Question:
I need to extend my hitch by about four inches so I can open my camper door past the trailer tongue jack. I have an F350 Super Duty with a 21,000/2100 pound hitch on it. So, reducing the capacity by 50 is not a problem. Im currently using a 3inch to 2inch reducer that gives me about 4 or 5 inches of extension. I need an additional 4 inches. The trailer is about 8000#. How can you help? Thanks!

We do have a large selection of hitch extenders that will allow for the needed clearance between your tailgate and jack. The shortest extender we have available for 2 inch receivers that has the required capacity for your 8,000 pound trailer is the Roadmaster # RM-071-1075. This extender measures 7-3/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole on truck's hitch to the center of the hitch pin hole on the adapter. It has a 10,000 pound towing weight capacity.
As you mentioned, using an adapter like this will reduce your trailer hitch capacity by 50 percent.
Since you don't really need too much of an extension to clear the jack another good option is to just use a different ball mount that features a longer shank, such as the Convert-A-Ball # AMSC2 that measures 9-1/2 inches from the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole or the even longer Brophy # BH20, which has a 13-1/4 inch length. Going this route will eliminate the need for an additional adapter piece and also allow you to maintain the capacity on your trailer hitch.
I have also included a link that will take you to our available selection of ball mounts that feature a longer shank like these that you can look through.
