Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.
Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring. Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system and is made using SMT to ensure superior performance. The kit was complete with all the required connections. Installation was easy and straightforward.
I’ve installed 3 of these and all 3 fail within 2 months, even tried installing the control box inside the car( you are supposed to stick it outside under the back) and it still failed. It may just be not compatible with a 2012 Subaru Impreza, I finally gave up and rigged up a diy battery operated switch system because we do not camp often it works good enough.
Was exactly as advertised. Fairly easy to install with some standard tools. I recommend soldering the wires instead of butt connectors. Only issue was adhesive pad was not sticky at all. But some gorilla tape did the trick.
Fantastic kit! Just like the video shows, this is a very easy install. The only pain was running the line up to the battery and avoiding any moving or hot parts.
Install took a little over an hour, with most of the time running the wire to the battery.
I installed to our 2010 Impreza wagon.
I did use electrical tape to loom up the wires (the black looks less noticable) and zip tied the wire along the hitch. Be sure you keep the wires away from the muffler which will get hot.
Very high quality! Fast delivery! I will always continue to recommend and do business with you guys. No photos yet as this is a Christmas gift for my 16 old son.
Thank you!!!
Great kit. Plug and play. Very straight forward. Running the power cable to the battery is tricky, but that's no fault of the kit.
This is not the easiest of installs because the Subaru Impreza/WRX isn't really designed with trailer lights in mind and apparently doesn't have appropriate power run to the back of the vehicle. So this kit requires one wire be run straight to the battery. That's easier said than done because the kit doesn't really tell you where to run that wire.
I certainly didn't want to use self drilling screws and hang the wire under the car, I could see that getting snagged on something eventually. What I did was drill two holes in the "frame" rail under the car to get the wire under the passenger cabin inside the frame rail where it will be protected. I supplied my own rubber grommets to protect the wire from the sharp holes I drilled. After the frame rail on the WRX there is a plastic gas tank protector that the wire can be run behind. It's tricky to find routing around the rear suspension and exhaust which you have to avoid too.
One other gripe I'll mention here is the tag on the harness kit clearly mentions you must put the electrical box inside the vehicle to maintain the warranty. At the same time the kit is clearly not designed to be mounted inside the vehicle, all the connections are outside and they don't provide any rubber weather tight grommets that would be required to get the wires outside to the box inside.
I wouldn't rate this a complete kit. Parts I needed that weren't included:
-Curt 57204 and 58300 brackets to hold the flat four connector
-Rubber grommets to protect wire from frame rail
-The hanging wire method requires the hangers mentioned in the video, which incidentally aren't available in any of the three major hardware stores near me.
-A bunch more zip ties
-Some wire loom would be nice
-Solder, heat shrink tubing and a small torch: please don't use crimp connectors under a vehicle, they corrode and make a bad connection eventually.
Works perfect with my Subaru Impreza hatchback. I had my mechanic print the rear electrical wiring diagram for my car. I tapped into the 15 amp power supply at the trunk light instead of running under the car to the battery to get power.
I also picked up the hitch mounting bracket for the wiring:
It looks nice and clean and is always ready to tow my landscaping trailer.

Dane,Thank you for your review. It is important to run the power wire directly to the positive side of the battery and not any other power supply on the vehicle. This wiring harness is made for vehicles that have sensitive wiring and is designed to pull amperage directly from the battery. Failure to connect the power wire to the battery may result in damage to the vehicle wiring. I have attached a link to help with routing the power wire.

It made it easy to hook up an Impreza harness, since Subaru did NOT provide an easy-plug harness (like they do on Foresters, etc). We had a minor problem due to our poor ground, but redrilled a hole and cleaned up the paint, and it worked w/a better ground.

