Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on vehicles with restricted wheel well clearance. Certain newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large, aftermarket tires - may require Class S chains.

SAE Class S Clearances

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle itself.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

So for they are working great mor me on our Grand Cherokee. It is important to aligncenter them as I have had friends that didn’t and they had to bend them back in shape.

Fit nicely to the rear tires of our 2013 Buick Enclave. Taking it to Lake Tahoe area tomorrow (the Sierra received a record 9 feet of snow this month). We'll see how well they hold up.

The etrailer.com site was easy to navigate and match cables to tire size. The one question I submitted by e-mail was answered promptly. Online purchase was easy. Cables arrived "free shipping" in two days in good condition. I'll have to wait for the first opportunity to see if I am smart and coordinated enough to mount the cables on the tires and assess the fit, and probably longer still to try them in the first snow deep enough to warrant their use.

Review from a similar V-Track Cable in Tire Chains

These chains were a lifesaver! Our ski trip to Mt. Hood Meadows was only possible because of these chains. Oregon has strict chain laws, but rental car companies will not rent you chains. Because we were to arrive in Oregon the day after Christmas, when no tire stores would be open, I had to figure out an alternate plan. After lots of research to determine which rental car make/model we were likely to get and the most common tire sizes on those vehicles, I purchased these light and portable chains and we brought them with us from the East coast. Other reviewers indicated these chains were easy to install & remove, and we can confirm they are! The folks at etrailer were really helpful when I emailed. And the website is extremely user-friendly, with videos showing installation and a quick and easy way to determine the most likely tire sizes on a vehicle. Thank you etrailer for making our holiday ski trip possible!

Review from a similar V-Track Cable in Tire Chains

Haven't used tire cables yet … but … did install one to check the fit and look. And the thing fit perfectly on my 2019 F150 with 245/70r17 tires. Even look pretty good too! I especially like that the cables can be put on as the truck sets - no need to lay them out and back over them. And the carrying bag is nice - keeps everything together and able to be stored under a seat, in the bed, or wherever. I thought about getting chains with v-bars … but didn't think I needed anything that aggressive - so the tire cables ought to do just fine in deeper snow, packed snow and maybe even on ice.

Comments
Great accessory for winter driving! I had to use the cables while hunting in the western mountains of Maine in mid November- and they gave my F150 2WD the traction it needed to navigate some logging roads caked with snow and ice. Highly recommend them for on-road vehicles. And, was able to install them without moving the truck!

Review from a similar V-Track Cable in Tire Chains

It is such a hassle to buy cable chains in a store and you are never quite sure they will fit. Buying them from etrailer was super easy and the quality is much better.

Review from a similar V-Track Cable in Tire Chains

The set of Cable Chains I bought were clearly used or returns.
The spider tighteners had use marks on them and the cables themselves had clearly been tried out, or on, and just thrown into the carry bag with the twisty-ties thrown in the bottom.
Bummed me out some, but I didn’t have time to complain at the time as I got them just in time to drive back up to Alaska.
When I got back to Alaska I sent off a review.
Y’all can do better. I believed I’d bought something new, not a retread.

Review from a similar V-Track Cable in Tire Chains

They are a rather snug fit on my Honda CRV 235/60R18 tires but worked beautifully on my very icy hillside 1/3 mile driveway. Easy to put on. Very happy to have them.

Review from a similar V-Track Cable in Tire Chains

These were mounted on a 2017 Fiat 500 Sport. Last February we drove from Quartzsite Arizona thru Santa Fe New Mexico to Denver, Boulder, and then spent 3 weeks in Aspen Colorado before heading west back to Quartzsite. In Aspen it snowed nearly every day and I put the chains on and removed the chains multiple times. By the third cycle I had the installation wired and could install them on the side of the road in a raging blizzard in less than 5-6 minutes - with gloves on. Great product that worked incredibly well. We could have never done the trip without them.

Review from a similar V-Track Cable in Tire Chains

Chains arrived just a few days late due to supply issues but one day prior to a Seattle snowstorm! The advice I received from etrailer was invaluable. I will be purchasing a trailer hitch for my 2019 Subaru Crosstrek next year. Way to go etrailer!

Received chains much earlier than I expected. etrailer is great to work with. Got notice when they shipped and confirmation when I received them. Watched their installation video and was able to install my chains easily. They fit perfectly and looking forward to hitting the mountain snow!

  • Can I Put Tire Chains On My 265/65/18 Sized Tires On A 2015 Chevy Tahoe
I am not sure what specific issues may occur in your 2015 Chevy Tahoe if you install tire chains. They usually involve the inside of the tire hitting something. I do know that your owner's manual advises against it. If you believe you have enough clearance the Titan Chain Diagonal Alloy Cable Snow Tire Chains - Light Truck - 1 Pair, part # TC747DC, are the correct size Titan snow tire chains you will need. I have included a product description link, a demo link, and a video review link below.

  • Recommended Tire Chains for 265/50-20 Tires on 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
According to the owner's manual, Jeep recommends using cable type chains, due to the limited clearance between the tire and wheel well and between the inside of the tire and suspension/brake components. I'd recommend the Titan Chain Diagonal Alloy Cable Snow Tire Chains, part # TC747DC. The diagonal design means that a portion of the cable chain will be in constant contact with the road surface for better lateral stability and a smoother ride. The chain set also includes the rubber adjusters...

  • Which Snow Tire Chains Should I Use On My 2020 Ford F-150 With 265-70R17 Tires
If you don't plan on using the snow tire chains very often, then I would go with Titan Chain Diagonal Alloy Cable Snow Tire Chains - Light Truck - 1 Pair # TC747DC. This is a cable design which is typically easier to install and use than chains, and they will be less likely to damage your vehicle if they happen to break. Rubber adjusters are included which will keep the cables tight on your truck's wheels. These are not recommended for heavy snow. If you plan to use the tire chains often,...

  • Recommended Snow Cables for 2015 GMC Acadia with Limited Clearance
I took a look at the online owner's manual for your 2015 GMC Acadia and did find that it is not recommended to use tire chains on this vehicle because of the limited clearance. It does go on to say, however, that another type of traction device may be used if necessary. I recommend checking your copy of the owner's manual or with a local dealer to see if Chevy consideres cables to be an acceptable alternative. The only snow cables we have available for the 225/50-20 size tires on your...

  • Recommended Tire Chains for 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500
According to the owner's manual of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, you would not be able to use chains on your size tires due to clearance issues, but you would be able to use other traction devices which should be placed on the rear wheels. The owner's manual does not specify whether or not the cable-style device constitute "chains" so I recommend contacting your Chevy dealer to ensure you can use cables on your tires or not. If you can, there are two options available for you, each...

I was able to research online and found that a 2019 Ram 3500 Dually is equipped with 235/80-17 tires so if that is the case then you can use the Titan Chain Diagonal Alloy Cable Snow Tire Chains part # TC747DC. If your tandem axle horse trailer has brakes on both axles then ideally you will want to install compatible tire chains on both axles, all four tires. Even if you do not need the chains to slow the trailer they will still help to avoid lateral movement of the trailer on the road. Laws vary by state concerning use of tire chains on trailers.
