Video Transcript for An In-Depth Look at the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Add-On Kit for Triple Axle Trailers

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look at this Roadmaster Comfort Ride Add-on Kit for triple-axle trailers. This add-on shock kit is going to adapt your Roadmaster Comfort Ride system for use with a triple-axle trailer with leaf spring suspensions. And this is going to fit your three inch diameter, 5,200 pound to 7,000 pound axles. And on your screen, I am including the model number of that Comfort Ride system that this kit is going to work with. And as you can see, these shocks are banded at the install height, so this is how you are going to receive them.

And this is a bolt-on installation, which includes everything that you're going to need to install this. It includes the tie plates with extension pieces that will replace your existing U-bolt plates. The upper brackets mount on your trailer frame with the included hardware, and the shocks attach to the tie plate extensions and to the upper brackets to help dampen movement of your axle. The extended length of these shocks when they're fully extended is gonna be 17 1/2 inches from eye to eye. And then when they're fully compressed, it's going to be 11 1/2 inches.

Instructions are included to guide you through the installation process. And this does have a limited lifetime warranty from Roadmaster. (metal clanking) Well, that's gonna wrap up our brief look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy.

Thank you for joining me.

My axles are attached above the leaf springs. This complicated the installation a bit but was not prohibitive. I have tandem axles and purchased two(2) of these kits for the trailer. Immediately, we noticed that the trailer was more stable when parked without the outriggers deployed. I wish I could get detailed drawing of the shock brackets. Knowing the designed angle where the shock absorbers mount would have been very helpful with the installation.

I am leaving for my first road trip and look forward to the increased stability during towing and not having the trailer contents thrown about during transport.

Installed two of theses on a Tracer 23RBS, 28Ft. Had everything needed for complete install, decent quality. Instructions had just enough info for proper install. Gas shocks a plus, anticipating a more stable ride.

Prior to installing this kit, the tires would contact the wood floor of the 5th wheel (Cougar 25RES) and were starting to wear a groove. Now that the kit has been installed the rubbing has stopped. I've also noticed the drawers, that had previously self-opened, are now staying shut. Installation was fairly straight forward. I drilled and tapped the holes, for the plates, as the self-tapping screws refused to go in straight. I also put a nut on the outside screws, the others are blocked by the belly pan.

Very well. We just drove the Alcan and the stretch of road from the Alaska border to Destruction Bay can best be described as an RV demolition course, due to melting permafrost. The suspension performed well, with no issues. Many an RV have substantial damage on this section, especially trailers, as most have under-engineered suspensions. The shocks, most likely, have saved me some grief.

@Ronald That sounds like quite the trip! I am sure the scenery makes it all worthwhile. I am glad to hear the comfort-ride system is making such a big difference for the ride quality. Thanks for sharing!

Installation Review (will update after road test) Great tutorial video. Highly recommend a quality bolt/nut loosening solution. Makes a big difference. Rented an angle drill for the top bracket 5/16th" holes due to low clearance (I ended up buying one it was so useful). Job went smoothly. I wouldn't cut your underbelly until after the install. I may not cut mine at all. Top of shock pushes against it but that shouldn't cause a problem. I added a number of photos, to include the solvent and jack. Top notch company with high quality merchandise.

What I like better than the products are the people and support received
from EVERYONE I have talked to at etrailer. If Forest River was half this good, I might buy another one, but most of the questions or problems I have come across with our fifth wheel have been solved by someone here after talking to a generic moron at the manufacturer.
eTrailer ROCKS!!!

This has got to be one of the best purchases that I have ever made. Angela was awesome to deal with when ordering, the package was delivered in great shape all items accounted for, clear precise instructions and the final result that I was expecting. All in all a great place to do business

  • What is Warranty of Roadmaster Comfort Ride Triple Axle Add On Kit
Hey Dave, sorry for the confusion on that. I checked with Roadmaster and the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Add-On Kit for Triple Axle Trailers # RM-2460-50 that you referenced does have a limited lifetime warranty. I sent an update to have this information corrected on the product page.

  • Difference Between The Roadmaster Comfort Ride Kits RM-2460-2580-3, RM69NQ, And RM-2460-2570-3
I can definitely help with that, Larry! There are differences between the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Kits # RM-2460-2580-3 # RM69NQ and # RM-2460-2570-3 and I have them listed below. They all include the Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers - 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb Axle # RM-2460 and Comfort Ride Add-On Kit for Triple Axle Trailers - 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb Axles # RM-2460-50, but the leaf springs between them are all different. # RM-2460-2580-3 Roadmaster Comfort Ride Slipper...

  • Will Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shocks RM-2460 Fit A 2019 Forest River Sierra 357RE 5th Wheel Trailer?
Based on the pictures you provided the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers - 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb Axle # RM-2460 will fit your 2019 Forest River Sierra 357RE 5th wheel trailer with tandem 7000lb Dexter axles. The # RM-2460-50 you were looking at is a single add on kit for a triple axle trailer, and isn't what you would use on your tandem axle trailer. This kit will do a fantastic job of improving the ride and towing quality of your trailer as the nitrogen filled...

  • Shock Kit Recommendation for 2022 Coleman Dutchmen Lantern 17B
The best shock kit for your 2022 Coleman Dutchmen Lantern 17B that has 3 inch underslung axles is the Roadmaster Comfort Ride kit part # RM-2460-50. This will make a huge difference in the smoothness of your trailer's ride.

