Video of Econo Porch Trailer Step with Handrail and Landing - Triple - 7" Drop/Rise, 27-1/2" Tall
Videos are provided as a guide only. Refer to manufacturer installation instructions and specs for complete information.
Today we're going to review part number EHS-103-R. This is the Stromberg Carlson Econo-Porch Trailer Step with the handrail and the landing. This is the triple step design. This part model trailer step will provide the stability of a stationary step with an interchangeable handrail that you can use on either side, right or left side. This does come fully assembled and to put it together it's very simply you just unfold it and attach these braces. Basically there's two braces on each step so there's six here and then two back here-you just unbolt these and the braces will rotate out of the way. The whole unit will collapse, you'll remove the handrail and it's ready to go.
It comes shipped to you just like that-you'll put it up, raise it into position, attach the braces, attach the handrail and it's ready to go; very simple way to put it together. The size on this landing-the width is going to be 27 inches, the depth is 16 inches. Now on the steps themselves they're 27 inches, the depth on them is nine inches. Now the rise or drop is going to be seven inches. The seven inches give you a nice comfortable rise or drop for the entire family-makes it very easy to walk up and down. This part is made in the USA. Now the overall height where the landing is-is going to be 28 inches.
Weight capacity on this part is 350 pounds. It does come with a one year limited warranty and last thing I want to give you is some dimensions on these handrails and again as I mentioned they can be bolted-a bolt there and a bolt there on this side or on that side whichever way you prefer. The height in the front is about 41 inches; the height on the rear extends up to about 61 inches. The depth on the whole handrail overall is going to be right at about 34 inches. That should do it for the review on part number EHS-103-R the Stromberg Carlson Econo Porch Trailer Step with Handrail and Landing, the Triple Step Design.

This step unit is just what we needed for our entrance to our park model/destination trailer. It was easy to assemble and is very sturdy. The landing at the top is a great feature. It is now so much easier to go in and out - for the old lady and for our elderly dog. We looked at fiberglass, but the heavy, chunky designs were ugly. This open unit does not detract from the trailer. The price was also reasonable. Most pre-fab RV steps are a total rip-off price-wise. I highly recommend this product. 95115
Our step unit has been great as described above. After one year, my only negative is that the black paint should be more durable and also needs a clear coat all over it against the weather. Since these steps sit out all year in EVERY type of weather, here in Ohio, the paint needs more attention. It has gotten chalky and rubs off quite a bit, every time you have to clean off bird pings or mud, etc.We may have to coat the steps ourselves to preserve the paint for the years to come.Im not sure why other folks had so much trouble putting it together. We had very little trouble when we followed the directions. Our box arrived pretty beat up as well, but not as bad as some others. You may want to pad around the unit so the box doesnt collapse, put a second, thicker carton around the package and use a different carrier.

I am going to rate this item excellent. These steps are very sturdy. Not light however at 70 pounds but they do fold up for transporting. We bought the steps to make it easier for our 15 year old Border Collie to get in and out of the trailer. The steps and landing are covered with traction material and prevents her from slipping on the steps. The steps are well made and easy to assemble. I would buy these again; however......... My only complaint is the poor packaging provided by the manufacturer. It does not protect the contents during shipping. This is no fault of etrailer or UPS. The staples that hold the two sides of the box together really beat up the paint job in numerous spots and the bolts were strewn all over the inside of the box, likely adding to the paint damage. I have posted a message on Stromberg Carlson's website as they should be providing better protection in the packaging for their products especially heavy ones such as this. I will keep the steps as I really like them, but I was disappointed in seeing the damaged paint, even if it is only cosmetic. I have not heard back from the manufacturer. Etrailer had the steps in stock and the free UPS shipping was a bonus. I had them within three business days. I have bought from etrailer in the past and will do so in the future. 106585

Many prior reviews mentioned the poor packing of these steps and the parts that were missing as a result of the packing damage. Thanks to Kim and the added packing the steps arrived with no damage and all the parts were in the package and it arrived promptly. Kim was very knowledgeable, prompt, concerned and showed that she wanted the business. Being that we are in a very large and active campground I am sure many here will stop ro see the steps. I will definately recommend etrailer and Kim. I bought these steps as both me and my wife are in our 80s and find the steps on our Park Model trailer getting hard to handle. Now we can continue camping in comfort and with safety going up and down the stairs. Assembly was easy. The hadrest part was to open the steps from a flat position but once opened all went smoothly and quickly. 175522
Very good. Sure makes getting into and out of the trailer easy and safe especilly as we get on in years. Only thing I would like to see added is a rubber pad for under the steps to the ground. We are on a concrete pad and the steps have a way to move easily but not more that a 1/4 inch and easy to reposition.