Works perfectly after one year! We use it almost weekly.
Awesome love the products my Subaru loves pulling my camper to New Hampshire and and getting hay weekly and yes my 2011 Subaru wrx pulls hard
The harness doesn't work. Power goes into black converter module but no power coming out.
About 6 months after I installed this unit I started getting weird lighting issues with my car. I went out one morning and found my turn signal on without my keys even being in the ignition or the signal switch on. Then my brake lights stopped working and I was almost rear ended multiple times before I realized they were out. As soon as I remained the trailer wiring all my lighting problems were solved. The module must have not been to weather proof and failed causing my issues.
Our mechanic, who installed the products we purchased on eTrailer, reported that the hitch was good quality, but somewhat tricky to install on our Subaru Impreza. They had to drill custom holes in the car body to fit the hitch frame. They also needed to run the wires from the car battery up front through the interior of the car (through panels and the trunk) to reach the wiring harness for the hitch. The full installation will end up costing around $250 in addition to the $*** for parts. I was impressed with eTrailer's customer service with a single rep assigned to each customer!
Purchased the Curt T Connector about a month ago. Was asked to review the product. So here goes. I didn't get a chance to install it until today. First let me say I am an avid DIYer. I build or fix everything. So this was really a sweet product. I would rate it as anyone with simple hand tools can do a great job. First it was straight forward and installed just like it said. No issues at all. It took a bit longer than suggested as I need to run the power line and secure it to the unibody of the Subaru. Works great looks good as you can not tell it is there. The only real complaint is the electrical connectors, they are really cheap as I broke the first 2 I tried to crimp. So I just soldered the connections and used a blister wrap to protect the wires.
I bought the etrailer kit for a 2011 Impreza. The installation was a snap and after a year, it has never failed, the connector housing and weather cover have remained in good condition. I saved a lot by doing it myself, following the included, well written instructions.
I am coming back for any future wiring needs.
Good kit and glad to have to get my trailer lights hooked up. Fitted my 09 Impreza great. Only 1 thing the sticky pad that attaches the relay box attached to the under said of the bumper well but it would not stay attached to the relay box. So the relay box kept falling off. So I ended up just wrapping it with electrical tape to the backside off my hitch and that works fine.
This wiring harness works great. Installation videos from E trailer were very helpful. The instructions that came with the harness were not for my exact model. E trailer products and shipping were amazing as usual.
Great product, very easy to install. Installed on my 08’ Impreza outback sport. It is a true “plug and play” install, no wires to cut, just route the wiring harness and hook up the connections.
Looks like a good product however it was not what I needed. I mistakenly ordered trailer wiring instead of tow car wiring. It should have been obvious to etrailer that I was making a common mistake and questioned my purchase since I was also buying parts to tow that car instead of towing something with it. Now I have to eat the purchase and buy another correct part.
I like that I didn't have to hack into any wires with this system. It's almost completely plug and play. The only difficult part was running the power wire from the unit up to the battery. Crawling under my Impreza was really tight and I wasn't sure if the wire was near anything that would destroy it. So, i epoxied 4 metal hoops/rings (had them in my toolbox but you could get metal tubing at a hardware store and cut four short rings) along the frame rail underneath on the drivers side and ran the power wire through them. I still had to finagle the wire up and through the rear axle/exhaust area though.
This harness was near perfect, the hardest thing was cleaning a spot for the control module to mount to. It's been a while since I installed this so the details are fuzzy but I don't recall any difficulties.
When I connected to my trailer everything worked, after I fixed a bad ground.
Great product. Install on my Subaru Impreza wasn't too bad once I drilled a hole and fished the hot lead through the firewall. Instructions were easy to follow, and I was happy that the converter came with an adhesive pad to hide it away behind the bumper without rattling around.
Have not installed yet, but was very impressed with fast delivery and great customer service!
Initially I was hesistant to spend so much money on a plug and play unit when I can wire a standard wiring kit just fine, however, I’m glad I did buy this kit. The weather sealed plugs give me piece of mind that I won’t get corrosion in the connections down the road.
I would buy again!!
I've been happy with the wiring harness.
It works well and has been durable.