  • Will the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Add-On Kit Work On Underslung Axles?
Yes, there are single axle shock kits for underslung axles. This are typically used to add on shocks for the extra axle on triple axle trailers but they also work on single axle applications. These shocks will work on overslung and underslung axles. If you have a 2-3/8" diameter 3,500 lbs axle you will want the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Add-On Kit item # RM-2450-50. If you have a 3" diameter 5,200 lbs to 7,000 lbs axle you will need the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Add-On Kit item # RM-2460-50.

  • Are Shocks Still Needed When Adding a Shock Absorbing Equalizer to a Triple Axle 5TH Wheel Trailer?
As your 2005 Keystone Raptor 3212DS is a triple axle you will need a kit like the MORryde Rubber Equalizers for Triple Axle Trailers # MR39ZR. The Lippert Road Armor # LC696740 will only fit on tandem axle trailers. I do recommend also installing the Wet Bolt Kit # MR86ZR with the equalizers. This will allow the suspension to move more freely. While the equalizers and wet bolts above will allow the suspension to absorb some road shock, adding shocks will still improve the overall ride...

  • Are New U-Bolts Needed When Installing New Suspension On An RV
When installing a new suspension system like the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers # RM-2460 you mention, it is not required but a good idea to replace your old U-Bolts. Reason being that, any bolt, of any grade, when torqued, stretches. The better the grade the less it stretches, and I'm assuming manufacturers aren't using the top grade. That being said, when you look at how the suspension system is designed, there is 4 U-Bolts holding the axle, to the springs,...

I have a solution for your 2017 Grand Design Momentum 376th, but there is a not a SuperSprings or Sumo Springs product designed for this application. The best solution to improve the handling and reduce chucking and porpoising on your trailer is the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers - 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb Axle # RM-2460 and Roadmaster Comfort Ride Add-On Kit for Triple Axle Trailers - 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb Axles # RM-2460-50. • Recommended Bolt-On Shock Mount Kit For A 2022 Jayco Jay Flight SLX 7 195RB
The correct kit will depend on the weight capacity and diameter of your axle, but we definitely have a couple options for you to look at. From what I could find about your 2022 Jayco Jay Flight SLX 7 195RB, the GVWR will be 3,995 pounds, so I definitely recommend double checking the axle capacity before going with one of these. With that out of the way, first we have the Lippert Bolt-On Shock Kit w/ Heavy Duty Gas Shocks # LC281255 for a 3,500 pound 2-3/8" axle or # LC281281 for a 5,200...

  • Comparing Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Triple Axle Trailers to Tandem and Add-On Kit
You are correct that they are the same thing. The Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers # RM-2460 combined with the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Add-On Kit # RM-2460-50 will have the same parts as the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Triple Axle Trailers # RM-2460-3. So there is no difference aside from that fact that one is for tandem axles with the add-on kit to upgrade for triple axles and the other comes with everything in one kit for a triple axle trailer.

  • Can Coil Over Shocks Be Used With The Roadmaster Comfort Ride To Add Lift To Suspension?
If you are trying to gain some lift you will want to use a Lift Kit # RR23QX or if your trailer is experiencing sag due to weight adding a couple sets of the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs # SS26MV will help to support the weight and reduce sag. The Roadmaster Comfort Ride # RM-2460-50 was designed with the resistance of the shocks in mind and not an additional spring so they are not going to be strong enough for a type of coil over shock.

  • Shock Absorber Kit That Will Work on Single Axle Trailer With 3 Inch Diameter Axle
We do have a shock kit that will work for your 2022 Jayco Jay Flight with a 3" diameter single axle; it is technically called an add-on kit for Roadmaster's Comfort Ride shocks but can be used for a single axle trailer, which Roadmaster has verified for us. The correct part is the following: - Roadmaster Comfort Ride Add-On Kit # RM-2460-50 The # RM-2460-50 says it is for 5,200 lb to 7,000 lb axles, but it is really for 3" diameter axles - it's just that the most common 3" diameter axles...

  • Timbren Suspension Versus Shock Absorbers for Triple Axle Trailer
All around, shock absorbers like the # LC281255 would provide a smoother ride than a rubber spring like the Timbren SES type system like # TTRA1032. You'll want to be sure to use the correctly rated system for your axle capacity. The # LC281255 you'd looked at is rated for 3500 lb axles, you'd need three of them. For a higher rated 5200-7000 lb axle, use # RM-2460 along with the # 2460-50 add-on.

The Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers - 8,000-lb Axle item # RM-2470 fits 3-1/2" axles. The Roadmaster Comfort Ride Add-On Kit for Triple Axle Trailers - 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb Axles item # RM-2460-50 fits 3" axles. • Can I Use the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Add-On Kit for Triple Axle Trailers on a Single Axle Trailer?
I spoke with my rep at Roadmaster and he said as long as you have a 3" axle then the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Add-On Kit for Triple Axle Trailers item # RM-2460-50 will fit your 22’ Apex Nano trailer as a single axle application. The upper brackets will mount on the trailer frame with included hardware and you will replace your existing u-bolts with tie plate extensions that the shocks will attach to.