These are wonderful steps! Very sturdy, extremely easy to assemble and very secure. I use them to access my pool deck and they are PERFECT, strong, slip proof (even in wet, bare feet) and step width and spacing is perfect for older fat person such as myself! They shipped quickly and box was slightly banged up, I would like to suggest that shippers use two fiberglass bonded tapes one wrapped horizontally and the other wrapper vertically to make handling during shipping slightly easier (gives someone something to grip when moving box). Thanks so much for such a great product! 91220
This product is FABULOUS! It is very stable, weather resistant, and secure. I cant imagine getting up to my pool deck any other way now! Greatengineering and very good structurally...I am a fatty and this is a wonderful staircase for me to use! Thank you! Keep up the good work!

So easy to setup, took just a few minutes. We have our steps sideways, so we will be adding yellow chain link at the top of the platform so no one takes a left turn off the steps. I understand all previous shipping comments. Shipping is difficult because the steps are heavy and the box is large and difficult to move around. Ours came with a few scrapes on the edge but nothing that can't be touched up. 229065
Stairs are still in good shape. We live in our trailer full time now and only move around a few times a year. The stairs fold easily for storage or if we take them with us.
by: Deb W.02/27/2017
We purchased the folding stairs over a year ago to use with our destination RV that we have permanently parked in NW Montana. As we did not want to continue to use the attached RV fold-out steps, we actually folded up the RV steps and attached these in their place. These were easy to assemble, take down, & store, so would work well for traveling, too. Having the four steps makes it easy to go up and down with your arms full. The steps are very sturdy, the handrail is useful, and they look very nice on our RV. We are in our second winter (some temperatures have hit 20 below zero with 2 feet of snow) and do not see any wear/tear, e.g., rust, etc. The skid-proof strips work well to give sure footing in the rain. We are able to use a non-salt snow melt on them to keep them from being slick when it freezes or after we've shoveled snow off without seeing any damage to them. One of our family members is over 300# and the steps support them very well. Our little mixed-breed Chihuahua/Terrier dog loves them. He has plenty of room to lie out on the top step to sun himself in nice weather & patrol his yard. (We put a pad down so he isn't lying on the skid-proof strip which is a little rough.) Thank you for such a quality product! 346341

I paid for item EHS-103-R which is 4 steps. I paid for the express and then I received a phone call from a rep telling that they could not deliver it to me on time as the website stated. UNLESS I paid EXTRA for shipping and I said, that's called EXTORTION... But I did agree to pay extra to have them delivered to me a few days sooner than the "EXPRESS". So 5days after they where to be at my door step I looked online to see where they where at and it said, crushed and returned to sender. But yet I wasn't notified by the shipping comping nor etrailer. When I called to ask where my product was at they said oh we are out of them and it will take an additional 10 days to get to you. The whole reason I ordered them in the first place was to use for a spa and pool show. So people couldn't walk up the steps and see into our products up close. So for the show we had to use a latter and it costed us literally thousands of dollars in sales. Not being able to show our product will ease. I know it may not have seem like a big deal to them and trust me they made me feel like that when we talked on the phone. But like I said, I know it costed me several deals not being able to show our products off safely. 407435

We spent 3 weeks in Desert hot springs Ca. and loved our steps. My husband has a bad knee and it was easier for him to get in and out and the dogs did so much better than using the regular trailer steps. It folded up enough (4 step model) to barely squeak unter the storage bin. The three step would have been a snap to store. It was packaged well, and my only complant was that there were no nuts and bolts etc for assembly and we had to go to the hardware store before being able to use it. Will get pics later 121399
Love our stairs. Husband has knee issues and they are so much better than the RV steps. Getting easier to set up each time we go.
by: Jim B09/11/2014
This has to be the safest way to enter and exit your trailer, very easy set up ( 10 minutes) the only improvement would be some kind of leveling feet just so it could be dialed in . 150658
This is still a Great Product. Im very pleased with the steps, After a year of use I think two improvements could be made: 1- 10 -12larger platform. 2- leveling feet. of course it would cost a little more but well worth it.
by: Gary Ford02/18/2017
In the time it takes to tighten 8 nuts & bolts, the steps were ready to use. I did add 2 lock washers to the bolts of the handrail to reduce the chance they might loosen. Very strong! Heavy duty! 343140

Just got the new steps today so have not gotten to test drive them in "real" camping operations but the steps are exactly what we were looking for. The steps on our new camper are adequate but pretty steep. The new stand-alone steps are a lot more user friendly and the landing at the top makes a great platform when going in and out. Thanks for such a durable and great product. 408294
by: karlyne04/17/2015
we had some problems getting it folded out but finally succeeded, hopefully when we get it to the campsite we will not have the same problem. as others have said the packaging was horrible and the FedEx driver pointed out the damages on the box. luckily the steps do not look damaged because of that, however the paint does look scuffed and scratched. will watch for rust in these areas. through no fault of the company we are somewaht concerned that we ordered to high of steps but again will wait until we are set up at a campsite to judge, keeping our fingers crossed. we are excited about having these steps to get in and out of the camper as we are both getting a little older and not as sure footed as we used to be. 185730

