Tite Hitch
Hey David, so for U-haul trailer the standard coupler height for their 5 by 8 trailer is around 16-1/2 inches. And when we installed the Draw Tite hitch part # 24843 on a similar 2019 Mazda 3 the hitch height was 10 inches. That would mean you'd need a rise of around 6 inches. The closest Euro style ball mount we have to that would be the part # C45592 which has a rise of 5-1/8 inches. Do you need trailer wiring too?

Yes indeed! Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24843 does fit the 2013 MazdaSPEED 3. If you plan on doing some towing you will also need the recommended ball mount and a ball. Use # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch or # 19258 for a 2 inch. For trailer wiring, if the vehicle has the Grand Touring LED tail light package use # 119179KIT. If it does NOT have the Grand Touring LED tail light package use # 118420.

I will be happy to make some hitch recommendations for your 2011 Mazda 3 Sport hatchback. I recommend Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24843. The reason I recommend it over the Curt option is because with Curt you would have to use stabilization strap # 18050 when using the hitch with your bike rack per the Curt warranty requirements. Draw-Tite does not have that requirement. While there are 1-1/4 to 2 inch adapters that would work there are a couple of problems. First, the use of an adapter...

The Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch models do have the safety notch in them that prevent the insertion of a Class II accessory. This is so you will not accidentally overload the hitch. The Curt hitch does not have this feature. This notch and the capacity are what makes a Class I hitch a Class I. As you have said neither the Draw-Tite nor Hidden Hitch models require the use of...
