When you’re loading up kayaks or a cargo box, you want bars that feel solid and hold steady. These Thule SquareBar Evo crossbars are built from galvanized steel and rated for 220 lbs. The steel construction gives them the strength to handle heavy gear without flexing, while the black polymer coating adds grip for your cargo and helps prevent corrosion over years of outdoor use.
If your roof has fixed points, this setup makes installation simple. The complete system includes 2 SquareBars, 4 Evo Fixpoint feet, and a custom fit kit that locks into place on those mounting points. Once it’s on, the rack sits secure and ready for the next trip—no adjustment or guesswork every time you load up.
Whether it’s kayaks in summer or skis in winter, these square bars work with a wide range of clamp-on carriers and boxes. The traditional square shape gives a solid mounting surface that fits securely with popular accessories across brands. That means you can bring what you already have or mix in new gear without needing adapters.
You can add Thule’s One-Key System locks (sold separately) to deter theft of the rack itself. It’s an easy upgrade that protects your setup when you’re parked at campgrounds, hotels, or trailheads overnight—peace of mind when your gear is sitting on the roof instead of inside the car.

The crossbars are great. I’ve used it many times for my kayak using it with Thule kayak carrier. To eliminate the whistling sound I ed some insulation foam in each end of the bars. Now it’s totally quiet.

The square bars are known to whistle compared to the aerodynamic cross bars. I recommend the Thule AirScreen XT part # TH22WV to divert the wind up and over the cross bars to eliminate some of the wind noise.

After having the rack on my car for about a year I can say the bars are still pretty noisy even with my modification. I know theyre square bars and by definition square bars are noisy but I frankly think Thules design of the feet that attach the bars to the roof is not particularly aerodynamic either and so the feet are contributing significantly to the wind noise, too. I bought square bars because I have some older roof attachments that were designed for square bars and I wanted to reuse them instead of having to buy all new ones for a different bar shape. The old attachments fit just fine on these bars so Ill save the money and live with the wind noise.