Great quality for the price. easy to set and very sturdy. If it were about three inch's wider it would be excellent. so it was as wide as the door on my 5th wheel. But it is a good product. 234091
Very Good

I called the company to inquire about the steps, the young man James that answered my call was more than helpful, I explained that I was a senior citizen and what I was looking for. Within minutes he had me all fixed up with what he figured I needed. What service, your company should be so proud to have such a good helpful person working for you. The nicest part of all this is the efficiency and speed of this sale. It arrived on my doorstep two days later. EXACTLY what I had been looking for. THANK YOU JAMES you are a sweetheart. I highly recommend this step it is fabulous.!!!!!!!!!! Your company deserves 10 stars!!!!!!and James at least 20!!! ........ 309973

We chose etrailer because they had the best selection out of any rv place we found. Their customer service sealed the deal. I highly recommend them for any rv product. Good prices and fast service. We ordered stairs for our fifth wheel toy hauler’s deck. We found exactly what we wanted from etrailer. No other rv place had this product. In fact, we even went to an rv show and no one was helpful in answering our questions about these stairs. The only one that even knew what we wanted was asking twice the price!! Great job etrailer. We will always come to you first for our rv needs. 469728

Pros: Easily assembled although some bolt holes were difficult to line up and bolt had to be screwed into holes. I assembled it by myself in less than 45 minutes with help from wife to unfold the stairs. The stairs look as pictured. Cons: No way to level the stairs on uneven concrete and keep them from being slightly unstable. Lock washers could be included but its to soon to tell if they are needed. Rivets, that were installed at the factory, make the unit hard to unfold as they are very tight. 139157

Great design, very easy to assemble. Product was exactly as it was advertised. Negative is that bolts and nuts arived loose, one nut missing, need to put them in a plastic bag that will not tear . Box was torn mainly because one corner is empty and it gets crushed in shipping. The hand rail holes were only drilled on one side of the pipe, so needed to drill holes. In the end a good product...just needs a little more attention in getting it to the customer. 161425

It will work for now. I wish the Width was about 3” wider and the height 4” higher, then it would be perfect for my 11 year old 36’ bighorn 5th wheel. I’ll have to figure out how to adjust. Also very easy to attach braces until the final one. Hole wouldn’t line up. I would suggest making holes bigger than the other on either the frame or brace. I needed to pry it in and use c clamp to hold in position. I wouldn’t buy the same one because of the size. 452645

The steps arrived ok. But the box was destroyed. Fasteners scattered around the UPS truck. A trip to Home Depot for more nuts and screws fixed that problem. It required a crow bar and a 2x4 to convince the assembly to unfold. But now all is well. the steps are too short for our 5th wheel. 66710
We sold them to our neighbor because they werent the right height for our5-th wheel, they were one step too short. She seems to like them though.

We've now made two orders, each of two sets of steps through etrailer, and they've always shipped/arrive quickly and as described. The steps themselves come in a big cardboard box that looks like it could be for a flat screen TV. Heavy box, of course, so your local UPS guy might honk at you to come out and help him, as mine does. Assembly is quick and minor, the steps practically unfold into shape straight out of the box. 303753

I ordered the 28 inch steps for my camper as my inlaws are now 84 and 88 years old and have a hard time negotiating the fold down steps that are attached to the camper. We found them to be very sturdy and easy for older or handicapped people to use. The 7 inch rise and top platform or the a perfect combination for getting up and down. I would highly recommend this product for anyone that needs a better step. 181984

Box was ripped and torn. One bolt loose in box - no nuts so a rating of " good" is based on the "looks" of the stairs as they lie unassembled in my garage. They look "good". Now I have to find a hardware store and spend more time and money to buy the bolts and nuts that should have come with the stairs. What a pain. You need to pay more attention to your reviews and to detail. Can't say I wasn't forewarned. 111756
We will be in touch later today about getting the hardware to you.

