Differences Between Draw-Tite and Curt Hitches for 2020 Subaru Ascent
Published 11/13/2019 >
Question:
The C13400 and the 76253 hitches both show are a fit for my 2020 Subaru Ascent but they look completely different. Why do they look so different and which one do you recommend?

Yes, both the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13400 and the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76253 are confirmed to fit your 2020 Subaru Ascent and are both rated to tow 5,000 lbs. The main reason for their very different designs is the final look once the hitches are installed.
The installation of the # 76253 hitch is more involved, requiring temporary removal of the bumper/fascia and permanent removal of the impact structure, which is then replaced by the hitch itself. After it's installed, the Draw-Tite hitch is completely invisible, allowing you to maintain the OEM look of your Ascent. The hitch receiver is hidden behind the center panel of your bumper, offering superior ground clearance at around 24 inches off the ground. This hitch also has a higher tongue weight capacity of 750 lbs and is compatible with the use of weight distribution.
The Curt # C13400, on the other hand has a more straight forward installation. It consists of basically lowering or removing your spare tire, trimming the heat shield and inserting the hardware before torquing it to specs. The Curt hitch receiver and crosstube hang right below the bumper, completely visible, and much lower than the Draw-Tite, offering considerably less ground clearance at 13-3/4 inches from the ground. The tongue weight capacity of this hitch is maxed at 675 lbs.
If you are like me and you value looks over ease of installation, then the Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 76253 is your best choice.
I've attached installation videos as well as a photo that shows what the hitches look like once installed.
