How to Determine if Trailer 7-Way is Upside Down for Determining Pin Out
Updated 03/04/2020 | Published 03/03/2020 >
Question:
The explanation of what terminal controls which function in a seven pin plug by Michael H. is very helpful. i.e. one oclock hot lead, 3 oclock right turn/brake, etc. My problem is that I have a 2014 Silverado and GM has flipped the socket on the truck. Does that mean that the explanation given by Michael is flipped as well? Meaning one oclock is now 5, 3 oclock is now 9, 5 oclock is now 11, etc?

I attached a picture of a 7-way wiring diagram for you to check out to help show you where all of the pins of the connector are. If your 7-way is upside then yes the diagram would need to rotate 180 degrees. You can use the notch of the 7-way to determine if this the case. The square notch is normally on top of the connector so if yours is on the bottom then it is inverted.
