Question:

I just purchased Thule Bike Rack Part #TH9028XT which uses a 40mm bolt to attach to the trailer hitch. I want to put a lock on the hitch part # MPG2174 which uses a 1/2inch diameter bolt. Is this bolt thread compatible with the bike rack??? If not what lock can I use??? I dont want to spend $50 on a lock

The Thule Vertex 2 Bike Rack TH9028XT is a nice bike rack. Unfortunately each manufacturer has a different threaded hitch pin to use as a lock and anti-rattle device for their bike racks and unfortunately they are not compatible with each other. Each manufacturer make sure their hitch pin is slightly different to ensure their product gets used for compatibility and warranty purposes. I recommend using the Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device # THSTL2 to secure your rack.

The Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock for Malone Cargo Carriers with 1-1/4" and 2" Shanks # MPG2174 is not compatible with your bike rack as only the Thule locking hitch pin will fit.
