Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - 63847 Review

Today we'll be taking a look at part number 63847. This is the Tow Ready hitch ball with the of 2 5/16 inch diameter and a medium shank, rated at 7500 pounds. The diameter of our shank is right at an inch, and the length of our shank is 2 1/8 long. This is going to fit ball mounts with a thickness of 3/8 of an inch to 7/8 of an inch. It has this nice strong finish which is going to help it stand up against the elements, and again it's rated at 7500 pounds. We'll go ahead and show you how it is installs. What you do is you take your ball mount and take your ball.

Slide it through the hole. Put on the lock washer and secure it with the knot. Now, you will want it to be sure to go and twerk it down to the manufacturer's recommendations. Once we would have that finger tight, what you do is you take your inch, secure it here at the holds. Take another inch and twerk it down to the specifications from the manufacturer.

Now, it's going to complete today's review of part number 63847, the hitch ball from Tow Ready. .

Well made and the finish is very nice. The threads are smooth and there are wrench flats on the ball side, makes tightening the nut easier. It should be noted that the load rating on this one is 7500 lbs, due to the one inch shank. A good value at Etrailer. 727005

I just bought a new trailer that is 7 feet longer than my last and heavier and I now have a truck instead of an SUV so I needed to get a new weight distribution hinge with sway control. etrailer had all the best brands at the best price and delivery was fast. Unfortunately that's all I can comment on so far. I'm not picking up the new trailer till mid April, so I can't comment on how well it works or show pictures. I'll update later. 616699

  • What Size Wrenches Should be Used to Install Trailer Hitch Ball # 63847
The wrench flats on hitch ball # 63847 measure 1.82 inches from one to the other which is a hair over 1-13/16 inches. The nut from flat to flat is 1.45 inches (slightly more than 1-7/16 inches) or from point to point 1.67 inches (slightly less than 1-11/16 inches).

  • Availability of Curt Ball Mount # C45070 with Ball
For the Curt Ball Mount (4" Rise and 6" Drop) # C45070 that comes with a hitch ball you can use part # C45065 for a 2-5/16" ball or # C45064 for a 2" ball. Both options feature the same 7,500 pound towing weight capacity. Just keep in mind that the hitch ball does come pre-torqued from the factory with the unit in the drop position. It will require a bit of force to remove the ball so that you can flip the mount but you can certainly do this if needed. Otherwise you can simply order...

  • Can the Gen-Y Glyder Shock Absorbing Ball Mount Be Used with Surge Brakes
I spoke with Gen-Y about the Gen-Y Glyder Shock Absorbing Ball Mount part # 325-GH-12001 and they informed me that it can indeed be used with a trailer that has surge brakes. Therefore, the up and down cushioning mechanism will not have any affect on the in and out mechanism of the surge brake actuator. If you need a hitch ball as well, you can use part # 40038 for 2" or part # 63847 for 2-5/16".

  • Does Curt Hitch Fit All Models Of 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ and Trailer Wiring Recommendation
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" part # 13084 is a fit for all models of the 2000 Jeep Cherokee however XJ is not a model. XJ is what the second generation (1983-2001) of Jeep Cherokees are called so the hitch will fit your 2000 Jeep Cherokee however it will require drilling through the frame mounted, closed sided steel skid shield if the Jeep has one which is why I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13160 because it does not require drilling at...

  • Rise and Drop of Gen-Y Glyder Shock Absorbing Ball Mount
I confirmed that the Gen-Y Glyder Shock Absorbing Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # 325-GH-12001 does have a 3-1/2 inch rise and 2 inch drop. Or, for a maximum 8 inch rise and 6 inch drop you can add the Replacement Ball Platform for Gen-Y Glyder Ball Mount # 325-GH-12010. This will give you a much smoother ride than a traditional ball mount due to its inner bar that is surrounded by rubber cords to absorb the shock that occurs when towing. For a hitch ball with this mount you can use either...

  • Clamp-On Weight Distribution System Needed for a Variety of Trailer Sizes
We do have a weight distribution (WD) system that will fit your various trailer size needs, but if your current trailer hitch/ball mount is already hitting the ground during some of the driveways you have to turn in to I'm not sure if adding a WD system to the mix is a good idea. The shank and head unit will hit the ground and if your driveways are steep enough I doubt the bars are meant to flex that much. If you still need the WD system then the Blue Ox SwayPro systems have clamp-on...

The ball mount is rated for up to 5,000 lbs n the drop position so you simply need to use a hitch ball rated for 3,750 lbs or more. I recommend the 2 inch ball # 63845 or the 2-5/16 inch ball # 63847 depending on which matches your coupler. Both are rated for 7,500 lbs so they will work well. The Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount...

The only thing to consider is the depth of your bumper is greater than the typical step bumper. I've attached a photo to assist.
