Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Beveled Stud Holes

Beveled Stud Holes Front and Back

The stud holes on this steel wheel are beveled to ensure that the wheel stays tight against your trailer hub. This also eliminates the need to constantly retorque the lug nuts.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

After purchasing, and installation of the 2 Kenda 5.30-12 Tire W/12 White Wheels, 2 perfect fits, for my 1998 Tracker Trail Star boat trailer.I purchased these tires for my boat trailer because the tires on the trailer had small cracks due to the sun exposure. The boat is 16’2’’, and has a combined weight of about 1,380 lbs. The tires were very easy to mount, the ride while traveling on the interstate to the lake was smooth, and the handling on the boat trailer felt well secure at a high speed of 70mph. Overall I am very pleased with these tires. I also purchased two tire cover to put over the new tires, to preserve them from this Hot Atlanta, GA. sun.

After one year the tires are holding up great. Excellent product!

Tire and wheel have performed well on my boat trailer. No problems.

Tire and wheel are doing fine after a year.

A little disappointed in the quality. Rim not completely painted

Huh, that quality does not look good at all. Let me get you over to our customer service department for them to look into a replacement for you.

Kenda Loadstar 5.30-12 Bias tire,LR C, with White Rim: Tires arrived in excellent boxes, on time. I was excited to see the tires were in good shape upon arrival. I cleaned them up, applied 303 on the whole rim and tire. An excellent choice of tire for my fishing trlr. These tire are a high speed tire, wider than the 4.80 tire and will wear very good in the desert heat. I ordered 3 tires, I won't have to worry about a flat for years to come. This is my second time I purchased tires from e-trailer, they have a vast line of products with good prices ,thanks e-trailer, I will return again.

I trailer my boat on gravel roads in northern Minnesota to my favorite fishing lakes. After one year of usage these tires are still holding up to the difficult terrain. In the past with other tire brands, I would typically have to start plugging holes in the tires or replace them by mid-summer but I haven’t had any issues with these yet.

So, after one year, I’m very pleased with these after previously trying trailer tires from at least three other tire manufacturers.

Needed both new tires and wheels. These came already mounted, and slightly pressurized. Was told that balancing was not needed. Easily put on trailer and drove nice. No problems noted.
Ordering was easy. Questions were quickly answered by customer service. Shipping was quick. Good company!

Bob T.

Have had tires and wheels on for one year. Holding pressure and rolling fine. No problems.

The Kenda Loadstar 5.30-12 wheel & tires were an upgrade (from 4.80-12, load range B) for my Zieman 3-motorcycle trailer. They came ready to be installed and bolted right up! Also, was easy to order from and provided delivery tracking.

Delivery was fast and the tire rim was exactley what I needed. After a year the tires and rims have held up as expected

I have had use of one of the two tires I purchased at the same time since then and it is working perfectly. The rim is a little rusty but solid otherwise. It was worth the price as I shopped around for several days for them and the best price with shipping. Thank you!

Michael M.

Excellent. Has been in use over a year. Bought with rim. Durable for my 5x8 trailer and loads over 1,599 lbs at times.

Shipping was fast and free. Tire and wheel just what I expected. Website very easy to use.

Great product. Great price. Fast ship ping.

Michael S.

Great. Holds air, rides well.

E-trailer is the best place to order for all your trailer needs. Always the fastest shipping, and quality parts. I have dealt with E-traileer several times over the years, and they have always been great.

Wheels were for jet ski trailer . They have worked out without any issues

Fast shipping n a great product better than original equipment that came on my boat traylor. I ordered these to replace 4.80x12 mutch better tires n wheels a little bigger tire as expected but fit perfect thanks etrayler

The tires arrived in three days and were exactly what was expected. The white wheels with the red and blue pin stipe are sharp looking.

perfect !! I couldn't ask for and better or quicker service !and will order from etrailer again im sure.. I went with the buy 2 wheels & tires for the price, that way I have 2 spares for those bad trips..... which ive had on more than one occasion....

