Question:

I just sent another email. I wanted to give you details. What I would like to buy are the DrawTite 24843 and the Stromberg Carlson CC100. Will they work together?

The hitch that you referenced, the Class I Draw-Tite Sportframe # 24843, is a correct fit for your 2012 Mazda 3 and bolts on using included hardware and without drilling or welding. For reference I have linked you to two helpful articles concerning hitch installation tips.

A Class I hitch is a light-duty type that has modest tongue weight and towing weight capacities (200-lbs and 200-lbs respectively). You can use a cargo carrier with a Class I hitch...BUT....it must also be rated as a Class I product to ensure compatibility. The Stromberg Carlson cargo carrier # CC-100 you referenced only works with Class III and above hitches that have a 2-inch receiver opening.

The link provided will show you all Class I cargo carriers that will fit the 1-1/4-inch Class I hitch on your Mazda 3.

Keep in mind that your hitch's 200-lb tongue weight rating (tongue weight is the downward force on the hitch) must not be exceeded. The combined total weight of your carrier and what you load into it cannot exceed the hitch's limit. I suggest the Curt # C18110 Cargo Carrier since it is cost-effective and has an angled shank to provide better ground clearance. This 30-lb carrier will leave you approximately 170-lbs of cargo weight capacity for your loaded cargo.
