Bolted them on, wired trailer over from hydraulic brakes. this job took about 4 hours start to finish. 3 axle trailer. These brakes will hold back my tractor.

EXCELLENT...... START TO FINISH. Fantastic service, great prices, quality products. Here's a before and after picture. It only took 30 minutes and basic tools to make the replacement. So much better than trying to clean up the old rusty one. Thanks again, Bill Borland in Michigan

I ordered these brakes on Tuesday they arrived at my house (in southeast Texas) on Friday (free shipping). These brakes heavy duty and a breeze to install. I paid twice as much for brakes I had bought before, locally. Good job ETrailer!!!!

Quality product and super fast shipping

I bought 2 sets of 12x2 electric brake assembly for my car hauler. I was just going to replace the shoes but after remembering the difficaulty in doing drum brakes in the early days, I found it easier and less time consuming by just remove 5 bolts and connect two wires. This product came to my door with in only 3 days. Great looking product (no picture because i"m writing this after the install).
I have been back to etrailer several time for other items such as hitch shank, wheel center caps even grease caps. Great place to shop.

I am writing this very favorable review of my online shopping experience with etrailer. Recently I had to replace the brakes, hubs, wheels and tires on my travel trailer. Please keep in mind that I am a 65 year old man without a lot of experience with online shopping. Never-the-less, I decided to give it a try in hopes of saving some money. To my surprise, etrailer made the experience very easy and painless. Before I placed my order on line, I had a question about one of the items on my shopping list, so I placed a call to them. I spoke with a very lovely and patient Customer Service Representative by the name of Michelle S. She was very helpful in answering my questions and encouraged me to call her back directly when I was ready to place my order; and so I did. During the shipping process, she kept me informed through emails the status of my order and everything arrived on time and in great shape. I truly appreciate the personalized services I received doing business with etrailer. They truly removed all of the uncertainty and nervousness of shopping online.

Unfortunately, one of the 4 brakes came with the spring and adjuster shaft on the bottom of the box. I put them back on without too much trouble but etrailer should review the product packaging in order to protect the brakes from damage. The install needs shrink tubing style crimp connectors. Mine required sizes for 16 to 18 gage and one size up for joining 3 wires where one wire crosses over thru the axel from the left to the right side. Also there are two adjuster plugs per brake so a total of 8 plugs are required for 4 brakes. Once installed they worked great.

  • Converting Trailer from Surge Brakes to Electric Brakes
First you will need to remove the old hydraulic equipment. Remove the surge coupler or actuator, remove all the lines, and finally remove the brake assemblies. If you have 10 inch diameter hub and drums, you may need to replace those as well. If you have 12 inch hub and drums, you can re-use them so long as they are in good shape. You will install your new electric brake assemblies, like part # 23-105 and part # 23-106. The magnets have 2 wire leads, one for ground, one for power. It does...

  • How to Choose the Correct Replacement Hubs and Brakes for Keystone Montana Fifth Wheel
Thank you for the information you provided. Based on the sticker on the brakes I can tell you that the replacement brakes you need are the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Assembly - 12" - Right Hand # 23-106 and Left Hand # 23-105. The brakes are for 6,000 lb axles so based on that and the 8-219 you provided I was able to narrow down what hub you need, but there is still a bit more info to get the correct part - the bearings and wheel bolt pattern. For example, the Dexter Trailer Hub and...

  • How to Find Which Trailer Brake Assembly Goes on the Left or Right Side of a Trailer
The left side is the driver side, right side is passenger side. On a trailer brake assembly like # 23-105 the arm that the magnet is on points to the front of the trailer and the magnet always will be on the bottom. I have included a picture that shows what I mean. The matching right side assembly is # 23-106.

  • Recommended Electric Brake Assemblies and Hub Drums for a 26ft Gooseneck Trailer
If your brake assemblies mount on a plate using 5 bolts, you most likely would be looking for a 12 inch diameter brake assembly like part # AKEBRK-6R and # AKEBRK-6L, but you could verify this by measuring directly across the center of your drum or the brake assembly. To recommend the correct hub drum for your application, I would need to know your current hub bolt pattern, as well as the bearings it uses. In order to determine your hub drum bolt pattern, you would need to measure center...