I must say, etrailer has the Best website and service I have ever had online. Even though I had chosen 1 incorrect tire of 2 different types, they helped me to get the wrong tire returned and quickly arranged for the right one to come. I am amazed by this kind of good service in a day when it's very rare. Much Thanks to Shery T. and George J. and the whole etrailer team. We Islanders would say in our local Hawaiian pidgin language---" is-- Da Best!" Aloha and Mahalo from your #1 customer here in Honolulu Hawaii.

Fast Free 3 day shipping! Tires were packaged well, clean, scratch free, and the tire pressure was perfect. They look great on my jet boat trailer. I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend buying your tires from e-trailer.

As Always,Great customer service,Great Products provided with all the Information needed to decide what to buy.

Great rims, and tires. We put a lot of miles on the old trailer this season, and no sign of wear. Only had to add a couple pounds of air once after many trips to different lakes in upstate NY, some of the worst roads on earth. etrailer really stands by their product, and I will definitely purchase from them in the future

Awesome fast service

I needed new tires for my 13 yr old 5'x8' utility trailer. ETrailer had the right product (for some reason 5.30-12s are not that common in my area) and a good price which created the highest value from the various sources I found on the web and locally.

I was very pleasantly surprised how well everything came packed.

Very good experience.

So far so good. I have used these tires for years, first time with this company. Fingers crossed. Customer service has been great. Tammie P. was easy to work with.

Product seems to be good. trailer had the same tires from 2007 on it when I got it and were still holding air but in bad shape due to age. Rims are nice and the old ones are still in good shape.

Excellent service and quality products along with very fast delivery. What more could one ask for...Thanks etrailer

  • Where to Find a Tire's Required PSI Pressure Rating
Your trailer tire will have a lot of information noted on its outer sidewall. This will be molded into the rubber. Some of this information will be fairly small and may require wiping down the tire to remove any dirt in order to see it. The type of information noted on a trailer tire includes the tire size, for example 5.30-12 as with yours; its weight Load Rating; correct cold PSI tire pressure and sometimes a speed rating letter code. The tire's correct pressure will be noted somewhere...

  • When Should Air Pressure Be Checked On The Kenda Loadstar 5.30-12 Trailer Tire with 12" White Wheel?
The air pressure should be taken with the tires on the ground and the load of the trailer on the tire. This is similar to how you check the tire pressure in your car when the tires are cold before driving. For the Kenda Loadstar 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" White Wheel # AM30820 they should be filled to 80psi cold. The 1/2" wheel studs for this wheel should be torqued to 90-120ft-lbs.

All of the trailer tires that we carry are rated for 65 miles per hour unless otherwise stated on the tire sidewall. I have included a link to a video review of this tire and wheel combo and a link to a tire FAQ article for you. Trailer tires should also be inflated to the max psi as indicated on the tire (90 psi for # AM30820) for longest life and best performance. An under inflated trailer tire will experience excessive heat build up and could fail.

  • Is Kenda 12 Inch Trailer Tire / Wheel Combo Balanced
The wheel/tire combos we offer are not balanced at the factory. When the tire is mounted to the wheel, the high or heavy spot on the wheel is matched to the low or light spot on the tire, which leaves the wheel and tire somewhat balanced. You can have the wheel/tire balanced if you wish to, but it is not as important to have perfectly balanced tires used for trailers as it is with a passenger vehicle. The Taskmaster 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" White Spoke Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C # AM30820, has a highway speed rating, but they consider this 65 mph maximum. Typically, you will want to go by the rating for the wheel when torquing down lug nuts if it is specified and/or lower than what the lug nut is rated for. For the wheel included with the tire and wheel combo # AM30820, the specs for the wheel indicate that the lug nuts should be torqued to 50 to 75 foot pounds. You should re-torque them at 10 miles, 25 miles, and 50 miles, and then periodically after that.

In regards to choosing the correct wheel/tire for a trailer hub, the hub bore really only matters when using hub piloted wheels and most wheels for trailers are not hub piloted. Instead, for lug piloted wheels the hub pilot of the wheel simply needs to be larger than the hub bore of the hub.
