Flat Tow Setup for 2022 Jeep Gladiator Behind a Class A RV

Hi Ripu, to flat tow your 2022 Jeep Gladiator behind your 2021 Thor Windsport, you’ll need a base plate, tow bar, safety cables, wiring for lights, and a supplemental braking system.

A really solid setup starts with the etrailer Invisible Base Plate Kit part # e98948, there’s no bulky crossbar or brackets left hanging out up front, and the attachment tabs stay with the tow bar instead of sticking out from the bumper for a nice clean look. For the tow bar, etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar part # e34ZR is a great match and makes hookup much easier thanks to its self-aligning arms, so you don’t have to get the Jeep perfectly lined up behind the motorhome when disconnecting. I also like how there is a built in rise and drop which eliminates the need for a high low adapter.

You’ll also want safety cables like part # BX88197 and a wiring kit part # RM-15267 so your Jeep’s brake lights and turn signals work in sync with the motorhome. For braking, a portable system like the Blue Ox Patriot part # BLU37TR is a really popular choice and easy to move between vehicles if needed since it is portable. The downside to that is it sits in the floor board and has to be setup each time you flat tow. It also requires at 12 volt outlet in the Gladiator part # RM-9332. If you are looking for a more permanant install, let me know and I can recommend another part.

The Gladiator is actually one of the easier vehicles to set up for flat towing as long as it’s a 4WD model with a manual transfer case. To tow it properly, you’ll place the transfer case in neutral, not the transmission, and keep the steering unlocked with the ignition in accessory mode. There’s no need for a driveshaft disconnect, and most setups don’t require a battery disconnect, although some people choose to add a charge line part # RM-156-25 for longer trips to keep the battery trickle charged in the Jeep.

I mounted the invisible tow bar on our 2022 Wrangler two door Rubicon. The installation was fairly straightforward and easy. I left the factory plastic skid plate off for now instead of cutting it out per the directions. I am not doing any aggressive off roaring yet and will include a steel skid plate when I weld up my new bumper. Attaching and removing the HD tow bar is easy. The vehicle looks clean while not being towed. Good luck. David

@Wayne That’s great to hear, and really appreciate you sharing that. It’s always nice to hear from someone who’s had it installed and actually put some miles on it, especially over a couple years. Have you been doing more shorter trips with it or getting out on some longer hauls?