  • Trailer Brakes Lock Up When Connected to Truck
There are a few things that can cause the brakes to lock up on a trailer. First, disconnect the trailer from the vehicle. Then use a circuit tester like # PTW2979 if needed to test the connector on the vehicle. Have someone sit in the truck and run through the various functions to make sure everything is working. If any of them are showing a constant 12 volts, and the matching pin on the trailer side goes to the brakes, that would be why the brakes lock up. This is especially an issue...

  • How to Fix a Trailer Leaning Heavily to One Side
The reason your trailer is heavily leaning to one side is because of the way it's loaded. From the picture, it appears that you have much more equipment on the right side than you do the left side. This uneven loading has caused the leaf spring to wear down quicker overtime further worsening the problem. Unfortunately, you really only have two options to fix the problem which would be to either reorganize how equipment is loaded on the trailer or replace the suspension components with...

  • Why Are Trailer Manufacturer's Installing Brake Assemblies Only On The Rear Axle
Hey Eddie, Typically they run the brakes to the first axle because it does carry more weight than the rear in most cases and because it's less cost/time consuming to go to the first axle. I can't say for certain why they would run the brakes to the rear axle but it's likely because in some way it's easier or cheaper to do for that manufacturer. I would just add brakes to the front axle as well for better braking power if it were my trailer. When you say the brakes slide do you mean...

We definitely have Dexter brake assemblies to fit a Dexter 5,200 lb axle like you have. • Best Way To Test Trailer Side 7-Way Without A 7-Way On Tow Vehicle
Hello Dylan. Without having a vehicle to connect to, the only way to properly test your trailers 7-way is to use a tester like the Tekonsha # 8010 or the Hopkins Tow Doctor # HM50928. These testers provide a power source and will allow you to test all of the functions easily by yourself. These testers are expensive though, so if it were me. I would go ahead and put that money towards installing a 7-way on the vehicle so you can test it that way. If you can let me know the year, make and...

  • Replacement for Dexter Electric Brake Kit 023-105-00
Hey Charlie, thanks for reaching out! For that exact brake assembly you'll need part # 23-105. The Kit # 23-105-106 you found has both the Left # 23-105 and the Right # 23-106 brake assemblies. Usually when you replace something on one side of the axle you want to do it on the other side as well just so everything is wearing down evenly, so I recommend going with the kit # 23-105-106 anyways.

  • Troubleshooting Electric Trailer Brakes Not Registering With the Brake Controller
I can help you troubleshoot your brake controller error. Sounds like a grounding issue to the brake magnet ground. I would make sure that the ground wire is secured tightly to a clean surface on the frame. If the wire is attached to the body or a surface with an undercoating or rust it can cause a ground problem. I recommend cleaning the area or finding a better grounding spot for the wire. Another option would be to run all the grounds to the front of the trailer where the main ground...

The only way your trailer brake controller pin will have constant 12V power is if the brake controller on your Dodge is broken, or if the wiring is damaged and the 12V power pin is bleeding over to the brake controller pin. • Should I Put Brakes on the Front or Back Axle of my Tandem Axle Trailer
Typically trailers will carry more of their weight on the front of the trailer, so you would want to put the brakes on the front axle as it will most likely carry more weight while braking. Also, when braking, weight will shift forward from the inertia of the stop, so that would put more weight on the front axle. • Can I Cut The Wire Going To My Brakes To Stop Brakes From Locking Up
Hello Bill, that is an interesting question. If one of your brake assemblies is getting constant 12v power and locking up, then yes, cutting the wire would release the magnet and stop the brake from engaging. If something else is causing the brake to lock up, then cutting the wire would not do anything. I would only recommend doing this if you are taking the trailer directly to a shop. Driving without brakes on one side could cause bad sway or uneven tire wear so you would want to get this...

Also inspect the wiring leading to the brake magnets and repair any pinched or damaged wires. You can also test the brake controller and the brake magnets. In the truck cab you will need to...

  • Why Would Brand New Trailer Brakes Feel Weak
Most brakes also require a (break-in) period. Dexter says to get up to about 20-30 mph and use the manual override several times. It is likely you need to do both of these even if they properly adjusted the brakes. Nearly every time we hear about someone with new brakes that are weak the issue is that they just aren't adjusted properly. Check...
