What is the Hook Size Difference Between Blue Ox 15K Safety Cables and the 10K Safety Cables?

Question:

I currently use the Blue Ox 10,000 safety cables when I tow my GMC Yukon behind my 2023 Newmar Essex Spartan chassis motor home. However, the thicker baseplate for the safety chain holes of the towing hitch on the latest Spartan chassis means I am unable to install the hook end to the point where the safety latch snaps out. By ing the hook with the tip upwards then back towards the towed vehicle I assume gravity and the coiled cable tension will keep it in place ... it has been OK for the last couple of years. I notice Blue Ox also produce a 15,000 cable set BLU22UR. Does this set have a dimensionally larger hook end? If so, I would hope this might be sufficient to allow the safety clip to spring out, providing additional peace of mind.

Hello Roger,

Great question, and with the Blue Ox 15K Safety Cables # BLU22UR being so new I was not sure about the size difference. So I took a stroll out to the warehouse to compare the two. The cables that you already have, the Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables - 10,000 lbs - Qty 2 # BX88197 are about 5" from the very bottom to the top, and the thickest part of the hook is about 1 1/4". The 15K # BLU22UR are about 5 1/2" from the very bottom to the top, and the thickest part is about 1 1/2". I attached an image for you to reference.

Do you think they will work for your set-up?
