  • Availability of Dexter Axle Brake Assemblies K23-026-00 and K23-027-00
We do have the regular Dexter Axle brakes and their Nev-R-Adjust equivalents. The regular (manually adjusted) brakes that you are wanting are listed as part # 23-26 for the Left Hand side and part # 23-27 for the Right Hand side. Their Nev-R-Adjust equivalents are parts # 23-468 and # 23-469 respectively. The Dexter Axle hub and drum assemblies that we have for a 3,500 lb axle use the Inner Bearing # L68149 and Outer Bearing # L44649. If you have a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern then you want...

  • How to Know When Trailer Brake Magnets are Worn Out and Need Replacing
Are there any visible signs of wear on the magnets like exposed windings then that would indicate they need replacing. Magnets can go bad without showing visible signs of wear though. To see how to troubleshoot them check out the help article I attached. For replacement magnets for the Dexter 10 by 2-1/4 inch assemblies you would want the part # BP01-110. As bad as your assemblies sound you might just want to replace both assemblies. For the left hand side you would want the part # AKEBRK-35L-SA...

  • How to Initially Adjust the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes
The Dexter Nev-R-Adjust electric trailer brakes can be manually adjusted. There are a couple teeth of the adjustment wheel that are exposed just under the lever that you referenced. I have attached a photo showing the teeth. You will likely need a tool with a fine edge such as a flat head screw driver for the adjustment wheel on these brakes. A brake adjustment tool may be too thick. Without an initial manual adjustment, it could take a few braking attempts to adjust the brakes. I was...

  • Replacement Hubs and Brake Assemblies for 2006 Haulmark Thrifty Hauler
Since we know you have a Dexter 3,500 lb axle on your trailer the Hub part # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K is going to fit and work well for you. I would go ahead and replace all of the hub drums now unless you are on a super tight budget. Having everything new on the trailer will give you added peace of mind. The self adjusting brake assemblies part # 23-469 would be correct for the right hand side and then part # 23-468 for the left hand side would be correct as well. These components and the other...

  • How Thick are Dexter 3,500 lb Axle Brake Assembly Shoes
Hey Tim, I've measured the brake pad thickness of the Dexter 3,500 lb axle assembly part # 23-468 and found it to be .18 of an inch. Dexter says to replace them at .0625 inch thickness.

  • Replacement Brakes for a 2011 Jayco Jay Flight G2 32BHDS
It looks like the gross weight rating of your Jayco Jay Flight G2 32BHDS is 9,950 pounds. I am thinking that it has two 5,200 pound axles OR two 4,400 pound axles because they assume the tow vehicle is supporting 13 percent of the trailer tongue weight. If they are 5,200 pound axles then you would need 12 inch brakes with a 5 bolt mounting pattern such as # AKEBRK-6. If they are 4,400 pound axles then you would need 10 inch brakes with a 4 bolt mounting pattern such as # K23-462-463-00. You...

  • Recommended Trailer Brakes for 2006 Bigfoot 21 FT Travel Trailer
From the research that I have done it looks like a 21 ft Bigfoot is going to weigh about 4000 lbs so I am going to assume that it has 4400 lb axles. Since there is a very good chance that it has the 10 inch x 2-1/4 inch brake assemblies, you could use the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assemblies, # K23-478-00 for left hand and # K23-479-00 for right hand. Unfortunately a collective OEM trailer parts catalog does not exist, so the best way to determine what parts you will need is...

  • Where Do The Green Wires On The Dexter Trailer Brake Assembly Connect?
The other green wire from the Brake Assembly # 23-468 will go to the 7-way junction box and receive power from the trailer brake controller. The reason both wires are green is they power an elctromagnet which is not polarity specific so you only need to ensure the one side is grounded and the other is connected to the brake controller circuit.

  • Installing Replacement Hub/Drum/Brake Assemblies on Shasta Camper With 10 x 1-1/2-Inch Brakes
Trailer brakes in the 10 x 1-1/2-inch size are typically welded in place on the axle and are no longer available. But if you have standard 4-bolt brake flanges on your trailer you can install wider 10 x 2-1/4-inch electric brakes along with matching hub/drum assemblies on your existing spindles as long as the bearing numbers match up to the bearings in place now. The linked article will give you background as well as a table on typical component combinations.

