Features to know about

Stay Level and in Control Under Load: 1,000-lb Rear Suspension Support

When heavy gear or a trailer starts to push the rear end down, these helper springs pick up the slack. The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs add up to 1,000 lbs of rear support at 50-percent compression to help your factory suspension stay level. They absorb bumps and shocks so steering, braking, and headlight aim stay consistent even when the back end is carrying serious weight.

Smooth Out Every Mile: Progressive Load Control

These springs compress according to how much weight you’re hauling. With lighter loads, they engage softly for a smooth ride. Add more load and they can compress by as much as 80 percent to give firm support when you need it most. The progressive urethane design cushions bumps instead of jolting through them, keeping things comfortable whether the truck is empty or loaded.

Comparison image showing SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs installed on a rear axle, with one spring uncompressed and one compressed to illustrate load support and suspension travel.

Stay Steady in Crosswinds and Turns: Independent Spring Action

Each spring works on its own side of the vehicle, so an off-center load or sharp turn doesn’t throw you around. This independent action helps reduce body roll and sway through corners or in highway gusts. You feel more planted and in control even on uneven ground or winding roads.

Count on Tough, Maintenance-Free Construction

Built from durable microcellular urethane, these springs handle heat, cold, oil, salt, and UV exposure without breaking down. They compress vertically with minimal lateral expansion so they fit safely in tight spaces without rubbing nearby parts. There’s no air system to maintain—no tubing to run or pressure to check—just solid support that works every time you load up.

Install It Yourself Without Drilling

Adding suspension support doesn’t have to be complicated. These custom-fit springs bolt right in with a simple no-drill installation using basic tools. Two jounce-style springs are included so you can get your setup done and back on the road quickly with a leveled, confident ride.

Installation was super easy. Haven’t gotten to try them while towing but they will make contact much sooner than the stock bump stops

Looks great, Donald. Let me know how the ride is once you get to test them out, would love to hear your thoughts :)

Ford F-150
Worked great on my F-150 Raptor. I had trouble towing almost any tongue load because of the high travel/light load Raptor suspension. This cleared up the problem and barely affected the ride quality. There were 2 height options and I chose the full height which means it makes contact the majority of the time. Installation was about 30 minutes without using a lift.

In my 2019 Raptor, power isn't a problem with most towing, but rear end sag is a HUGE issue with the mid-long travel suspension and soft leafs. However, bolt these in (seriously, takes 15 minutes to swap them/factory bump stops) and rear end sag is virtually eliminated. In my application, I'm towing about a 5k# boat (25') or a double axle flatbed with a SXS. But with these on, no rear end sag, no sway when you hit a large bump at speed, etc. I HIGHLY recommend you look at these if you tow pretty regularly. I also looked at/installed some Timbren's, and ended up switching to these. Much better fit and finish, and I really can't see how you'd need more than 1k# of compression for tongue weight in a light application like this. Those ruin your ride, these are great!

The SumoSprings were very easy to install and took care of the little sag that I had when towing our camper trailer. When not towing you don't even know they are there. Very pleased!

After a year this product has been great. I use these on a 2010 Ford Raptor. The Raptor suspension is not really set up to tow any real type of loads but after installing these and in conjunction with a load leveler hitch, it does great!

by:
Super easy to install and perform as advertised. Highly recommend Sumo Springs and etrailer.
by:
They do a good job stiffening the suspension. They were fairly simple to install.

These helper springs have been fantastic. I did not use the spacers so ride has been the same without the trailer load and does not squat under the 800lb tongue load of my camper now and has made the ride safer

Delivery on time. Have not installed yet, but seems very simple and easy.

East install, here's a tip. Put the long bolt in before tightening frame bolt...

2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
I put these on a 2013 Jeep JK (not lifted) that tows a 3000 lb trailer in rough terrain; Total game changer.

These replaced the anemic factory stops (which had completely disintegrated) and make it impossible to 'bottom out' on the dips and holes that use to beat up the suspension. I got nearly all of my vertical travel back and the vehicle now sits almost level under high tongue load.

They go on pretty easy. I suggest sliding in one side, and then using a wooden dowel and hammer to pop the other side in the stock receiver cup.

Highly recommended. These are a MUST if you are towing a trailer (with a medium sized SUV) of any significant weight or if you just want to be able to bounce hard without bottoming out your suspension. I am likely going to get the front suspension version now as well.
Wish I knew these existed sooner.

