Video Transcript for U-Bolt Plate Feature Review

Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today I'm gonna take a look at this U-bolt plate for the two and three eighths inch diameter round trailer axle with the one in three quarter inch wide leaf springs. Now this is designed to fit the two and three eighths inch diameter round trailer axles which are mostly the 3,500 pound axles. And this plate here is used with U-bolts to secure the axle to the leaf springs which are then mounted to the trailer frame. And this plate here does attach with two half inch diameter U-bolts.

Now, I did want pop up an inserts to show you, there's what the suspension system would look like and you can see it marks where the U-bolts are and where the U-bolt plate is, just to give you an idea. Now this part here is just for the U-bolt plate but we do also sell the U-bolt separately. It's part number SPO1-040 and then we also sell a whole kit if you need the plate and the bolts. That whole kit we sell separately as part number CE23002. Typically, the U-bolts and the plates are replaced together when you replace your springs.

That is because the U-bolts are generally rusted and most often need to be cut off the suspension system in order to be removed. This plate here is constructed of a zinc plated steel. It is designed, as we mentioned, to work with one in three quarter inch wide leaf springs. Just give you a few specs on this plate. Overall dimension, if we do the length from one end to the other is four and three quarter inches long.

The width gonna be right at three and three quarter inches wide. Now the length from the center of the bolt hole to the center of the bolt hole, if we go this way, center to center is gonna measure right at three inches. And then if we go width wise, which would be the U-bolt goes in these two holes, center to center there is two and three eighths inches. The bolt holes themselves are nine sixteenths inch diameter. But that should do it for the review on this U-bolt plate for two and three eighths inch diameter round trailer axles with the one in three quarter inch wide leaf springs.

Worked exactly as described, and having the dimensions listed is very helpful. After getting my plates, I had my trailer on the axle and moved out of the shop within minutes! Would highly recommend.

by:

I ordered the item from etrailer.com because it was inexpensive and fast shipping and it was exactly what I needed, all the stores around me were out of item and guessing on size.

by:

Very good stamping, dimensionally correct, perfect fit. Nice gauge used comparable to the original on the trailer. Overall good quality item!

by:

I'm wondering if Pot is legal in the warehouse state because there is a total disconnect between ordering and receiving which has delayed a simple leaf spring swap into a 3 week job with extraordinary frustration.

by:

I bolt plate fit good. They’re not plated so they’ll probably rust since I’m using them on a boat trailer…

  • Determining If Dent In Torsion Axle Is Causing Driving Vibrations
Thanks for the pictures! That does look like a good size dent but the axle may not be bent. What I recommend is removing the hubs and taking a look at the bearings for any abnormal wear, and go ahead and repack the bearings if they look good still. Likely the spindle nut loosened up giving you the excessive play you mentioned. You will want to place the hub on the spindles while rocking it back and forth to seat the bearings in the races. Next tighten the spindle nut until it stops...

  • U-Bolts & U-Bolt Plate For Trailer Axle e72GR
The correct 5-1/2" U-bolts and U-bolt plates for the Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs # e72GR are the following: - U-Bolt with Nuts for 2-3/8" Round Trailer Axles - 1/2" Diameter # 176400 - U-Bolt Plate - 2-3/8" Diameter, Round Trailer Axle - 1-3/4" Wide Spring - 1/2" Bolts # TRTP238175 You can get them individually since you mentioned only needing seven, but it does also come in a kit that has four U-bolts and plates, the U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 3,500-lb, Round Trailer Axles - 5-1/2" Long...

  • Replacement Top Plate for 26" Leaf Springs
Thanks for reaching out, David! We do have replacement top plates, like the U-Bolt Plate # TRTP238175 for a 2-3/8" diameter axle, or the U-Bolt Plate # TRU69FR for a 3" diameter axle. We also have a selection of 26" long leaf springs that I'm linking for you to filter through. The most common weight capacities are 2K # e77SR, 4K # e22YR, and 6K # e94SR.

  • Are Trailer Leaf Spring Weight Capacities Listed Per Axle or Spring
The leaf springs we carry like the part # e54SR are rated by the axle capacity they were intended to be used on. So this spring is designed for a 3,500 lb axle. It has an individual spring capacity of 1,750 lbs. To pick out the u-bolts you'd need I'd need to know the diameter of your axles. Most likely it's 2-3/8 inch so you'd need the # SP01-040 for the U-bolts and then for plates # TRTP238175. Then for new shackle bolts you'd just need the # 126B2 and you'd be set.