  • Where to Lubricate Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes
You have to be careful if you lubricate electric trailer brakes such as # 23-468. You cannot get any grease on the pads or on the inside of the drum because that will have a negative impact on brake performance. The magnet arm and the shoes pivot at a single point each. You can use just some wheel bearing grease such as # L11380 at those locations. Ideally you would completely wipe away any grease prior to adding new grease. It will not take much and that tub of grease, listed above, should...

  • Replacement Hub/Drum and Brake Assemblies for Dexter Hub/Drum 8-249
Hey Damon, so for the replacement hub and drum you'd want the part # 84556UC3 and then for a matching set of left and right brake assemblies that are self adjusting you'd want the part # 23-468-469. The hub is a 3,500 lb trailer axle hub and has the 5 on 5 inch bolt pattern you need as well. For just a left hand assembly you'd want the part # 23-468 or the right hand side part # 23-469.

  • Dexter Never Adjust Brakes Initial Adjustment on Tandem Axle Trialer
The Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3.5K # 23-468-469 are not designed to be manually adjusted in the way you are describing. There isn't really a way to back off the adjustment because they are designed to automatically adjust as needed to maintain correct tension. For adjustment, you should take the trailer to a safe level location where you can hit the electric brake controller hard a few times. To adjust the brakes, the initial...

  • Can Electric Trailer Brakes for a 4,400 Pound Axle be Used in Place of Brakes for a 3,500 Pound Axle
Electric trailer brake assemblies for both 3,500 pound and 4,400 pound axles are 10 x 2-1/4 inches and both have the 4 hole square mounting pattern. So you can use 4,400 pound axles brakes. For the left use # K23-478-00 and for the right use # K23-479-00. These are Nev-R-Adjust assemblies which means after you adjust them the first time you will not have to manually adjust them again.

  • Solution for Over Adjusted Never Adjust Brakes
If you can pull the hub off that is going to be the easiest way to adjust the brakes looser but if it's super tight that might be hard. Otherwise you would have to use a drum brake spoon like the part # W80630 to try and move the adjuster back to a looser setting. You'll have to work against the mechanism that tightens the brake automatically which can be challenging but it is possible.

  • Parts Needed to Convert From Surge to Electric Brakes
The backing plate you are referring to is, I'm assuming, the brake mounting flange, which should be welded on. The dimensions of this are extremely important because it will determine the brake assemblies that fit. The Demco Trailer Brake Mounting Flange # DM60124 has a 2-3/4" pilot hole and has a 4 on 4-13/16" bolt pattern. This is uncommon compared to Brake Mounting Flange # 4-35 which is for 2-3/8" round axles and has 4 bolt holes which are 2-7/8" apart on center, which is what you...

Dexter 10-Inch Nev-R-Adjust electric drum brakes # 23-468 and # 23-469 have a star wheel for initial adjustment, just like regular brakes do, but with these self-adjusting brakes you'll mount them and install your wheel/tire and then rotate the tire so that the internal mechanism can sense the pad tension and self-adjust accordingly. You do not want to set the tension high beforehand as the brake will not be able to release that tension. Please refer to the linked video that explains the...

  • 12 x 2 Inch Electric Trailer Brakes with a 4 Bolt Mounting Pattern
The 4-bolt brake mounting pattern is fairly rare in a 12 x 2 inch assembly. We have some options though; for 6K axles we have # 23-105-09 for the left and # 23-106-09 for the right. The 4-bolt pattern on these assemblies is offset meaning the bottom 2 holes are closer together than the top 2 holes. If that is what you have then either set listed above would work. I have linked videos on each of these types of brakes for you.

  • Picking Out Brake Assemblies for Camper Trailer
I can help you find the right assemblies, but I do not know exactly which ones you have on your trailer. To pick out the correct brake assemblies for your trailer you need to know a few things. You will want to measure the inner diameter of your hub/drums and the depth of the drums to determine what brake assembly dimensions you need. For example the part # 23-468 is a 10 inch by 2-1/4 inch thick brake assembly. You also want to determine what the bolt pattern is of your assembly mounting...

  • Will P2 Brake Controller Apply Trailer Brakes when Going Down Steep Hills
The P2 brake controller, # 90885, is a proportional controller that will apply the trailer brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. So if you have your foot on the brake pedal, even a little, it will send voltage back to the trailer brakes. The controller uses an accelerometer to sense deceleration and will not apply the brakes just because the trailer and vehicle are pointed up or down a hill like what could happen on old pendulum style brake controllers.
