Question:
I am looking at buying a used car tow dolly. It does not have brakes. If I tow a light enough car behind my RV I wont need them. However, I am wondering if I want to put electric trailer brakes on it are trailer brakes universal from axle brand to axle brand.

Hey Jerry, in general yes trailer axle brakes are universal between brands of axles and brake components but there are a few oddball capacities like the 4k through 4.4k capacities but even then it's pretty easy to figure out what's needed. Tow Dollies generally require using the brake assembly brand of the tow dolly manufacturer so if you decide you want to add brakes it would be best to verify the brand of the dolly and go from there. You can let me know at that point or now and I can see what would make the most sense.
In meantime I attached a link to this page that has info on what's needed to add brakes to a trailer that has the same concept.
