Can Curt or EcoHitch Class III Hitches for 2021 Subaru Forester Serve as Towing/Recovery Points

Question:
I have a 2021 Subaru Forester Sport and researching trailer hitches. Since the Curt and Eco Hitch mounting points cover the hole for the OEM screw-in tow hook/Pin, is the hitch strong enough to be a tow point should I get stuck in the muck? Thanks!

Absolutely!
In many instances on vehicles where there's a tow hook bolted to the underside of the vehicle, a hitch installation would require that they be removed. Even though that's not the case with your vehicle, the situation is common enough that Curt and EcoHitch purposely design their hitches knowing that they might need to be used as a recovery point at some future time. Both the Curt # C47HR and the EcoHitch # 306-X7391 hitches are built strong enough that they can be used as recovery points, as confirmed by both hitch manufacturers.
If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the less expensive Curt model. The EcoHitch has a higher tongue weight capacity, but since the owner's manual lists the maximum tongue weight the vehicle can handle as being 150 lbs, you'd be limited to that anyway and the tongue weight capacity of the hitch would be a moot point anyway. The quality and finish of the Curt hitch is on par with that of the EcoHitch, so this is an instance where you can choose the less expensive option and not have to feel like you sacrificed to save a few bucks.
If you'll be using the hitch to tow with, you'll also need a trailer wiring harness like # 118467, a ball mount like # AMSC2 and a trailer ball like # 19260 for a 1-7/8 or # 63845 for a 2 inch trailer ball.