I was extremely pleased with the quality of materials in my portable steps. The instructions included were easy to understand and follow. Now my wife can easily access our trailer even with problem knees. 392925
by: Janice R.08/08/2017
One rivet on top step wasn't even touching and on second step rivet was to short. My husband is very handy and replaced them with quarter inch bolts. Other than that, the steps were easy to put together and I think we can tip them over and haul them in the back of our pickup. These steps are perfect for my wife and our 14 year old dog. Ordering was easy and the price was fair. 417635

We purchased this as a gift for my mother-in-law to make getting into her RV easier and safer when she visits. She has had several back surgeries in the past and needed something to help take stress off her back as she enters her home away from home. She told us these stairs are much easier for her to use and feel very sturdy. She also has a senior dog who loves them too! 483696

Very pleased with the Econo Porch Trailer Step w/handrail. It fit perfectly at the door into the travel trailer. It was very easy to set up. The box looked like it had come open as there was a lot of tape on one side and there were no bolt/nuts for the step braces. Assume the bolt/nuts were lost when box came apart. Definitely recommend this project. Thank you. 129772

Product is quite sturdy. I use it as a second stair case at my school for stage performances and it's gotten a lot of use over the past year. However, most use comes from the weight of children. We have tile flooring so the stair case slides a bit, but I use a carpet mat to keep that from being a problem. Collapsing requires some disassembly but not too difficult. 329553

It's just what we wanted. It is perfect for our RV, and our son assembled it easily. Glad for the skid proof on the steps, etc. I have only one suggestion--package the nuts and bolts. Some came out when we moved the box, and some were missing. The shipment arrived in good time, and we are very pleased with our service from etrailer.com. 85879

I have to thank Etrailer for making the process of buying stairs really easy! We looked for a long time online before we came across these. For such an inexpensive price, they work great, are very solid, and look good! Our son (who barely helps out) put these together in about 10 minutes. That's saying a lot coming from him! 227774

We love the steps. They provide much sturdier, safer access to our camper. We also have 3 dogs and it's much easier for them to get in and out of the camper too. I was worried about the railing being sturdy, but it's fantastic too. I am so happy we found these steps. They are a bit expensive, but SO worth it. 194281

We are using our stairs on a 5th wheel that is permanently parked. We love our new stairs with a platform area at the top, wide non-slip steps and a handrail. They are so much safer than the standard small pull-out steps that come standard on mobile trailers & 5th wheels. Thank you for such a GREAT product! 356253

We actually have two sets of these stairs. The first we bought for our 1974 Starcraft popup and the second pair for out 2015 Keystone self contained. Our family really enjoys them. It makes getting in and out so much easier. My brother also bought a set for his self contained after seeing our first set. 276530

I do have a couple of things. On the first step one of the rivets had no head one it. It took my friend and I about an hour to remove broken rivet and replace with bolt before step could be used. Also, hand rail had a couple of burrs on it. Quality control sure could be better. 477936

These steps are great and do a wonderful job but are heavy to carry and move around, You must put something under the sides to keep them from moving, Even as heavy as they are they will move after a given time. But over all they are a great product. Thank You Stromberg Carlson 346193

The stairs were delivered on time and the box was here when I got home from work. I put it together in the dark in about 15 minutes so I was very satisfied. The product description was accurate and I will be using this site again when I need more items for my RV. Thank you. 338092

Very pleased with these steps! They were surprisingly easy to put together, and great quality! My handicapped mother uses the steps and we are Very happy with the "grip tape" on the stairs that makes it where she won't fall when it's wet. We love that it doesn't get slippery. 468891

We have a fifth wheel so the stairs are too short. My husband raised them with a 6x6 and they work much better. The safety of a platform entering and exiting has made all the difference. The stairs had several deep paint scratches but the hard ware was all there. 248733

Purchased so my father(90) would be able to enter and exit his 5th wheel camper. Worked great for him to get in and out.Unfortunately he was unable to take it on any trips but I have used it 3 times makes entering and exiting much easier and it very stable 243669

We've been using our stairs to get in and out of our box trucks on industrial job sites for the past year and they've been holding up very well. A surprise benefit is that they also help to cut down on the amount of dirt tracked into the trucks. 311542

Totally happy with this purchase. Strong and stable. Makes it so easy to enter and exit our trailer! Would recommend for anyone to buy. It is a little too heavy to move around often. Must take out 10 bolts in order to fold steps and it is 70 #!! 175232

Very sturdy and fit perfectly against our Montana 5th wheel. So glad we purchased it. The shipping box was terrible and mostly destroyed, but stairs were fine. Assembly was a no brainer, had in place in 15 minutes. My wife and dog love it. 342465
by: Sherry11/24/2017
The steps arrived when promised. Setup directions could be better. Brace holes did not match up properly, we had to use a drill on them. Once they were set up we loved the steps. They are just what we wanted. 454594

Product was just what I wanted, and as advertised. Went together in about ten minutes. Packaging was horrible, very hard to handle by yourself. Not enough cardboard packing to secure the steps inside the box. 317172
by: A.V.11/11/2016
I like the steps. They were easy to unfold. But as others have experienced, the cardboard box in which they were packed was damaged All Parts were present. The loose items were in a seated plastic bag. 315858

These stairs are great and extra packing was provided so that they arrived safely. Some of the bolts were hard to align with the brackets but hopefully they will settle in with time and more use. 475600