2025 Promaster 2500 159” wheelbase. Backed the van on couple 2” X 6 “ easier sliding under. Sprayed PB Blaster on top of bumper spring, using a 16” Channel Lock, easy off with the old. At that time I jacked the rear end to allow clearance. One side at a time. Took longer for set up then the job. I used the long bolt with two spacers. Have not drove yet, though looking for great results.

Glad to hear the install wasn't too bad, Michael! Definitely let us know how the ride is once you take it out for a drive! What are you using your Van for? The tires look pretty beefy.

This only pertains to the order, shipping speed, and install as I have not put a heavy load on these sumo Springs yet but I feel like that's a foregone conclusion based off the reviews already. The ordering process, the shipping, and the installation was unbelievably easy. I kept rereading the instructions thinking this can't be right because it was so simple. I looked at the YouTube video and realized it is that simple! So happy with the ordering process, the quality of the initial product I opened, and how simple it was to put on the jeep.

That is the beauty of SumoSprings! Super easy to install and once they're on you can forget they're there! Are you planning on towing something with your Jeep that you want extra support for?

@ClaireH yes Ms Claire. I plan to put a truck camper on the Jeep (that weighs in the 500-1000 lbs range). My payload is 1700 lbs so I know a camper of the weight will be significant my truck. Already ordered a stiffer rear anti-sway bar as well.

@Justin That sounds like a good plan! These SumoSprings plus the sway bar should be more than enough to handle the weight of your truck bed camper.

Love them! The truck barely even squatted, had two dirt bikes, and a generator in the bed as well! It handles the bumps and sway great

It arrived pretty promptly about 30 minutes later I had him installed. It took me longer to find the proper Tools. Never had to remove the tires or wheels the only time I had to jack it up was to put the helper springs and screw them down very easily install

2000 Nissan Leaf
Great product! Bought these for my 2000 7.3 f250. Didn't want something that is constantly active like ras or hellwig since my leaf springs are new and rated for 4k pounds. Installed these in 1 hr super simple only hard part was the factory bump stop on driver side was a pain. Didn't install the puck they give due to height of truck and I knew more or less at what point I wanted them engaging. I haul cattle to shows/ auctions or between pastures with my 24ft big bend and these things actually provided a smoother ride in my truck loaded then unloaded.they do a great job with the added support and are better than an overload spring with handling sway and providing a smooth ride loaded. Just wish I could use the 3k pound rated ones on this truck and my dually but doesn't fit if you have a gooseneck sadly so will probably have to go with timbs on the drw. Over all great product can't speak to longevity but solid for the time being. And customer service with this company is excellent if you have a question or problem they're on top of it...hope they pay them as well as the reputation they're building for them.

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement for 2020 Ford F-150 with 1,500 Pound Trailer Tongue Weight
The 1,000 pound capacity SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-117-40 for 4 Wheel Drive and # SSR-116-40 for 2 Wheel Drive referenced in your question will offer a smoother empty ride in your 2020 Ford F-150 than a higher rated alternative spring. It is important though to keep in mind that any weight coming from behind the rear axle of your F-150 and from the trailer hitch itself should also be considered when choosing a suspension enhancement system, as this will be included to...

I can confirm that the # SSR-116-40 you were looking at are also a fit on 4wd versions of the F-150, including the F-150 Raptor, but there is a better solution for you. Instead of the # SSR-116-40 which are only rated for 1000-lbs of support, I recommend using the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle # SS52GR since they're rated for 1500-lbs of support. • Recommended SumoSprings for a 2015 Ford F-150 with 800 Lb Load
The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-116-47 is what I recommend for your 2015 Ford F-150. The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-116-40 would also work for you but you will be near the capacity of 1,000 lbs with your 800 lb setup which is why I recommend the set rated for 1,500 lbs. This will ensure that the springs offer you with the correct amount of support and comfort. I have attached a review video for you as well.

  • Choosing Correct SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs for a 2011 Ford F-150
Yes, the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-116-40 for 2WD or part # SSR-117-40 for 4WD are a great option for a 2011 Ford F-150. They offer a bolt-on fit and work well to reduce sag while towing or hauling. The 1,000 lbs of support they provide will be more than enough for your setup. Just make sure the tongue weight of the trailer and weight of cargo in the bed over the rear axles does not exceed this rating.
