Does The Heat Shield Need To Be Removed To Install A Curt Trailer Hitch On A 2020 Subaru Ascent
Published 09/15/2023 >
Question:
Hi, I had Uhaul install a Curt hitch on my 2020 Ascent and it is this one that bolts to the underside. I noticed a rattle afterwards and the installer pointed out it is because the heat shield is right up against the hitch and the vehicle vibrations are causing that. Should he have removed that piece altogether before installing?

Expert Reply:
The heat shield on your 2020 Subaru Ascent should have been trimmed so that it doesn't rub against the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13400 and make noise. It sounds to me like your installer was just too lazy to do the job properly. I would take it back and have them trim it around the hitch or you can do it yourself if you don't trust them to do a good job.
